It's less tedious than Replicant, I think.
It's kind of the inverse of it, where if in Replicant you play act 1 once and then a minimum of act 2 twice (or 3 for all endings if you don't want to savestate),
in Automata you play Act 1 twice (once with 2B, then with 9S) and then you play Act 2 once, because after completing it you get a chapter select so you don't have to run half the game again for another ending.
9S I think is actually easier because hacking is overpowered.

The reveal there's multiple copies of them that each have their own assignments just kind of made sense more than it being surprising.
