It's been a while, but I think that's it.
Most if not all Paradox games come with their DLCs preinstalled regardless of whether you bought it, so you shouldn't have to go out of your way to get the files. You can check by going to the content folder in SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Age of Wonders 4\Content.

>>
>>741264550
I pirate it once a year to see new tomes and rulers. Its a fun game, but It dont have replaybility. I think its the same with most 4x titles, games comes out, I play with orfinal 4 factions and drop it. Dlc comes out with 1-2 new factions, play them and drop it again. Rinse and repeat.
The only ppl that I can somewhat understand are multifags because for them the game is about finding and wxploating the meta, for roleplayers game is just a one time offer.
>>
>>741265079
No, you'll get more piecemeal DLC that involves 1-3 more tomes for research, a bunch of extra randomization options, and maybe another story realm or 2, and pay 10-20 dollars for it.

Face it, AoW4 has become Fantasy Stellaris.

>>
>>741272852
Depends on how much you like tactical turn based combat, because the Age of Wonders series is pretty heavy on combat, heroes, and generally has less emphasis on the empire building than other 4X games. So much so that until the more recent titles, the diplomacy with other players and neutral factions was basically non-existent. Still is for the most part, but you'll win most of your games through conquest long before you meet the criteria for a magic (research) or expansion victory.

Everything being customable turned it into a very generic fantasy with no canon races. You no longer have goblins or undead and shit. You can now just create undead goblins riding unicorns and fighting to protect the nature as druids and name them Glup Shittos. There's also no story campaigns, they just add new customable race abilities and sometimes add a single half assed campaign map. Stellaris basically ruined the Age of Wonders brand as it's lost its own identity and flavor.
>>
>>741264550
maybe try /vst/ next time sir we don't play videogames here
>>
>>741272852
AoW4's actually pretty light in the 4x department. It would be closer to something like Heroes of Might and Magic if you've ever played any of those. Like the other anon said your enjoyment hinges a lot on the tactical combat, you can auto-resolve it and even zoom in to watch the battle if you want the hands-off Dominions experience but that works best with the gruggiest units since the AI's not great using everything well. I would guess you'd probably just want to stick with Dominions though

>>
>>741264550
I like it kinda, but the devs are going the wrong way with this, they keep adding more bloat instead of revising diplomacy and AI which is sorely needed.
It's also one of those games with a gorillion DLC which puts me off buying even just the base game because of all the content I'll be missing out on.
I'll pirate it eventually.
>>
>>741273047
>Everything being customable turned it into a very generic fantasy with no canon races
Exactly, races are just a skin, that's it. The ease of customization kinda defeats the purpose of all the choices.
Dame applies to Stellaris, every trait is a boring modifier that can be removed and added at will with genetics.

In addition to their in-house strategy games, Age of Wonders 4 is literally the only Paradox published game that prints money while rest of their publishing wing has more or less crashed and burned. Triumph Studios will be in the Paradox DLC mines for a while.

Age of Wonders 4 lore is a disaster and its story missions are complete garbage. I don't even know why are they even making them, if you steal ideas from Warlock 2 maybe you shouldn't add campaigns in the first place.
>>
>>741264550
I liked the game, but I don't know, the DLC is not interesting to me. It mostly just seems to add new spells (fine) and leader types (fine) but games like Total War or Stellaris do a better job with creating DLCs with novel mechanics or races or things that I feel like enhance the game. For the most part, the game just feels like it is adding in some more options with every DLC.

Also, I beat most of the campaign levels and I don't find random skirmishes to be satisfying like in Civ, Total War, or Stellaris.

with gog-games dead where do i get this and all it's DLC now?
>>
>>741276171
I need to try that but I heard the events are all canned and there are 'right' choices for all of them. Plus I still don't know if the dlc is worth it for a newbie or should be disabled because it generates a map for your story campaign I guess and I don't know how long a campaign takes, if it's so long it's better as a one and done or if it's like an AoW skirmish and it's just a few hours then you go again
>>
>>741292702
Grab the base game on sale sometime and play through the campaign, after that you know if you want more. DLCs do offer variety even if the map is always persistent (except if you enable random maps from one DLC). The map is still big enough that different starting locations alter the experience even if you play on that. It is all so cheap on sale it is worth it even if you don't replay it infinitely.

