I played it on the Wii back in the day but never made it past Satorl Marsh. But I'm about to go to the high Entia Tomb now and I can easily see why this game burned me out. These environments are just so fucking tediously massive that I can't imagine how anyone could have put up with it without the jetbike. It reminds me a lot of playing FFXIV before getting mount speed increases/flight, except you don't even have a sprint.So far I'm liking the game, but it seems a bit overrated for now. The combat's serviceable enough, the characters don't stand out much but they're fairly likable. I caught myself thinking "Damn, this is a Xenosaga-ass cutscene," during some of the long conversations in Alcamoth, so I'm hoping that doesn't continue.

I’m replaying 1 with this update and I forgot how the monado visions aren’t really used that well story wise. In fact I think Shulk is shown too much combined with the stuff exclusive to the player’s view. I think the stuff “foreshadowing” the Silver/Nemesis Face’s identity should’ve been toned down way more, and I put that in quotes because it’s just revealed outright sometime before Makna Forest. I think the game has pretty pore reveal pacing overall, this isn’t even that bad compared to the stuff with Dickson.

Xenoblade 2 is definitely backloaded. I like everything from Chapter 5 onwards and then it becomes very good at Chapter 7. I think chapter 3 is good but 1, 2, and 4 are whatever. I didn’t really appreciate them until the game was over, especially 1. Torna is also really good.

Xenoblade 1 - ControlXenoblade 2 - Nihilism/DespairXenoblade 3 - StagnationSometimes that works out masterfully (2) and sometimes it crashes and burns (3). I thought 3 had the strongest concept for a villain but it just didn't stick the landing. Or the idea of how the handle the villain (everyone except N and M are all power ranger villains with no development) was flawed from the beginning).

There is no reason for this to be a twist. Nia could've just explained this in her giant exposition dump scene. And we needed some cutscenes with the characters actually discussing what was going to happen to them and what they were going to do.
