This is a Sierra point-and-click masquerading as a survival horror game.

they are called adventure games
this one is action adventure more specifically

Yeah it's fucking great.

>masquerading as a game in the genre that this very game created
gotta be at least 18 to post here lil gup
>>
>>741161235
It's not quite moon logic but in essence classic REs are adventure games with tank controls and very basic combat. The puzzles in RE all make sense.
>>
>>741161828
>RE inventing anything
LOL
LMAO
>>
>>741161235
Yeah but it's still fun and the puzzles are cool.
>>
>game has puzzles and more than 2 different types of keys
AIIIEEEEEE back to Requiem!
>>
Maybe that's why I liked it more than the later entries
>>
>>741161235
Yeah that's true RE. A point and click horror adventure where you use tank controls to move your character around instead of a mouse.

Modern RE4slop is NOT RE.
>>
>>741161873
It's not necessarily moon logic but some of the sequences of events you need to go through are ridiculous for something pretending to be a horror game.
>>
every day is a new level of negative IQ post with you retards
>>
>>741161235
"survival horror" is a marketing buzzword invented to sell this *exact* game to console kiddos.
You people are so fucking ignorant istg.
>>
I hate so much nigers.
>>
>>741161235
Ah yes, the franchise that coined the term “survival horror” isn’t survival horror. What a take.
>>
>>741165756
>"survival horror" is a marketing buzzword
Maybe when referring to Resident Evil. Silent Hill blows this garbage out of the water when it comes to being an actual video game and it lives up to the genre too.
>>
>>741167117
Hahah
>>
>>741167117
I agree that Silent Hill (1 only) is a good action adventure game and very much is Konami eating Capcom 's lunch.
But the label still isn't useful. "Horror" in general is an aesthetic not a genre, especially in video games where genre is tied to operational mechanics.
>>
classic survival horror is such a god awful genre
>>
>>741168579
"Survival horror" is just shorthand for "horror themed action-adventure puzzler" like how "immersive sim" is shorthand for "open-ended adventure and exploration game". You play one game labeled as it and you get what the genre is regardless of name.
>>
>>741168639
It's a genre carried totally by nostalgia.

>Sierra point-and-click
It's a LOT more forgiving than that.
You don't accidentally wander into the wrong room and just die (without a decent amount of sign posting), or get vibechecked by instant death because you didn't complete some esoteric task at the start of the game you didn't know you could even interact with.
Sierra's design was "throw shoe at cat to save mouse on background 3 so it can chew the binds off you in an hour when you get kidnapped, if you don't you get a game over and no further information on what you did wrong" (this is a real example).
RE1's closest situation would be the shotgun wall swap, and that's only really as Chris since Barry just boots the door wide open for you.
The puzzles in RE can be a little goofy at times, but they're definitely not sierra moonlogic levels of bullshit.
>>
>>741169249
Yeah but it's still good

>watch someone play the HD REMASTER
>they can't into tank controls
>use the shitty modern controls instead
>character instantly turns into the opposite direction almost every time the camera changes
Will never not be funny
>>
>>741167117
silent hill is tedious and undeservingly pretentious
>>
>>741169506
not being able to visualize the character direction pov seems worse to me than having no inner monologue
>>
>>741169506
>character instantly turns into the opposite direction almost every time the camera changes
I don't know where this meme came from, it locks your direction when you transition between screens.
>>
>>741169506
Both modern controls and tank controls are fine
>>
>>741169669
Only if you keep the stick in the same position. If you move it, it causes the character to switch directions. And yeah, many people who can't grasp tank controls have trouble grasping that mechanic as well.
>>
>>741161235
that's actually why i liked RE7....felt like a spooky, immersive point and click adventure game. i've never enjoyed the limited ammo/stressful action sequences of survival horror games
>>
>>741169523
Only 2. And even then only because of pretentious fans. It's pretty simple.
>>
The algorithm really wants to make fun of brits today
>>
>literally have the same exact game as Alone in the dark
>some zoomer retard on 4chan: is this a sierra game?
>>
>>741161235
>the game that literally defined the term survival horror isnt survival horror
the shit you read on this site nowadays
>>
>>741169729
The real culprit that filters people are the doghit camera angles.
I don't give a fuck how good the prerenders look and how mindblowingly cinematic it was back in 1850 when it came out, the camera smash cutting all over creation every 4 seconds and needing to reoriented yourself is infuriating.
>>
>>741170215
Quite simply a skill issue
>>
>>741170215
Uh no. That's quite literally a skill issue.
>>
>>741170215
This has gotta be bait. Do you also get whiplash every time a movie has a cut?
>>
>>741170638
I don't need to navigate a character through an edited movie under duress.
>>
>>741170215
>needing to reoriented yourself
The whole point of tank controls is that you don't have to reorient yourself.

>You don't accidentally wander into the wrong room and just die

That broken doorknob in the northeast is basically Sierra. It doesn't tell you it's a one-way trip until after you've passed through it, and doesn't mark it on the map either, and the corridor outside gets COMPLETELY INFESTED with like 6 zombies after the first trip through.
>>
>>741171110
You need to reorient your own frame of reference because some of the angles are so drastically different. You can be running towards a hallway on the right side of the screen and then a camera shift happens and now it's on the left. Tank controls only solve the mechanical problems that come with fixed angles.

>>741171375
Yeah that was pretty bullshit in retrospect.
>>
>>741171534
Uh no you don't. If you need your character to turn to a door on your character's right hand side, then you always press right, no matter what the camera angle is. It's simple.
>>
>>741169249
Didnt get into survival horror until like 5 years ago and its one of the best genres.
>>
>>741161235
This quip encapsulates the beauty of REmake and Zero. They are, at least in their first halves before the inevitable, proprietary turn towards Sy-Fy channel cheese, perfect, atmospheric adventure games with a one-track focus on immersing you in the module, so to speak.
>>
>>741171595
I can tell you're someone that has played through Resident Evil 20 times already and can't fathom how someone playing for the first can get turned around trying to internalize what a singular room looks like when it's shown to them from 5 radically different angles instead of a real 3D space.
>>
>>741161235
And thats a good thing
>>
>>741172630
I had no issue when I first played it. I think you're just stupid. Like you lack spatial awareness and orientation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spatial_ability
>>
>>741161235
yes, and?
>>
>>741171534
>>741172630
Just because you're unfamiliar with it and have trouble doesn't mean there's anything actually wrong with it.
>>
>>741169506
>Starts blaming the controls that he chose himself
it's crazy
>>
>>741173123
That means it acts as a filter, numbnuts.
>>
>>741173680
Sure but it filters you because you're retarded.

Yeah, they should have warned you that the knob was gonna fall off and the area would have more enemies. That would've been really scary.
>>
>>741174460
I played it as an adult in 2019.
>>
>>741174460
Replying with a wojak kinda confirms you're retarded.
>>
>>741174460
If a kid, the intended audience of a videogame, enjoyed it, then yes, it was good design.
>>
>>741168639
there is like 5 "classic' RE games and re1 is the only one that is any good
>>
>>741169506
I think one of the most brilliant design decisions in this game and the og is giving you full control you enter the dining room. It's very spacious and simulates how you'll be traversing the hallways and corridors along the mansion. If you somehow get filtered by that, then you might actually be low iq
>>
>>741177397
This but RE2
>>
>>741161235
Would Jill date anons?