AoW4 is a lot closer to Dominions than the Endless games, although it contains a lot more 4X in its DNA than Dominions. I would say the real deciding factor is how much you'd like to make a fantasy character and the civilization they lead and command them to kill shit (AKA how much would you like to play fantasy Stellaris with less grand strategy and more wargame)

How good is necromancy, with mods
is it anything like dominions series where I can use actual good spells to rape the enemy outside of fights
>>
>>741297808
You can only have 6 units per army, but you can have up to 3 friendly armies in a fight so 18 units.
Anti-army strategic spells are only good as debuffs. They don’t do much damage and cost a ton of casting points.
>>
>>741298359
if you have enough magic and have some already charged you can rape enemy armies
they are helpful in situation where power isnt in your favor
>>
>>741297808
>is it anything like dominions series where I can use actual good spells to rape the enemy outside of fights
There was a time when they added a subclass of the astral civvies, that gave you a second mana reserve that you could use to instantly cast spells at a much higher cost. But there was no cast limit, so you could store secondary mana for the entire match, siege some city, throw a trillion lightning bolts the turn after the siege was done, and walk into an undefended city.
Naturally it was nerfed because "muh balans"
Other than that, spells are more like harassment than rape
>>
>>741298483
*the turn before the siege was done
>>
>>741297808
>is it anything like dominions series where I can use actual good spells to rape the enemy outside of fights
World map army target spells won't delete enemy armies for you but you can definitely tip the scales with them. If you save, for instance, a lightning torrent in reserve, then cast both the reserve and a fresh one at an enemy army, you'll do some serious damage and debuff the army's lightning resist massively. Some tomes actually rely on world map spells to work, like flameherald's consecration.

mounted and unmounted units have the same world map movement range, although floating and flying units still have an advantage and mounted units still have much more movement in combat, they changed this because all the mpfags though that non-mounted units sucked
>different damage calc
attacks now attack defense or resistance based on the attack skill's attack type tag, previously defense would only block physical damage and resistance would block everything else making resistance far superior as the game went on, now no matter what damage is being done a skill tagged melee or missile will target defense and a
skill tagged magic will target defense

Like all Paradox games it's a good time with a DLC unlocker. I kind of liked 3 having a more story focused campaign over 4's being one off, but it's really fun to customize your civ and the meta progression is a good idea.
>>
>>741315376
It's a magic fighter and it can inflict distracted on melee attackers so consider arcane focus and sneaky if you want to use them for killing, or hideous stench if you want to use them to seduce the enemy (lol)
>>
>>741316217
even if there was no pvp at all, the concept is still the same. You build up cities, level up heroes and go whack stuff. the choice boils down to which hand you will use to wank and which one to wipe your ass with. there will never be any asymmetrical balance cause there are a fuckton of factions already and doing different mechanics for them is dwarf-fortress tier task, which will set you back in development time so back, half-life 3 will be released sooner. on the other hand you cant have faction customization and gameplay variety at the same time. endless space attempted to do something like that but result was meh

>Ive heard there just isnt one in 4
Instead of a full on campaign, there's story realms, which
>sometimes follow up the story of a previous one, but many are standalone
>can be played with most factions including custom ones, only certain leaders are blocked for story reasons (like not being able to play sundren whenever she shows up in the middle of the story)
>are randomly generated, but have a very rigid RMG ruleset to the point where there's rarely any major divergence in the game flow between playthroughs
I personally enjoy them but I can see why someone wouldn't especially coming off of previous games.

when and where do I build outposts? am I supposed to be putting them next to Ancient Wonders specifically?
>>
>>741282730
Yeah, the female models are all missing some assets to really make that sword and sorcery outfit pop. Must've had some very specific budget cuts...
>>
>>741324016
From what I've noticed resources and ancient wonders tend to spawn in clusters so whenever you see one that your capital won't be able to reach in a reasonable amount of time then set one down and probably turn it into a city if you're not city capped yet. I'd probably start looking for spots from turn 1 as you're clearing things out. You can also use outposts offensively by setting them up near an enemy and putting a teleporter on the work camp extension.
>>

You can build them anywhere that isn't adjacent to another outpost or city. I recommend placing it next to a resource node or site of wonder, that way you can immediately expand into the province with the resource/wonder and for the nodes you can use them as additional research centers, magic production, or gold mine so you can use those later to make the fancy buildings that give you the real big benefits. Swapping the production of a province should be something you do fairly often to get as much out of a cities provinces as you can.

>Still no trait that lets you build one mega-city.
Come on...
>>
>>741324880
That does exist, as a realm trait though. It forces ALL players to play with exactly 1 city, but if I recall you can have any number of outposts. You can't subjugate other cities and only have the option to raze it.
>>
Also any news about future updates? This is the last DLC announced at the moment, and I really hope we'll get more. I know that Paradox only stops supporting games in very extreme cases, but still...
>>741325017
I know, and it sucks. I just really love building tall, and the Cultists from Endless Legend are probably my absolute favorite faction in the genre.
>>
>>741325263
Well initially the game only had 4 DLC planned, that sold above expectations....and we kept getting more DLC after that. So it's unlikely it will be the "last" DLC for the game. Just the last of the current batch. On the one hand, I won't turn my nose to extra shit to play with, but it only solidifies a problem the game has had since launch where all these options only further dilute any identity the cultures, races, and/or factions have when anything can be literally anything with no real limiters to it.

