Is it really better than Skyrim?
>>
>>740986284
No and its not even close.
>>
Why the fuck must the game start in boring as fuck gray dungeon
I tried this game twice and dropped it within 20 minutes both times.
>>
>>740986471
Damn, I saw a lot of people hyping it up, I was hoping it was a hidden gem.
>>
>>740986519
Its not terrible.
>>
>>740986519
it is a hidden gem, if skyrim is a 10/10, tainted is a 8/10 after all the updates
>>
>>740986728
Okay, so still worth a pickup!
>>
>>740986759
It might even be better depending on what you value. Build customization is definitely higher in Tainted Grail especially since you can upgrade items forever so if you find some early weapon you really like you can just upgrade it forever.
>>
>>740986929
I am intrigued. I'll probably play and find out. Is the game in a good state polish wise at this point with all the updates or would waiting more make sense?
>>
It's better than Skyrim in every was except scale. And mods I guess if you want to count that.
>actual rpg mechanics
>stats and attributes
>specialization that actually matters
>dialogue and quest options that change outcomes
>varied locations and dungeons

If you like first person RPGs it's worth playing.
>>
>>740986284
No. It's extremely rough even compared to Skyrim, has smaller and fewer dungeons, and only the first region actually feels finished.
Play Enderal if you want Skyrim but better.
>>
>>740986284
its a nice teslike for when you've had enough of skyrim for awhile but want something that feels similar.
>>
>>740987074
>>740987841
I don't know who to trust!
>>
>>740988342
enderal is a half-assed skyrim mod so you can take that dingus' opinion with a heavy pinch of salt
>>
>>740987841
>>740988342
Enderal is a Gothic-like. That anon prefers Gothic over Skyrim and is confused about what's happening here.
>>
>>740988342
enderal is tc for skyrim that plays exactly like skyrim except it makes money valuable by learning all your skills from books.
tainted grail is sickdark arthurian lore (i.e. good) that plays like skyrim except it has parry/dodge built in and takes quite a lot of inspiration from souls games for aesthetic choices
>>
>>740986759
get it on sale, it's not a masterpiece by any means but still pretty fun for a skyrim style open world game
>>
>>740986284
Eh It's good but kinda overrated.
I think I enjoyed Avowed more than Tainted Grail if I'm being honest.
>>
>>740986284
I liked this game quite a lot. If you enjoy Skyrim I'd say it's worth checking out, at least if you have a good tolerance for Eurojank and all. It is quintessential Eurojank, with all of the good aspects that entails alongside the weirdness.
>>
>>740986284
Biggest point of contention in the Skyrim comparison is that TG doesn't have a continuous landmass. The game is broken up into 3 chuncks. It also doesn't even attempt to make every object have physics you can't build those autistic Rube Goldberg machines.
What the game has going for it being an RPG where you actually have to build a proper character and not just grind until you max out every skill. Combat is thankfully also more interesting.

I've spent over 100 hours in it, I think it's good. You can think of the game as elder scrolls with a more "serious" tone, but I think the characters are unique enough that setting doesn't feel bland.

>>740987074 says it pretty well for a short and sweet description.
>>
>skyrim
>10/10
Shills everywhere.
>>
>>740986284
Yes and it's not even close
>>
Tainted Grail's biggest criticism at v1.0 was all the attention went to the first act since that was the part that was open to players during the beta testing/early access. By the time you reach the optional act 3 you find it very bare compared to act 1.
Don't know if that got fixed in the current version.

As for combat, it's dodge and weave with ranged damage dealers in the form of spells and bows.
There's quite a variety of enemies with their own attack patterns but most of them are weak against stealth archer builds just like Skyrim.
Boss fights feel like the developers really put attention to them and their arena unlike Skyrim where it feels like map layout and boss location was just sprinkled in.
I had more engaging conversation with a mute than any NPC in Skyrim in act 1
>>
>>740986284
It's an actual RPG unlike Skyrim
>>
>enter act 2
>suddenly my weapon deals a quarter of the damage it used to
the fuck was that about?
>>
>>740989694
Act 3 is still really anemic, but that's more a credit to Act 1's density and complexity, on top of having more time for its hooks to echo in later acts. What's really baffling to me is that the DLC added in Atlantis as a fourth zone when you still never go to Kamelot

I love Tainted Grail and highly recommend it. The writing, voice acting, and quests are fun, and the environmental design is spectacular. Arthur is such a great character.

Everyone always harps on the last Act/Area but I feel it fits rather well. It is a giant frozen wasteland and the quests have plenty of variety even if they are a bit clustered. Just for the Volker tribe they have the simple "Go here and kill the bandits" , but also Endless Creams Of Agony or Tyge's sad story of trying to find an honorable death.

