As nice as BBI was, I always felt as an expansion to the game it kinda sucked that it was just a big dungeon because a huge part of the fun of DD is exploring the world

For the past 5 years, Capcom has not delivered a single disappointment. It's been nothing but hit after hit after hit. DD2 was and is an amazing game, it just didn't have enough content. The foundation is as good as it gets. When it drops, concurrent will soar to 300k, no doubt. One of the biggest releases of this year for sure.

Playing through the entire game on Vanilla will leave a bas taste in your mouth. It will only get worse the further you play.

This is the only game I'd ever recomend mods on a first play though, but DD2 really needs them.

I love the first game and almost love the 2nd game just as much, its better in many ways but definitely lacking in some respects but the DLC may fix those issues

We got actual improvements in 2

>Classes feel more unique
>weapon upgrade paths
>larger SEAMLESS world
>Pawn abilities help you explore otherwise unreachable places
>One of the best character creators in a game

Genuine problems the game does have are
>Game becomes easier faster than the first game although starts off harder
>Lack of repeatable endgame (unmoored world is cool but no everfall equivalent is disappointing)
>Trickster disappointing (the complete almost entire lack of being able to damage enemies by normal means just went too far)
>Lack of layered clothing, its not the worst thing ever but its obviously a step back
>Pawn AI is worse and does not learn from past experiences in battle (does this change once they have pawn badges? in which case those are poorly implemented as you'll only have 1 or 2 pawn badges by the end of the game)
>Slower/easier large monsters
>4 skill slots instead of 6 (granted we got core skills but we could have had 6 from the get go if they didn't waste buttons on likely unused item shortcuts)

Just about everything else people complain about are things that are present in the first game like story or enemy variety, the game was made for fans of the first game, its a great safe sequel but was really lacking the dlc, depending on how many issues it addresses could easily make the game superior to the first.

DD2 combat have more sluggish animations and input is less responsive compared to first one, because of that hitting and killing things gives less satisfaction. I'll not mention monster climbing where there is nothing worth climbing in dd2 (except Talos and Golems). Taking away throwing small items like bottles, throwblasts... This is not improvement for me. Game physics and ragdolls got better thats for sure.

Watergod alter is cave with water, quarry is cave, catacombs is practically a cave + tomb (there are tombs in dd2 just smaller).
DD2 has a bunch of generic caves, some more unique than others, it has mines, it has the grotto, it has tombs in battahl, seafloor shrine, the dragon tower in the south west, it has that one garden like dungeon in the elf area, the swamp area (i wish this area was much larger desu), the large bandit hideout in battahl part of that thief kids questline, that one fortress near the checkpoint rest town and many more.
There are a lot more unique locations than people remember and with the introduction of 12 more dungeons with this DLC its only going to get better but the lack of everfall is a big shame and I hope atleast the post game unique dragons are made easily repeatable

My biggest issue with DD2 is how bad the general movement feels, both in and outside of combat.

Vocational wishlist:
Fighter: abyssal anguish like weapon buff
Warrior: tomahawk style weapon throw skill
Archer: well.. hailstorm volley is returning, maybe a specialty arrow that induces Torpor or exhaustion.
Mage: bring back High Grapnel, the best thing about the class.
Mystic Spearhand: great magic canon *expy skill
, or a ff Dragoon job like super jump skill with AoE impact
Sorcerer: bring back Gicel, one of the most iconic spells... bring back High Miasma ( was more optimal than Maelstrom in some scenario's, such as vs Grigori or BBI dark bishop )
Magic Archer: biggest weakness is zero evasive options. give MA some kinda fancy elegant elf like evasive move with slight magical floatiness to it, maybe doing a perfect dodge charges your next skill faster.

archer's core moveset is actually pretty fun now, you launch off enemies with kicks and can do sliding/rolling arrow shots. its actual skills boil down to mostly "fire the arrow" sadly
warrior is also quite fun, they have the barge as a quick stun and you can time their light attack to swing over and over. i use both just for their basic skillsets as warfarer

honestly it's either trickster or magic archer, neither has any close quarter options and their core skills aren't very fun either (though trickster is getting the mage float in a patch at least)

Slow turns on ground movement and waiting through slow animations, doing extra steps to do light attacks (unsheathe -> light attack instead of instant light attack). Nta but there was multiple trailers for DD2. They didn't actually show everything in the very first one. Both Gamescom and TGS happen before DD2DA so it's possible that there will be another trailer before it releases. It's also possible that they might have learned from last time and will try and keep more things hidden. I have my expectations in check however, I'm not expecting a new vocation because they'd likely want to market that but it's still very possible that there's a few things that haven't been shown yet.

I just want well-designed, large dungeons with thoughtfully placed rewards, encounters, traps, and all that. I never understood the appeal of roguelikes and this obsession with needing to do countless runs of a dungeon. Not keeping your rewards makes finding them feel meaningless in the first place. I didn't hate BBI, I actually want more dungeons in DD and the lack of them in 2 was one of my biggest issues. I liked BBI for the fact that it was a cool atmospheric dungeon with more threatening enemies and such, not for the artifact purifying. I really hope that the EX skills are guaranteed to be on certain weapons and that ideally, they're permanently learnable in some way. Either that or maybe you can move them around onto different weapons with forging or something.

A brother after my own heart. I always wanted a randomly generated dungeon for 2. BBI was very good and its carefully curated design gave it its unique atmosphere, but it got dull after two or three runs. It'd be really damn hard to make sure randomized layouts still looked good and had proper decorative clutter and shit, but I think it'd be good for the game in the long run.
And being able to permanently learn upgraded skills would be incredible. Don't lock it to having to equip certain gear. As long as we can toggle the upgrade on and off.

Just remove the armour restrictions, let people have their pawn be a fighter wearing trickster armour with parts from the thief range. Theres nice stuff its just so restrictive for no reason. The armours are lighter because ligh weight allows faster regen of stamina for using skills, thats it, why shouldnt a warrior be able to wear this stuff, or a mage wear plate if they just want to have more defense at the cost of regen speed.

I believe I didn't. What I have is a simple state-machine for the base enemy AI, and then every enemy overrides the state methods for their custom behaviors. I recommend looking into boids for the navigation, so enemies move kinda like a unit surrounding the player instead of beelining towards him. webmrel is a good example of how boids can make for some cool behaviors without having to script them: all the goblins are being told to do there is "go to player"
