>20 years of stock market gains wiped out in seven months

How good does the next 3D Mario have to be for Nintendo to bounce back, bros? Not sure I can take much more of this.
>>
>>740986207
all they need to do is make the switch 3, give it much worse hardware than the current console offerings and PCs, price it 3x more than it's value, and give it a dogshit lineup like Mario Kart World, Donkey Dong Bobanza, and a wheelchair basketball game. This should sell well I think.

I think it's really interesting the stock market views Nintendo worse now than 5 years ago, even if slightly. They had a massive boom due to the switch 2, but it's mostly died out.
>>
>>740986207
It's not anything Nintendo can do. Even if the AI bubble burst AND the war with Iran ended today component prices would continue to increase as the fallout from those events would take a while to clear.
>>
>>740986207
Tendies will literally buy cardboard
They have nothing to fear
>>
>>740986620
No they didn't. If it sold well, it would've gotten more SKU's after that first batch of 80 dollar cardboard.
>>
>>740986207

Being a slave to a stock price is a pure Amerigolem experience btw. In 5000 years scientists will think that Mutts worshipped Gods called NASDAQ and Dow Jones.
>>
>>740986207
Sadly all questions of how they can bounce back are irrelevant. Nintendo leadership has allowed their Japanese izzat to take control of their decisions. They're gonna keep refusing to change tactics, they're gonna insist that the tactics that worked in 2020 work in 2026 until finally reality forces them to change. It's the same cycle they've been stuck in since at least the GameCube. The biggest concern right now is that they're a multimedia company. No telling how that might affect things. It could be that they become apathetic to the game market and choose to focus on their cash cow movies.
>>
>>740986207
There's so many things working against Nintendo, not to mention their own behavior, and consoles general, it's not going to be pretty for a good long while. Whether people want to admit it or not the console model is in trouble and could well die in the next decade.

oof that's a tough chart, but the drawdown does make sense. what catalyst could reasonably be on the horizon for nintendo that isn't already priced in?
they blew their load and pulled demand forward by opting to brand switch 2 as a full next gen successor console, when they really could have called it "switch pro." they seem explicitly uninterested in growing their userbase or reaching down the price ladder to bring in lower income players, instead just catering to their core users / domestic japanese market.
they'll still turn a profit but there's exactly zero reason for an investor to excited about them

Investors don't really care so much that the company is doing well today as nuch as they care for potential for growth in the future, and the prospect of growth in the future looks grim not just for Nintendo but the console gaming sector as a whole.

AI data centers continue to drive up the cost of components resulting in price hikes that leave large swathes of consumers priced out. We've seen this with the collapse of PS5 sales in regions that are traditionally Sony's strongest after the most recent price increase, and I don't think I need to elaborate on the $950 Steam Deck.

Pre-existing issues like ballooning software development time and budgets resulting in a first and second year library consisting of lower budget games or games that were already in development for a long time, for example we now know that the new Star Fox is outsourced and the Ocarina of Time Remake might be too.

Nintendo's not failing per se, their financials speak for themselves, they are very much still profitable, but they have peaked for the foreseeable future. The Switch 2 will do about as well as the current economic situation will allow, but that will be far less than what the original managed to hit. I'm going to be optimistic and say it will probably land a bit over 70 million lifetime, around 3DS numbers. A respectable number but less than the original, and that's not what investors want to see.
>>
>>740986207
>don't announce or tease any new 1st party games
>then announce a Star Fox 64 remake
>now an OoT remake
I don't get what the goal here is. Are they planning on remaking games for the next 2 years?
>>
>>740992441
Is Bananza the only "original" first party game (I know it's not a new IP but it is a completely new gameplay and graphical style for that IP) they've released for the Switch 2? Jesus.

They have over 50 years worth of savings stockpiled for "when things go bad". And that was since the Wii was in production. They don't care.

>>740992792
Wrong. Nintendo and Valve do not care about their shareholders, Nintendo because their primary interest is making games, and Valve because they don't have shareholders at all, they're not a public company.

