The remaster has native dual analog, better textures and graphics, and it's pretty interesting given that it never released officially.

The XBLA version swaps to the original anytime with a button (RB).

Basically Halo:CEA style.
>>
What are the chances they do this with the XBLA version of Perfect Dark 64 that was on the 360?
>>
Release notes explain jack shit about what files you need. Do I just need the entire contents of the XBLA game in the file structure it's already in?
>>
>>740973718
As a matter of fact there's a PC port already for PD: https://github.com/perfect-dark-pc-port/perfect_dark

If somehow the textures and models could be replaced with the updated ones that'd do it.

I fired up the XB1 version over Xbox Cloud Gaming (because I'm too lazy to go launch it on my Xbox) to compare and, honestly, it's about the same experience-wise. In fact I think it did the N64 textures better than this one does (though the enhanced textures certainly put everything else to shame). This port's N64 mode is very hard to see anything in.

Default button configuration is also basically identical.

Somehow I made it to Facility on that version the last time I played it.

It's like 95-99% complete. MicroSlop ran into rights issues with Nintendo on releasing it and Nintendo had a big melty about an "HD" port when they didn't own Rare, so they nixed it.

The leak can run on retail 360's, IIRC.

Alright, I think I found the internal resolution thing. Press F4 to bring up the menu and in the GPU section scroll down to resolution scale. By default it's set to 1 which means it's the native resolution. You can also set 16x anisotropic. All is saved in the ge.toml file.

>I'm saying it's just some lazily slapped together ai shit using ReXGlue, which just uses Xenia for it's renderer.
Which would explain why it doesn't work with certain AMD GPUS. The issue on Xenia could be solved by forcing the emulator to use Vulkan instead of DX12, but you can't do that with this project (at least as far as I can figure out) because it was lazily slapped together

It's nearing 85% decompiled. At the rate it's being decompiled lately it should be fully decompiled in a few months. Of course, then a port has to be made from the decompiled code and who knows how long that could take. IIRC the Perfect Dark PC port took half a year after that game was fully decompiled. I'm hoping GE will be faster because it's a less complicated game and because there's a lot more enthusiasm for these decomp/recomp projects lately

What a shame that Free Radical didn't get to do another Bond game, they were trying to do a remake of Goldeneye before the studio got shut down from lack of funding. Still, imagine them doing something like Thunderball.

yeah it's AI, there's 4 commits on the repo and the only one that added code is from claude, other 3 are the guy adding a readme and a donation link
but yeah no different to running in xenia at this point, the 5 month old xenia rexglue is based around at least

If you look on the right hand side, there's a green icon under "Releases".

The Perfect Dark decompilation is good too. You just need a copy of the N64 rom. It has high res settings and AA and stuff and runs at 60fps and kb+m works really well. I played through the whole thing.

If you aren't already very familiar with the feel of Goldeneye I would avoid KB+M. I struggle to imagine how anyone would have any fun playing it as a normal FPS. The game originates as a lightgun Virtua Cop type of shooting gallery game, but they added movement. A lot of the cool feeling in Goldeneye is still the gun-game thing where the screen is relatively still and you move the aim point around that screen blasting things that you see. As opposed to an FPS where the bullets always go to the center of the view. If you play with KB+M and do everything with center screen hipfire you're just gonna play a mediocre FPS with extremely dumb slow motion guards who are designed to allow you time to slide your cursor around
>>
>>740991816
Retard.
>>
>>740996345
(like, playing it with 1.2 scheme and the analog stick and holding left shoulder to aim often, already feels like this >>740991954
if you're good)
>>
>>740990745
Just emulate and set the controls to control like modern console fps then.

I too can vouch for that port, it's magnificent. I wish they'd hurry up with the HD texture pack mod, it's been close to release for a while now. I'd also recommend Jonaeru's all-in-one mod for the multiplayer, it adds a shitload of maps, most of which are singleplayer maps from Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, just adapted for use in multiplayer

just keep moving your mouse around, it'll work eventurally
>>
Jesus the mouse sensitivity is rough, cranking it to 10 didn't really do much.. Probably better on a controller I imagine?

I finished playing the Perfect Dark decomp/port a while back, so I guess this is next up for me.

mouse compatible?
>>
>>740998045
The PD recomp is much better than this one, which is really just an emulator with a glorified frontend. Might be best just waiting for the other one to finally finish.
>>
>>740997747
No, that's a whole other project that also isn't finished
>>
>>740991402
Cool thanks. I should probably try out Perfect Dark for the time being then

Wow thanks for putting me onto Perfect Dark. It's really cool. I've never played it before. Love the story and setting. Level designs are cool. You can push furniture and things around! Love the music, too.

