Has a game ever given you a choice that you thought was very strange, or which made you think?

>>
No one has to die if you just keep doubling it
>>
>>741213710
How did 16 million people get taken from where they were and tied to the track? Or did they magically spawn into existence? Is there a reason to care about someone that poofs into reality just for a shitty hypothetical?

hmm yeah probably
>>
>>741213850
technically true, we'll all be tied up to the tracks
>>
>>741213850
it will eventually get into the hands of a psycho and at that point the entire population of earth will be on the track
>>
>>741213850
A psychopath or brain-dead retard will eventually pull it, and the death toll will be several magnitudes greater than what it is in the image.
>>741213904
It's a hypothetical, retard. The logistics don't matter. Only the ethical dilemma matters.
>>
>>741213850
Tbh, dying is probably better than being bound to a train track between 7 billion people for all eternity.
>>
>>741213850
But do you trust that the next guy isn't literally the Joker?
>>
>>741213776

>>
>>741213710
Pull it. The trolley can't crush more than a dozen and you'll end up tied to the track eventually.
>>
>>741213850
Part of the premise of this problem is usually that the people can't escape, so eventually you'd end up with the whole world except for one person foreverially tied up on the track.
>>
>>741213710
I immediately kill the person proposing the problem to prevent more people being tied to train tracks, chased by immortal snails or god fucking help me washing each other's backs while there are no mirrors present.

Remember that it is always ethically correct to kill people who use game theory and they are required to accept this and should thank you for it. Don't think too hard about it though or else you'll also need to be killed.
>>
>>741213710
So if you pull now nobody else will have to deal with the problem?
Yea I'll do it.
>>
>everyone keeps doubling it
>by the end there's going to be more people on the top track then there are people alive
just fucking pull the thing, with 16 million people it's probably 99% indians anyway
>>
>>741213710
Give it to the next person and tell them to double it too
>>
>>741213710
This is choiceslop
>>
>plot twist
The people tied up on the tracks are actually the people who chose to not double.
So if you choose to kill the people you are going onto the tracks next.
>>

the logistics are part of the dilemma

I feel like this joke image is actually a valid idea because the first 8 or so people would look at it as needlessly killing a huge amount of people, and it would take a while before someone thinks of the big picture if the problem continues. Ends up being a classic problem of kill a few to save the majority. With an added complication that it seems needlessly cruel at the start. It's only when the problem is big enough that someone can see it. Basically, kill immigrants before they land.
>>
>>741213850
Not my problem.
>>
>>741213710
Does the train track magically spawn more people or is it capped at Earth's population?
If it's capped, just keep sending it and you'll eventually save everyone's lives. If not, well, that's another discussion. Infinite people spawner could be useful.
>>

This isn't a marathon where you can pass it onto another guy. The classic problem implies it's a split second decision and the train moves fast.

This is honestly a hard choice. Being personally responsible for the deaths of over 16 million people is very tempting, but then you prevent exponentially more people from dying. And if no one ever pulls it then you basically did nothing.

Imagine being your run-of-the mill retard with 80iq (if put to perform modern iq test) due to huffing leaded gasoline gases their whole life. No matter what kind of fuckup you were you still got huge raises, an apartment thats now worth millions and whatnot. You just did bare minimum, so anyone living currently not getting the same must be lazy and even more incompetent than you since you cannot comprehend that life works by different rules now. Or maybe you could, but that'd be admitting your success is due to sheer dumb luck and you'd be absolutely fucked growing up now. Its willful ignorance to explain why you got so much despite putting in 10% of the effort. Its easier to explain to yourself that "you earned it fair and square".

>>
>>741217163
Let's assume for a second that no catastrophic effects from unmanned mechanical items (factories, power plants, etc) occurs.
The sheer multitude of corpses there would dramatically alter the ecosystem but it would probably recover within a few years, very shortly after the bodies finish decomposing and nature begins reclaiming the land

>>
>>741217552
The bodies alone would do basically nothing. 1.4 Billion humans are nothing compared to the amount of beings that has existed on earth. 1.4 billion dead bodies existing at the same time would just decompose and cease to exist and the earth itself wouldn't even care they were there.

New trolley problem:
There are 16 million indians tied to a track.
You can pull the lever now to get rid of 16 million of them.
You can also pass it on to the next person hoping they will pull the lever themselves.
But you can also refuse to partake in this altogether. The trolley problem is solved and no one dies.
Passing it on doubles the amount of indians tied to the track.
Do you get rid of only 16 million or pass it on hoping to get rid of more at the risk of not getting rid of anyone?

