because it still has all the FAQs
also zoomies have realized how much DEI has made modern games suck, so they're playing old school GameBoy shit on their emulators and need all the old shit nobody cares to wiki (or more often, tries to erase and rewrite to conform to DEI requirements, never mind if the new "FAQ" is nothing but lies)
>>
Only a gaming magazine jew would think that.
Some games back then were made with magazines in mind and gamefaqs just made it so this greedy system wouldn't work.
>>
Maybe gamefaqs will make a comeback.

Once all the AI models fall into a self-referential, hallucinatory death spiral and start telling everyone you unlock Mew by drinking bleach, people will have to go and seek out the information manually.

They recently had a poll where users were asked if they want "he, she, xe, it, they non binary" gender descriptions added next to user names and the users voted overwhelming for it, to stomp down on "mis gendering"

>Maybe gamefaqs will make a comeback.
It's hard to see how. Wikis and Youtube have made FAQs and written walkthroughs obsolete. Video walkthroughs on Youtube are quicker and easier for the vast majority of games. For the small subset of very complex games where video walkthroughs may not work, there is almost always going to be a dedicated wiki. Video game reviews are also worthless and every site has them. "Cheats" have been replaced by DLC and don't even exist anymore. The message board is the only part of the site that has any potential for a comeback, but there is already too much established competition - /v/, reddit, discord. GameFAQs had its time, but it fell behind and became obsolete

I loved GameFAQs c. 1997 or 1998, because it meant I no longer had to buy the strategy guide for most games I was playing. They were generally $15-20, so that's basically the savings of 1/3 of a game when you didn't buy a guide. This is a good thing. Every game was coming out with shoddy guidebooks, their pages falling out of the spine the first time you turn to them, so GameFAQs democratizing that for free was awesome as a kid with l i t t l e m o n e y

>Video walkthroughs on Youtube are quicker and easier for the vast majority of games
How? Video walkthroughs are only good if you want to find one specific thing and need to specifically know where it is in-game. Otherwise, it's much worse going through a long ass video walkthrough than just opening a written guide and CTRL-Fing or looking at the ToC. For wikis, there are a shit ton of games that do not have super detailed and autistically crafted wikis. You're assuming that the only games that people write guides for are wiki games where you need to have a wiki open at all times to know how to do anything when that's just not true.

This place already is a ghost town. Check out the leaks from last year if you haven't already. The vast majority of traffic on this site is glowies (who were proven to also be moderators) and AI advertisement bots. Less than 10% of the current users they report on the home page are actually real people. It's likely gotten even worse over the past year as even more people left and didn't come back.

The silver lining is that, whether they like it or not, this information is now public. It used to just be a crackpot theory just like the files surrounding Moot's best friend. Now that it's proven to all be true, we have leverage to demand transparency from the staff here going forward. The lack of it is what caused the hackers to do what they did and expose just how vulnerable this site and the people that run it can be.

Social media sites like Twitter are run by untouchable trillionaires and impoverished jeets across the planet. There's a good chance that at least one 4chan mod lives in the same state as you. ;)

Serving static pages is extremdly cheap and cacheable, their marginal costs are probably close to zero due to no business logic being needed, and the content itself doesn't exactly go stale.

You could probably run the site on a 4 buck a month hetzner VM and just on pure brand power I'd easily bet on them making more than that from some combo of nostalgia sponsorships, banner ads, and merch.

*is the best games database online with invaluable information. Including the following for every title ever released: developer and publisher information, detailed release dates for all regions, alternate titles for each region, box art including alternates for each region, user ratings, information about a games difficulty and length.*

I use gamefaqs almost daily. Not for forums or anything like that, i don't give a flying fuck about online communities, they're full of idiots no matter where you go. But It's absolutely amazing how much information is on there.
The only thing that pisses me off about gamefaqs is they have Wild Guns for the SNES listed as a "Light Gun" game and when i submitted a correction telling them that the light gun doesn't work with that game, and it should be listed as a third person shooter, they said "no if it has a reticle on screen then its a light gun game".

I once got banned for disagreeing with someone on Dragon Age: Origins. After the ban I borderline lost interest for a month or two. Returned and the same guy I argued with almost hours after the fact, came back and said I was trolling and stirring trouble. Did that for days and days for zero reason or provocation.

If you think that's bad, you should see how far they go to protect trannies. Unsurprising since many of the mods are literal, actual trannies

I'm old enough that I was browsing on SegaSages and World of Nintendo to find cheat codes before GameFAQs was a thing. I also played a knockoff bomberman in the web browser along with Graal before it had a client. I mean, that and stuff like Whump the Wumpus. I browsed and posted on GFAQs until Gamespot ate it.