Mario lost to Sonic permanently in the 90s and you motherfuckers know it. Mario only still has a career because the autism holocausters pulled cards to make Sonic weak. You’re just witnessing the natural result of a series that was always meant to die, Final Destination-style.

It's for the stupid ass movie, Nintendo has never, ever done a remake, only remasters or alternate versions for different platforms.

I bought before Switch 2 and sold after Mario Movie. I made $4,000. Nintendo has been so easy to surf since 2001. The cycle means it is easy to make money even when they are not doing well. The stocks always bounce making it easy to take your earnings and reinvest after a crash.

They gave up having a new 3D Mario game in favor of resurrecting Donkey Kong (only to hardly promote the fucking game even though it was a soft reboot and its first new game in 11 years) and passively soaking up their cut from a second Illumination movie. That new Direct was primarily a showcase for sword-and-anime gamers (aka Japanese ball-and-gun), which is nice and all for their Japanese market , but absolutely atrocious for their non-Japanese audiences. For some reason, they've doubled down on prioritizing and babying their Japanese players this generation even though they had absolutely no trouble with that last generation.

If they wanna be a global company and bank on global sales figures, then pivoting this generation to massively prioritize a market they've already had locked down extremely well with no threat of losing is fucking stupid. Plus you know good and goddamn well that the babying wasn't just referring to the kinds of games they've been prioritizing, but also how they had the rest of the world subsidize Japanese Switch 2 prices for a year, which they only stopped because NA/EU sales weren't enough to offset how goddamn much they were eating on Japanese units.

If we really wanna go Book of Genesis on this one: them deciding to outsource Metroid Prime 4 to Bamco Singapore.
>Bamco Singapore makes a disaster of a game that Nintendo thinks can't be salvaged by them
>has Retro Studios come in to put the pieces together (apparently working from Bamco's scraps)
>they've also been the DK guys, so no new DK game for the Switch 1 era
>Nintendo uses this as an opportunity to soft reboot DK
>but their obsession with systems-driven gameplay ever since BotW sold like heroin-laced crack meant that they had to spend many years just making the voxelized destructible environments work stably, but hit a dead end after years trying to make it work on Switch 1 while trying to make it presentable, so they had to transfer over to Switch 2 (where it still has to run at 30fps at times)
And what did we get in the end? A Metroid game so offensively bad that it finally ended Kensuke Tanabe's career, a Donkey Kong revival with a questionable focus that had no legs and piddly $20 DLC that was blatantly content stripped out of the base game, and not having a new 3D Mario game for at least a decade. The Furukawa era did a good job with the Switch 2 hardware but has no idea what the fuck to do on the software front.

Go check out the games released on the N64 and compare their output to Rare’s. Rare made almost as many games as Nintendo’s internal teams did on the system. Nintendo is notoriously bad at getting games to market. It used to be under the guise of “craftsmanship” but not it’s just laziness and incompetence. There was no reason Tears of the Kingdom took 6 years or the Mario team could only work on Bananza for 8 years. The Switch’s success and COVID made them really inefficient

Correct.
To be a game making company you either have to invest into making art, or be financially responsible. Getting your stock value deleted as Live Service games are oversaturating the market isn't any form of financial responsibility. Neither is over hiring, because the overall 3D workflow sucks.

They have switch sports resort, but neither switch sports nor the original wii sports resort lit the the world on fire. Only reason wii sports did as well as it did was because of it being bundled. If nintendo wasn't retarded they'd bundle every console going forward with welcome tour, drag x drive and a free year of switch online.

>drag their feet for the entire switch 1 generation banking on wii u ports, remasters, remakes and glorified ports like mario maker 2, splatoon 2 and smash ultimate
>despite this every other year is a drought year
>think they must be saving the good stuff for the switch 2
>turns out they had nothing to release even a year+ in
What the fuck have they been doing? Indies hard carried the switch 1, not as much as the wii u but still.

They spent all last generation reselling old games for full price and being showered with money and praise for it. Why wouldn't they do it again? They just can't do it with ports this time since the Switch 2 has BC, so they're spamming remakes and remasters instead.
