Yellow is the you can't parry this visual indicator, though you still need to pay attention to the attack itself for timing for dodging. Blue/purple is the dodge when flashing. And if you play the game like a parry/dodge punishment game, you're playing it wrong.

Missiles in particular can both knock down and deal significant damage to a number of bosses. I think using a gun-focused setup is actually the easiest way to deal with Mann in particular.

Also that all of your combos have almost no distinction damage-wise, so you're always cycling between your fastest combo, one with the most quick hits (so you can more easily stop and parry), and the one really big combo that is the only one that has a meaningful damage difference. Your beta abilities don't really have any depth either. I tried playing it last week and the game is pretty and the music is nice but the combat is unbearably boring and I know it doesn't go anywhere from here so i'm gonna be doing the same exact shit for the next 10+ hours. Story failed to grip me with it's world or characters either. Also I tried hard mode at the start and it was really frustrating, I think I spend 2 or 3 hours fighting the first boss of the game and afterwards I looked it up and found out that originally hard mode was locked until you beat the game and that hard mode is intended to be played on NG+ so I completely raped myself because I had no way to know without looking it up....and now the game is insanely easy on normal. There's no balance between the two modes.

Just beat the game and got the true ending yesterday. It was sick as fuck, gotta say though, fuck the gooks for trying to charge $70 for a 2 year old game. I tried it out because of the voices crack, saying I'd buy it physical if I liked it and at 3 hours in I liked it enough to buy it, but the gooks wanted $70 for it still. Funnily enough it looks like it's on sale at several retailers because of the announcement of the second game. Oh well, they lost a sale. I would have absolutely bought the game if it were a reasonable price.

Stellar Blade looked more MGR and less Bayonetta to me. MGR is more flashy but lacks the mechanical depth to really carry it through into the big leagues and SB looked the same to me. It's fine if a game is like that but I have a lot less interest in them.I hope the 2nd one is better because I really do love punch based combat.