The only tribe that kinda feels lacking is the Theud, but the little they give you is pretty damn good.
>>
>>740986519
It's fun, but skyrim, especially with all the insane modding its gotten over the years is nearly impossible to beat. Avalon is still easily the best rpg like an elder scrolls to have come out in years though.

>>740989872
Yeah, that is one of the rough spots. As soon as you really hit your stride in Act 1, you'll run into a bit of a wall in Act 2 with how everything is that much stronger. Once you change out your equipment and get a few more levels under your belt, it levels out, but then Act 1 is still hilariously soft compared to the rest of the game.
>>
>>740989872
every act has new sets to find, the game massively rewards exploration
also you can upgrade all your stuff and by act 2 you're pretty deep into your primary trees and start doing big crit damage.
>>
>cast fireball
>enemy dies
>upgrade my armor to +10
>now immune to damage
it's neat but I wouldn't call the gameplay well-crafted
maybe I'll try melee once it has more updates
>>
>>740990208
>spoiler
Pretty much the single most disappointing thing about the game. They really need to add it, even if it ends up as a DLC.
>>
>>740991441
Maybe that's the sequel. But what to do without being... what would you even call the player character, The Avatar of Arthur?
>>
>>740991605
You do carry his soul with you as you go on an adventure together while he has to witness just how far his kingdom has fallen despite his best efforts. The men who came after Arthur were not up to the task of keeping it together.
>>
>>740986284
lol. Its a passable game for like 10 hours, then it becomes bad, before becoming abysmall. Its another early access scam that's polished just enough so you dont refund it and boring enough so you don't play it long enough to hate it
>>
>>740986728
not really no. If skyrim is 10 this is like 4
>>
>>740991605
It'd be pretty kino if there was an ending that actually restores Avalon to its former glory while simultaneously cleansing Kamelot of it's corruption. Would make for a great true ending if it's also the hardest one to achieve.
>>
>>740990208
whats that goy? you want the game to be finished? You want a good act 3? How about unrelated DLC expansion that you should give us money for! Thank you
>>
>>740986728
If skyrim is a 10/10, I'd rate it more of a 7/10 as an overall game. It'd be a 6 if the devs weren't actively adding more content and fleshing out the more barebones acts.
>>
>>740988417
Imagine saying that while praising Tainted Grail. I'm baffled by your absolute lack of taste.

Oh, I got it, The Children Of Morrigan! You're a rising Fledgling who Morrigan herself has taken in interest in. You can do the normal adventure stuff because that gets you into the places you need to be to orchestrate the changes they usually make from the shadows.
>>
>>740988506
Enderal is still more Skyrim-like than Gothic-like (it's the same engine and gameplay for gods sake)
But all that can be disregarded because Tainted Grail is a half finished mess without any of the charm TES games offer. It's soulless in nu/v/ speak and I'm actual astonished to see as much praise as it's getting in this thread

To me it feels much more like New Vegas. You're asked very early on to pick out alignments and loyalties and help 'colorful' npcs with quests. The combat is a lot better and the character building more thoughtful and flavorful, than Bethesda games, but the exploration is not as enticing at all.

My personal grievance is that I like Arthurian Romance and the game takes pretty much nothing from that, it may as well take place in any generic dark fantasy world.
>>
>>740986284
Yes. Skyrimjob is an action game misadvertised as an RPG. Tainted Grail is basically straight up action and needs no misadvertising. It also does better story telling and has better action. Oh and also the unstuck option.

Are you confusing Morgan La Fey with The Morrigan, or is the Irish goddess of carnage and really good deals for hot sex actually in the game?

This, you only play it because you've got burnt out of Skyrim/Oblivion and it's the only other scrollslike on the market. It's good but....it's not THAT good. It's like hopping on Mortal Shell 1 after you beat all the From Soft soulslikes.
>>
>>740992632
>exploration isn't enticing
Grail has build defining gear and magic behind every corner, exploration is immensely satisfying and best part of the game

The only good thing about this game is soundtrack.
It's otherwise dull and uninspiring, the visual design is just cringe.
>>
>>740993358
>Goddess of carnage and really good deals

I don't know if you can call any deal given to you by a god or a fae good.
>>
>>740986284
all the fags in this thread acting like skyrim is good top fucking kek skyrim is a 4/10 game carried by mods and is the worst elder scrolls game when compared to morrowind and oblivion
if you couldnt mod skyrim it would be like starfield a game barely anyone remembers
>>
>>740996703
Unless you find your end gear in Act 1

For me that was Revenant's Set (+30% damage) then Lancelot's Set (+105% damage).

