The way how I think the ending went canonically is that the Lone Wander is a sour ass, self guilt ridden fuck who lashes out at others and immediately started doing bad evil karma shit once he hit the surface. All the way to the end he was an absolute scourge on the wastes. Till he decided to do one good thing and save his parents dream. Maybe if the Lone Wanderer wasn't such a fucking evil asshole Fawkes would've come and shit down the fucking machine. Karma a bitch evil faggot.

That's how I thought the story would canonically go. And point lookout backs up evil karma Wanderer when he pictured Megaton getting nuked and how he's depressed because he killed his own mom as a baby.

how did he know that it wasn't his destiny to be there? seeing as it was a coincidence he met the player character and got wrapped up into a scenario where he was the only possible living being who could withstand the radiation to save the wasteland

>>740958661
To be completely fair on the developers (well just a bit) you technically didn't know there was a second code you had to input in the terminal, and that second code is exactly the bible verse numbers that (You) alone remember from your childhood. If anyone else went in, they would have scratched their heads.

The water has been irradiated for 200 years and yet somehow everyone is still alive and not constantly dying from radiation poisoning/ghoulified

Everyone immediately wants to murder you after your dad leaves even though there is no evidence you had anything to do with it and these are all people who grew up with you

James started Project Purity before, then abandoned it when you were born and his wife died to raise you in Vault 101. So what were the Enclave doing for 18 years, did they just not care about the facility?

Why did they suddenly want to seize it the moment you and James got involved, they literally never met you before, how do they even know you made it operational again?

Somehow Little Lamplight maintains its population even though they're all children, it's also right next to Vault 87, which has armed Supermutants and they are only separated by a small fence. The devs were so proud of this they made it obligatory that you pass through it (you need to go through Little Lamplight to complete the main quest and enter Vault 87)

Colonel Autumn entering Vault 87 makes no sense because the main entrance to the Vault is completely inaccessible even if you have God mode on and the BoS, with their technology and power armor can't access it

Even if you have power armor or a mask on, Autumn's flashbang always incapacitates you

The Enclave somehow knew you went to Vault 87 even though there is no way they could have known that, you learn about Vault 87 from accessing an old computer at the BoS base when looking for a GECK

For some reason, you need a GECK for a water purifier, even though a GECK is used for terraforming/literally building new cities

When you enter Vault 87 Fawkes offers to get the GECK, saying he is immune to radiation. Even though this is a Chekhov's Gun, in the ending you can't have Fawkes enter the irradiated chamber. This was patched, but the game still calls you a coward for literally paying attention to the story
>>
>>740967753
Autumn's motivation makes no sense, he wants people to flock to the Enclave, yet there are no Enclave settlements or outreach/recruitment programs, he doesn't offer to pay James or help him with his project by providing Enclave scientists, he acts cartoonishly evil for no reason and just executes a random scientist because the game needed to tell us the Enclave is evil even though that is counterintuitive to his own plan

The encounter with Eden is a rehash of the Master only worse, the Master needed evidence that his life's work won't work (and even then, he denies it at first). Eden blows himself up because you call him evil (that's literally it) or because he makes a logical fallacy

The Supermutants are only green bandits and the fact that they are right next to a settlement of children delegitimizes their threat

When you first leave the Vault to look for James you ask for a "middle aged guy" instead of someone wearing a Pip Boy, which is actually uniquely identifiable

James leaves the Vault, goes to Dr. Li to ask her to restart Project Purity, she refuses. So he goes to Jefferson Memorial, leaves some notes and then goes to Vault 112 to see Dr. Braun. You know about this because you have to find his notes in Jefferson Memorial the first time.

But it isn't clear how James managed to get past all the Supermutants, or why he even bothered to return at all if there were so many of them. He could have just gone straight to Vault 112 from Dr. Li since he knew about Dr. Braun from looking him up in Vault 101, but decided to brave the memorial to leave behind notes of what he already knew

After James is rescued from Braun, you return to Jefferson Memorial with him and suddenly it's covered with supermutants again, out of nowhere, even if you cleared them the first time. Then, James asks you to kill all the supermutants for him, instead of asking the BoS or someone else
>>
>>740958661
holy shit the incredible hulk! i didn't know you could talk, hey can you go in the gas chamber instead of me? my dad has killer farts and i reckon you'd survive it
>>
>>740967854
You will never be validated as a writer Emil. Stop trying.
>>
>>740967753
In Fallout 2 Myron is supposed to have invented Jet.
In the same game one of the NPCs mentions being addicted to Jet.