Correct, but they would never thank you because 1) game theorists are like subjectivists/relativists and cannot be consistent in their principles; 2) game theorists live in denial because game theory never actually works because people's motivations and actions are not entirely (if at all) rational on any scale, and that is before factoring in cultural conditioning and differences.

The trolley must be idle, waiting for the first lane switcher, because it cannot know which person, if any, would initiate such a switch. A train in movement is thus out rules because the obvious solution then would be to just wait.
After enough pulls, all qualified or potentially qualified trolley drivers will be placed on the tracks wearing striped shirts. As nobody would be able to drive the trolley, this leaves them an unlimited amount of time for them to get up, evacuate and change into something less embarrassing. Therefore, immobilising the lever with cement or similar and passing always is the correct option. QED.

They grew up in a time of plenty and amassed wealth and prestige. Who would want to give it up? Even the most generous individual can be convinced by the majority to act like a selfish retard. The world’s dying and people are suffering but they don’t see the effects, so who cares?

Acknowledging that is admitting that the rules of the game have changed, which is admitting that modern life is harder, which is admitting that their life was easier, which undermines and devalues the hardships they've gone through to get to where they are, and means admitting that their thoughtless consumption and expansion was short sighted and never accounted for future generations
Which means is just a matter of pride, and they will refuse to give way until their very last breath, and it will be only at then when we will be able to rip the bandaid off and start changing the world as it is now to fix the problems the past never accounted for. And that is going to hurt, because we let the blood stick to the bandaid for far too long

I've seen some boomers starting to wake up and realize the struggle of their children recently and get involved into politics because of that.
Heard two old retired ladies talking about the economy situation for younger generations while on the bus the other day, and saying that they (the elderly) can't be content to sit on their ass all day and she encouraged the other to get involved in voting to change the situation.
Was quite heartwarming to be honest.

What i wonder is how fast can that train kill people. If its speed doubles everytime, then everything is fine until it becomes faster than light.
If it's speed stays the same or can't become faster than light, there'll be a point where people will die of natural causes before they're run over. I couldn't be bothered with the math behind so I outsourced it, and apparingly with 5.64 times 10^17 humans (assuming a tied human every half meter) you already have a track that spans 100 light years.
It seems a lot of people, but it gets doubled everytime so it's easy to reach

The only right solution to any form of the trolley problem is the kill the person asking you to make the choice.
You didn't randomly stumble into this situation fully aware of your potential options and their consequences and those people didn't tie themselves to the tracks either. This entire situation was engineered from the beginning by a third party. Kill them or the games may never end.

Forgiving college debt and making college 100% free first came to my mind. Everyone who already paid off their student loans feels it's unfair that irresponsible retards get a free pass for their retardation.

My sister went to a private school for an art degree and had to retake several classes she failed. My parents helped her pay for school because she didn't want to work.

Since my parents wasted money on my sister, I had to pay for my own college. I went to community college first and finished my bachelors online at the cheapest school, while working full time.

My sister got a decent paying job right out of school because of DEI. Then easily job hopped for better pay also because of DEI. She quit working all together since COVID and moved back in with the parents.

I had to suffer years of working at the same job even after graduating because employers expected years and years of experience for entry level jobs.

She's still owes over $60k in student loans and more in credit card debt. I've been debt free the entire time. It's obvious why she keeps voting for the side that promises to make things free.

what strikes me about this meme is that the "ukranians" did not use weapons fire.
its something dug with shovels.
some retarded russian ordered a trench dug here to deny the Ukrainians the ability to use the tracks to advance further into russian territory
those are just all russians in that picture.

Probably "ends justify the means" type of sunk cost fallacy in general. For video game examples I can think of Tokugawa in Nioh and I think Kageaki in Muramasa says something akin to that at least once.

Send the Theseus to the box and the pillow. Send the tank of rats to the guy who will call me a bitch for saving him. Send the vulcans to the time traveler. Send the man in the room (who will be saved) to the pedophile. Pull optional switch 1, 2 & 3.

A little less than 24% Not bad. But keep in mind that if you lose the gamble, you still kill 5 people, as opposed to 1. Is 24% over 15% really worth risking 4 more lives?
>>
>>741246212
At 75% chance to tank the first one has a good chance to derail the trolley and the rest are safe.

>it will eventually keep going until some psychopath has to choose and picks human extinction
The only right answer is to switch early on. 16 millions is a good breakpoint for this dilema. On one hand you have the highest kill count for a single person on the other you're saving at least as many people.

>On one hand you have the highest kill count for a single person
Finally, someone mathematically worse than Hitler.
