You have menus with no indication that there's a sub menu available. Even by old school jrpgs standards that predate it don't do shit like this. Its the one game where its just better to watch a youtube playthrough because the gameplay doesn't give you any kind of feeling of accomplishment. The game was simply unfinished so the dev just crammed as much story into the game as possible. Read past interviews and see the mountains of lore he had planned. He wanted this series to be like Trails.