Writing has never been Fallouts strong suit. Bethesda is just staying true to the franchise.
>>
>>740967821
Autumn injecting himself with that mystery chemical after James' sacrifice makes no sense, the shock from the explosion was devastating enough to take out Enclave in power armor, Autumn was also unconscious in an irradiated room for who knows how long, this was clearly plot armor

Autumn captures you to get a code for Jefferson Memorial, but ultimately it doesn't really matter because the Enclave can apparently figure out the code themselves anyways. The reason why the Brotherhood of Steel invades, even if you don't give the Enclave the code is because Sarah Lyons thinks "they will figure out the code eventually" so it is suddenly urgent to attack them now. Again, what were the Enclave doing for 18 years when James was away? Surely they could've cracked the code within that timeframe if they bothered to look for the purifier earlier?

This means the entire conflict is literally over whose hands pressed the on button for the water purifier, it isn't even about Eden threatening to poison the water supply with FEV because Autumn was against that plan

If Eden just wanted to poison the water supply with FEV he doesn't need a water purifier to do that. Presumably the water purifier sits between the Potomac River and the reservoir, Eden could just poison the water downstream of the purifier, after the water is already purified. So he doesn't even need the purifier to carry out his own plan, nor does he need you

Eden, for some reason, offers you the modified FEV even though there is literally no reason for you to accept his offer since that would harm you too
>>
>>740967897
i like that i dont actually know about any of the bgs staff, as far as i know todd makes the game and occasionally linda carter shows up to voice the cool chicks because she was wonder woman once and also todds former bosses wife

>>740958661
Insert the modified fev before entering the chamber while flipping him the bird.
>>
>>740968114

Nigga the enclave is exclusively there to be the punching bag in Fallout. Its the devs way of attacking American pride/nationalism.
>>
>>740958661

>>
>>740968183
As opposed to?
If you try to appeal to a very specific niche your margin for error is microscopic.

Take the case of an rpg codex veteran who quit his job to show the big boys how to make proper codexian rpgs.
He hit his mark. His game made thousands.
He is the purest failure in the entire industry.
>>
>>740968389
If it is they Starship Troopersed the fuck out of them. The coolest faction in game by far.
>>
>>740968281
There's no hard time limit of X number of years, autist. It's just that when a developer does something stupid, admits their mistake, and actually fixes it, it's healthier to take the win and move on than to never let go and still be obsessing about something that isn't even a problem anymore 20 years later
>>
>>740968686
Thats because the devs are retarded libcucks that actually believe restoring America, defending its values/citizens, getting rid of any/all mutants(foreigners) is a bad thing.
>>
>>740968389
Their motivation doesn't make any sense. In Fallout 2 they were clearly evil but they also had a clear goal.

In 3, Eden is clearly evil, but Autumn wants the Enclave to have good PR, because he wants people to flock to the Enclave. But if he wants the Enclave to have good PR why is he murdering random scientists in front of everyone. Why is he doing literally nothing to gain the good PR he wants. It's because the writers realized "oh shit, we didn't actually establish the Enclave are evil, we gotta make Autumn do something evil." And they also needed an excuse for why Eden gives you the modified FEV and not Autumn
>>
>>740964546
Kek, game?
>>
>>740968849
How is it obsession to not like something, and have the same opinion later in life? Which of you is the real autist in this situation? The one who has an opinion, or the one sperging over the opinion?

>including Bethesda
Why did they write it like that then? The fact remains, Emil had four (4) years to come up with a main quest for their game, characters, themes etc. and he decided on Sacrifice. That's why the quote your mom likes is so important, that's why Liam Neeson sacrifices himself for you, that's why you're meant to sacrifice yourelf for the Wasteland. That's fine on paper as a thematic throughline... BUT they then didn't plan for the existence of followers. Emil said as much, that the story wasn't written with followers in mind. That's an utter failure for a game which in its need to try and imitate classic Fallout, decided to create unique followers with names, faces and personalities coming off of Oblivion's generic nameless 'Dark Brotherhood Assassin'-tier companions.
Point being, they should've known players would've traveled the world with companions. *They* chose to spawn Fawkes right outside Raven Rock, five minutes before the game ends. *They* chose to have Fawkes have the Karma combination that'd result in 90% of players being able to recuit him. *They* chose to make Fawkes unfathomably OP with his laser minigun, making him statistically the single best companion to run around with. They put themselves in this mess. And guess what? If they really didn't want you to reach the final room with a follower... how about forcing that on to the player? Running a script that dismisses your followers? Having a Brotherhood NPC tell you only authorized personnel like you and Lyons can participate in the fight? Or even easier (no need for lategame VA), script a short scene where some rubble falls down and separates you from your follower? You know, actually giving you no choice outside of "save Wasteland at the cost of your life" or "be an asshole and abandon everyone"?

Utterly baffling. Selling a solution seven months later for $10 (800 Microsoft points) doesn't magically make it not an issue worth remembering and pointing out.
