I don't think you will get an answer, /v/ doesn't play vidya
>>740940226yes, also this is niche, /v/ only plays popular games
>>740940025I don't know. it's only one of the highest rated and best looking metroidvanias ever
>>740940901metroidvania on which sense? I didn't like Hollow Knight
>>740941273Then you should like Ori, no tacked on soulslike gimmicks like in hollow knight
>>740940025They are pretty solid games. The 2nd one has better combat and fun bosses
>>740940025Ori leans more on the side of a platformer than other metroidvanias. The series is good games, yes. It's unlikely you will dislike them.
Everyone on Twitter got triggered by this post. Thoughts?
Yeah, sure? Not really the same game but the Ori games are really good platformers.
>>740941338does it feel right like Samus getting upgrades?>>740941419to which platformers do you relate this game?>>740941449I'm not on xitter, I just want to know if I should get the game or not, I'm not into metroidvanias, only 2D Metroid
>>740941273IMO Ori is much better than HK. The second Ori game takes some things from HK though, the "charms" for example are very similar to ones in HK in will of the wisps, and it focuses a bit more on combat than the original Ori does. Still, it's a great game I like the art style, atmosphere, etc. a lot more than both HK games.
>>740941532Yeah, the upgrades get strong very fast
>>740941613>>740941687I just need to know to which platformer do you guys relate Ori to check in
>>740940025I just payed 200 euro to get that metroid dread figurewtf am i doing with my life
>>740941850Rayman origins and legends
>>740940025Yeah if you have an open mind and don’t hate games by default.
>>740942107I loved both games, I think I'm buying it then
>>740942003You know, when you have a hobby and not another, it's okay to spend lots of money in it to please yourself. It's still less expensive than playing music or shooting films. A photo camera is hundreds if not a good thousand euros for what... taking photos of flowers in your backyard? Dude who pimps his car, same. People actually do that thing where they buy a car, drive it for a couple months, resell it for another, etc. sometimes losing or gaining money in the process but it's the same kind of absurd shit where money is just a plaything. And I didn't even mention people who regularly play at the casino, gambling addicts sometimes. It's okay bro.
>>740940025No, it's not a metroid like game. Unless you mean the Ori sequel.
>>740942724will of the wisps is the sequel
>>740940025>>740942313buyed and boughtered, let's hope I'll enjoy the games, thanks for the answers
>>740942548its mostly because i payed so much more since the figure is now out of production. i could have had it for half if i had bought it like 3 years ago but back then i wasn't into video figures
>>740940025dread sucks
yea ori is an actually good metroid like shadow complex or momodora, not a shit one like hollow knight.art design is also top notch in ori. theyre beautiful games to look at.
ori games are majorly underrated.wish there was a 3rd game.
>>740940025Key differences:Metroid Dread focuses more on combat, Ori in platforming.Metroid Dread focuses on being "badass", Ori focuses on "muh feels". Both are top tier games.I'd say Ori 2 > Metroid Dread > Ori 1 personally
Sex with balls
>>740944608Agreed, the Ori games are just beautiful. The art direction alone is reason to give them a try
>>740940025Eveeything except the ice levelThat genuinely sucked
>>740940025Ori is extremely good. Weirdly I think the second game is much better gameplay wise than the first. The story has a good ending, but I wish they took the ending to the second game and made it the ending to the first game.
ori and the blind forest is my favorite game of all time and i dont understand why ori fans in this place are so eternally butthurt over HKalso, the first ori is unironically better than the second game >the second game is full of cool additions but half of them are half-assed or half-ruinednamely the awesome combat completely held back by the utter lack of enemies that match the potential of ori's moveset, specially not the slow as shit bosses>it crutches constantly on boring solutions, or extremely powerful and yet boring unfun mechanicstwo examples: The heal is braindead overpowered, braindead easy, constantly being used, and takes away a slot for a fun skill. Instead of doing something obviously good such as having Catalyst as a baseline mechanic, they keep it as a shard and make bosses have respawning energy crystals. >second games' balance is beyond atrociouspiles of shards are simply worse versions of other shards, you are unreasonably tanky by lategame, a lot of moves that could have been amazing additions to the moveset are just too shit like certain crouch attacks, once again bosses & healing are a joke, yada yada>genuinely shit tier plot in comparisonThe ending is kino but everything leading up to it is a massive letdown. "dude its your destiny it was foretold lol">literally downgraded movement mechanicsIn ori 1, every single ability that launches you a lot horizontally will keep your momentum going if you release WASD, going at very high speed. While this is still true for returning abilities in ori 2, every single new ability in ori 2 has you falling like a rock. For example, if you just burrow out of some sand, or grapple towards some object at the far side of your screen, you will just fall straight down after a little bit of movement. Its just unsatisfying and genuinely downgrades the games' sense of speed. You could argue they downgraded the functionality of Light Burst but i dont blame them because it was completely retarded in OatBF.
>>740950574The first Ori is so linear it doesn't qualify as a metroidlike and is just a straight-up adventure game which is a bad thing
>>740941613I didn't really like the second game's plot. He sacrificed so much for a bunch of literallywhos.
>>740950740Ori 2 is completely linear in its progression too, dont be silly>entire first half of the game has completely linear progressionYou can technically go to the left side from the spawn but it ends up being a worthless dead end with scaled up enemiesYou can technically go to some later areas early, but you just get cockblocked beyond maybe some little pickups. Just like trying to access dungeons early in ori 2>entire second half of the game is technically just branching corridorsYou gotta get these wisps. They are in separate linear places that you only access from one path. They branch out into nowhere new. You technically get to choose your path, except not really, because trying to go to the desert early STILL cockblocks you anyway. Both games are as railroaded as you can get in progression. Unironically ori 1 is less linear than Ori 2: It has way better interconnection across areas because it was initially released with you being unable to teleport across spirit wells, despite the fact they were obviously placed for the sake of fast travel. Its really convenient there, and the Definitive Edition still has lots of good in that interconnection when it comes to gathering pickups in the lategame, or just convenience in cool exploring. Even the DLC area loops nicely to the moon grotto. In the first game the entire left side of the map (forlorn ruins/misty woods/sorrow pass) is a dead-end-that-loops simulator
are there more games like ori, with focus on platforming and movement, not on combat? planet of lana comes to mind, but i dont know any others that are worth the timeplanet of lana comes to mind
I'm tired of 2d metroidvanias. I want top down metroidvania, or are they called zeldalike
>>740951926you can go play mina the hollower lollmao
