Remember when Rainbox Six was good?

I remember when Ubisoft sent me a cease and desist for my Ravenshield mods right before Siege released and I told them to eat a big bag of kangaroo dicks.

I like the R6 aesthetic much better, and Rogue Spear was the one game of its type that I owned and loved, but I'm sorry, SWAT 3 did it better when it came to competent team members that can actually clear a room.

I tried pretty hard to make good plans in R6 but it was often
>I have to open the door and throw the flash because they stand in the middle and take too long and get shot and their throws suck

>*sometimes* they can cover a hallway or doorway effectively if you tell them to sit and cover it but seem to look the wrong way at random times

>sometimes you can get them to execute a decent coordinated rush if I open and flash and give the go code to charge in

meanwhile the terrorists will 360 no scope headshot you with a pistol from 100 feet away

Anyway that's just me whining. The old R6 games are still great. I just think SWAT 3 had a much better balance of enemy competence vs. team competence and I wish R6's AI was more like that.

Someone really needs to make a somewhat retro (just for the sake of visual clarity, ease of content creation and modding, not full blown retarded omg PS1 horror game indie graffics) level tactical shooter that is all gameplay. Something between Rogue Spear/Ghost Recon/SOCOM/Hidden & Dangerous, full mod support, easy mission creation (they don't have to be anything crazy, very basic missions would be fine). Almost like an ARMA-lite. I mean I like ARMA, a lot, even autistically modded arma where you need a manual just to figure out how to use a radio and shit, but sometimes it's too much.

I just want to get a mission briefing, select some dudes, select some gear, plan a mission, order some dudes around, shoot some dudes, blow some shit up, exfil, maybe do it with a mate.

The dynamic recon ops etc mods for ARMA basically do that, but it's still not the same and there's still a reason as to why I play a LOT of Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, Ravenshield, SWAT 3/4, Hidden & Dangerous 2 and occasionally bust out the old PS2 for some SOCOM or Xbox with Ghost Recon 2 (still sad this was never on PC, it was great before Ghost Recon went full Future Warrior retard mode and then ubislop open world mode).

I still have a disc copy of rogue spear somewhere in storage. I was never any good at it back in the day.

Loved it.
Seeing the gamespy logo when going to multiplayer was KINO. You just knew it was going to be a good time.

Loved it so much as a kid bought the gameboy color version foolishly thinking it would be similar

The soundtrack was sick tho
>>
>>740960046
That soundtrack is awesome and watching a few videos now and it doesn't look nearly as bad as I was expecting, almost like a vintage door kickers. Kinda shocked that it has mission planning and everything. Hilariously ambitious for a Game Boy game.
>>
>>740960448
It definitely was like those games. I was just too stupid of a kid to really get it as I was just looking for the shooter experience lol. I would do the whole route planning and just watch as all my dudes either lived or died

99% of the guns in MP were useless
>>
>>740961495
I think is literally the only sorta decent shooter I ever had on game boy and it was based on some terrible fucking movie, it would have probably scratched that itch though.

its been over 20 years since I last touched it but there was no reason to use anything except for the HK-PDW. The other weapons made you slower, or had smaller mags, or didn't fire fast enough or accurate enough(had to side strafe to even fire accurately in the first place) and also had smaller models which made them more difficult to spot when they were corner camping. abusing the F1 emote was also pretty common to see around walls, but it was still fun, especially the museum.
>>
>>740963779
It's no where near as good, but Door Kickers was a decent indie game that basically just planning phase and go, but as a simple top-down shooter. Played through it with a bro. Great fun you enjoy the planning phase of the old R6 games (R6 Vegas is dog shit that removed it and ruined the series)

Rainbow Six was never good.
SWAT was, and still is good. Especially SWAT 4.

So what's the verdict on Rainbow Six Black Ops 2.0?
https://www.moddb.com/mods/rainbow-six-black-ops-20
Is it the best way to play these games on modern systems?
>Rainbow Six (1998)
>Rainbow Six: Eagle Watch (1999)
>Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear (1999)
>Rainbow Six: Urban Operations (2000)
>Rainbow Six: Covert Ops Essentials (2000)
>Rainbow Six: Take Down – Missions in Korea (2001)
>Rainbow Six: Black Thorn (2001)
>>
>>740966093
>So what's the verdict on Rainbow Six Black Ops 2.0?
Kinda neat that it exists and I don't want to disparage it too much for the work that went into it (pretty sure there's a discord full of young spergs still updating and working on it to, so fucking more power to them, it's good to see the young cunts keeping the torch lit), but it's honestly unpolished bloat of variable quality for the most part, fine if you've played a million hours of all the games and just want a big sandbox of shit to fuck around with with an easy install, but it's not the best way to experience the original games. (A bit like Hereos Unleashed for Ghost Recon)

>Is it the best way to play these games on modern systems?
Absolutely not, especially with respect to Rainbow Six and Eagle Watch.

It doesn't actually include Rainbow Six or Eagle Watch proper, it includes very low quality "remakes" of the missions/levels from those games in the Rogue Spear engine with very low quality assets (lower than the original game), completely fucked lighting, missing briefings/videos, non-existent fog and other things in various levels etc, AI etc obviously wasn't made for the levels, and it has some questionable ports and implementations of some of the Rogue Spear addons as well.

It's probably an ok way to play Rogue Spear, but not ideal, but an absolutely awful way to play the original Rainbow Six + Expansion, and you should absolutely play them as they are very good.

If you're playing for the first time I really would suggest putting in the extra work, grab the origianl off of GOG

https://www.gog.com/en/game/tom_clancys_rainbow_six

Or wherever you like to download old games from, track down a proper iso of rogue spear and it's addons and jump through the community fix hoops etc

Links for Rogue Spear (all are working, just checked) and a guide to get it running.

>>740952116
Liked Rogue Spear, Black Arrow and Siege. Vegas was passable but felt like a low point even though it was popular.

People seem to want to hate on Siege a lot but the operator selecting and planning phase felt like a good MP representation of Rogue Spear to me. It lost its way as it went through the years but its still good.

I really wish there was some sort of co-op TC game where 16 players just to see half your squad taken out in botched door breaches against aggressive AI. I miss that feeling.

Thanks a lot for the effortpost and explaining what's wrong with the mod
I didn't even know the mod featured lower quality of the assests of the original games
Guess I'm going to play the original games for the first time then. So far, only the first game is on GOG

>>740967393
Huh, have had the series on the backburner for years and that's the first time I've come across this guide
I really appreciate for providing the link, anon. Especially since I'm gonna try playing the games on windows 10

Played Hidden and dangerous 2 earlier this year, it had that perfect Arma-lite feel you described with just enough sophistication in inventory and stuff. Just really wish they didn't do the Bulletproof helm that has to be shot off in order to land headshots thing. That and that the silenced weapons were a bit too inacurate in mid range, but other than that pretty much perfect for what it was.