Never had any reason to switch it up.
>>
>>740986284
Skyrim is garbage so yes

I did the same with some light armor wizard set that gave a fuckton of spell damage bonus and the pyromancer's wand. Setting shit on fire, getting boosted damage the moment things have a DoT on them, and getting auto-crits every other spell. Don't care if I'm fragile as hell, most enemies, and some of the bosses, die instantly.
>>
>>740996952
Skyrim is a better game than Oblivion
>>
>>740996952
Skyrim is better than oblivion and morrowind.
>>
Pretty fucking gay writing
>We need a name for our super duper evil force
>Dude let's call it weirding!
Might as well call it the sussing or three gnarlyness
>>
>>740986284
Skyrim is absolute dogshit in every single metric, the story, the gameplay, the graphics, the open world, the quests, to such a point that the people still playing it end up installing a 800gb modlist just so they can play as Marie Rose or some other female character and get raped by bandits and animals.
Tainted grail is rough around the edges but still objectively better than the 2/10 that Bethesda made.
>>
>Two boss types in the entirety of the game
>Any other boss is a normal unit resized
>Every cool thing in the game like the big fish is just a static mesh you have a dialogue with and then never actually engage with
lol lmao

>>740986284
Playing it just astounds even more how technically inept Bethesda is. Tainted Grail was at least developed by a no-name new studio. What's Bethesda's excuse?
>>
>>740997742
bethesda is no different from some east euro jank studio. difference is people just laugh off the jank in their games and journos turned a blind eye to it.

Good story, shit gameplay
Must play if you're into Arthurian mythos, but if not, don't bother.
>>
>>740997742
Too many cooks in the kitchen, also general incompetence. As in, over 3000 people to develop Starfield and what we got was a buggy mess of slop that looks ugly to look at while also somehow still being incredibly generic. Even the concept of being able to traverse multiple different timelines and dimensions....far too many NPC's are essential so you can't kill them. Why not? There's a literal infinite amount of the same characters because there's a (theoretically) infinite number of NG+ you can do. Bethesda isn't just incompetent, they're lacking in vision as well.

>I think I enjoyed Avowed more than Tainted Grail if I'm being honest.
avowed has made surprising strides after all the patches, but after initial mockery everyone moved on and stopped caring
>>
>Game about Arthurian legend
>Intro song is about Nordic gods
Vikings still shitting on Brits in 202X lmao.
>>
>>740997942
Well just in terms of aesthetics, grim dark Arthurian adventures beats out zoomer broccoli haired mushroom faggotry by a country mile.
>>
>>740989872
I assume they patched the merchant/arrow exploit, since I ended up getting +28 gear and curb stomping everything in sight
>>
>>740997979
Better yet, all songs are. AND they are re-used from their roguelite game, so it's not like they are even new songs, either.
Sloppy seconds + not setting relevant. Truly a quality product.
>>
>>740986284
No, it just tries to fill the need for a Skyrim-like game if you're looking for something else to play. Couldn't finish it myself, too boring
>>
>>740986284
first map is good, second is ok third is literally unplayable garbage. making the underwater dlc instead of fixing act3 is a criminal offense
>>
chat is there a grappling hook or bunnyhopping?
>>
Playing through it now and I love it. Did the “bad” ending first with an archer build and now my second playthrough as a mage. Destroying everything is great fun and I like how little things change a lot. Can’t wait for the third playthrough, although still deciding on which weapon to use.
>>
It's a eurojank bootleg TES (the most soulful kind of bootleg) and more true to the RPG tag than anything Bethesda makes any more.
>>
>>740995767
>scrollslike
Are there even any? I can only really think of KC:D.
>>
>>741001837
KCD isn't a scrollslike, quite literally the only one I can think of IS Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon, it's literally that much of a dead market.
>>
>>740988981
>>740997942
I played Avowed a few months ago and i think it sucked ass. I don't even care about the woke shit, it just wasn't a good game. I liked the movement and rare platforming though

I played a bit of it a while ago and i'm considering going back to it because of this thread to check it out now with all the patches and stuff, but man, the thought of going through that boring fucking dungeon at the beginning just fills me with dread. Is there any way to skip it altogether?
>>
>>741005372
Yes you can start directly from the beach.
>>
>act 3 is unfinished
>they keep making dlc set in act 2 instead of finishing it
>>
>>740986284
nah but it is pretty fun and definitely has a kino story
>>740986519
I would call it a hidden gem, definitely worth a play and don't spoil anything for yourself you don't need a guide.
>>
Game just fucking wore me out
>Do a bazzilion quests to reactivate the menhir
>Alright time to move on
>Hah ha ha, not without doing another set of stupid ass chores
>>
>>741005952
lolwut, you can speed run the main quest of the game in like 10 hours by accident if you just ignore all the side quests
>>
>>741005997
The main quest is the worst fucking part, an obstacle to the actually fun stuff.
>>
>>740986284
dropped it during act 1, never gripped me
>>
>>740986284