You're welcome anon, I absolutely love that game. Make sure to check out the multiplayer too, even without other players it's still worth your time.

>>
>>741001819
weird, xenia had m+kb working since like the same week the game leaked

>>
Not working for me on linux, intro crashes if I let the scope sequence play out, and it crashes after the first 2 chords of dam intro song. The 360 was amd too was it not?
>>
>>741002578
>The 360 was amd too was it not?
It's not really comparable, the reason it crashes is because of the Xenia emulator (that this "port" lazily uses as a renderer. see:>>740981774) and how AMD GPUs don't like the way it utilizes d3d12. The fix on Xenia is to force it to use vulkan, but this port doesn't let you change the renderer, so you can't fix it
>>
>>741002870
Makes sense, I was wondering if it was soon as it tried to render anything in 3d, or textured and 3d maybe, as the rare logo loads.

been playing Golden Eye and Perfect Dark for the first time recently (only played MP mode as a kid)
and it's been kicking my ass, even though I'm using the mouse injector mod
like Aztec was so tough to beat I didn't even bother replaying the whole game in hard mode to get Temple, and I'm halfway through PD and I've had to restart some levels many times
that game reminds me a bit of Deus Ex, but even DE wasn't as tough as those two
>>
>>741006260
Click heads.
>>
>>741006307
it's not just that, even some of the objectives are so obtuse it's easy to fail them and having to restart the whole level because you couldn't figure out what to do and some npc threw a grenade at the computer you were supposed to use
>>
>>741006461
I do admit it feels great when you've finally memorized the whole level and just go through it like a breeze, immediatly unlocking the cheat
>>
I can't get the community patch to apply, no matter what I do. I've updated defaultCE.xex to default, and no matter what I can't get the keyboard and mouse to recognize as inputs.
>>
>>741006461
I played both for the first time recently, and the only truly difficult time I had was getting par times on some maps for the cheat codes. The levels are all pretty short, so you don't lose much time restarting them due to a failed objective. You just have to be aware of what can go wrong and do your best to mitigate that.
>>
>>741002870
I downloaded xenia from the aur and pointed it at the files I downloaded for this crappy port and its all working now.

I find that a big part of both games is learning the enemy animations, which animations mean they're temporarily hurt but they'll go back to blasting and which animations mean they're dead and are no longer a threat (in GE they only drop their gun when they die, easy tell). Hell, they even have different shot accuracy based on which shooting animation they roll (marching towards you guns blazing will kill you quick in PD for example)

>>741006461
Yeah true. Sometimes they can be a little unfair too. The good thing is, in PD sometimes you're able to find alternate ways to pass objectives. The game is so clever that you can 'un-fail' some mission objectives if you think of a different way to accomplish them
>>
>>740991954
This is horrifying
>>
Has anyone gotten keyboard and mouse to actually work? When I open up the keybind seetings with F4 it shows my keyboard as the input type but nothing works. I can't move the cursor and none of the keys respond in the main menu. Help
>>
how long will it take me to set this up so i can play it on pc with mouse and keyboard

i dont wanna spend any more than 10 minutes
>>
>>741006790
yeah I love the animations, especially how they seek cover, jump on the side, roll and do that sort of "stagger" to mix things up, enemy AI is great especially for its age
concerning the objectives I like that you can often approach them how you want with how open some maps are, didn't realize you could unfail some of them
I'm loving those games, but I'm suprised at how difficult they can be sometimes and wonder how you were supposed to beat them back then only using the shitty N64 controller
the reason I'm only playing them now is because I found the mouse injector mod, gave up after 5min last time I tried with a controller
thank god for emulation, even found the Golden Eye X mod so I'll keep that in mind for a potential future playthrough (wanted to go vanilla for my first time)
>>
>>741006260

>>
>>740974914
>What was wrong with that?
Bad framerate, same N64 smeared textures, same poor sound design, no multiplayer (The XBLA version was going to have multiplayer) unless you were on the switch, and the switch version ran the worse out of all of them because it's just emulated.
>>
>>740973016
no but there is a custom emulator with 60fps and kb/m support. next best thing
https://github.com/Graslu/1964GEPD
>>
>>740991816
>i just want to download the game
you could wait a few weeks/months. someone on rgt might upload it in the repo. I got twillight princess and link's awakening win versions there. if you get stuck while recompiling it yourself, just ask gemini for help. I'm installing fucking clang right now.
>>
>>740972250
that's great and all, but they never seem to develop recomps in a manner that runs on DirectX 11 and Windows 7, and that's dumb

Ship of Harkinian understood the assignment, their ports run on everything.
>>
>>740972526
I think basically everything was finished besides Aztec and Egyptian. You can complete the entire main game.