>Well initially the game only had 4 DLC planned
I seriously doubt that. Paradox just doesn't work that way.
>>
>>741324880
Nomads are semi-tall since they have a reduced city cap and can slurp up resource nodes. I usually stick to only my capital with them and maybe absorb a high-value enemy city at some point that I mostly ignore
You can also sort of justify building tall on other cultures now doing an Astral+Nature build with Talented Collecters with the new Astral rite that spawns a magic material in your capital and Nature capstone that increases pop cap to 45
I feel you though, Chosen Destroyers being the only TRUE single city trait since the game's launch sucks
>>
>>741295759
the unique parts are in:
>culture
>hero type
>color of books you choose
And I guess your choice of map/challenges. And there are some unique builds, but overrall you have to really try, to squeeze the uniqueness
>>
>>741325839
Paradox does, but Triumph doesn't. Their previous AoW games had at most 1 or 2 expansions and that was it. AoW4 is an oddity but it's likely Paradox really did demand they keep just producing shit for this one game specifically.

>Nomads are semi-tall since they have a reduced city cap and can slurp up resource nodes
I see. I didn't even check what that DLC added because I'm not really into nomads and those fucking rabbits lol

Wasn't there a HoMM game that literally just released into Early Access recently?
>>
>>741326225
Oh, I forgot that Paradox isn't the developer. Still, I hope they keep churning out DLCs like it's a Paradox game, because RPG/civ hybrid games like this are pretty rare these days. The only alternative is ENDLESS Legend, and I'm not really feeling it and Amplitude has always had trouble making DLCs that aren't garbage.
>>741326458
New HOMM is pretty good but it's in Early Access and is more like HOMM 5.
>>
>>741321080
The original featured twin campaigns, featuring the elves and dark elves. Both campaigns had splitting paths that would align you with various factions. It was ambitious and very well done.
Its a shame we dont see such effort put into campaign design anymore.
>>
>>741326617
Amplitude is currently having trouble not making a game that isn't shit, so that's a bit redundant right now.
>>
>>741326916
Did something happen? I played Endless Legend 2 a little when it came out in early access and thought it was okay but AOW4 is way better.
>>
>>741326539
>>741326617
I tried but it ain't it. Too soulless and unengaging. The King's Bounty Legend games were pretty good at scratching that itch though.
Disciples 2 wasn't a great game but the art style and the setting/atmosphere carried it hard. The last installment looks like some gook anime game.
>>
>>741264550
How does it compare to Planetfall?
>>
>>741327270
>Too soulless and unengaging
It's not perfect but I really can't call it soulless.
>>
>>741264550
Civlikes are not interesting. People who play this shit are fucked in the head.
>>
>>741324880
chosen destroyers merciless slavers
>>
>>741327458
The mobile game artstyle and the sloppy writting just break it for me. It doesn't have the immersive world autism of homm 3 or the amazing story and music of homm 4.
>>
>>741327270
I don't really see the soulless part. The factions all stand out with their own unique art and playstyle, the models look like a vague mix of 3D models mimicking 2D sprites, the terrain is varied but still very readable at a glance. Biggest issue I have with it is the double left click to issue commands at all, and that it sometimes issues commands I don't want when I try to select a different hero or city on the map itself and not the tooltip on the side. So the UI could still use some work.
>>
>>741327657
I guess it's a matter of taste. I've always liked Homm 5 more so maybe that has something to do with it.
>>
>>741264669
God I wish they would make a Planetfall 2
>>
>>741327773
Yeah probably, I never liked homm 5.
>>
The only good 4x ever made is the dominions series, because its designed from the ground up for multiplayer.
Playing against braindead ai is the worst and most boring thing about 4x games, and the games become rote, solved, and play exactly the same after your first couple of playthroughs.
There's no challenge or anything to discover anymore, nor will the ai even react to the cool strategies you could potentially employ.
>>
>>741327270
HoMM Olden Era's ugly, samey low contrast art style is the worst part of the game. I like the new magic sytem, like how they moved back to hex's, loved that they kept the sidegrade system from HoMM5, and like the mutually exclusive skills. But as soon as I get to the world map, I vomit. They know its bad but their solution to fix it was just to have s[acebar highlight interactables.
>>
>>741328267
I don't get how people play these games just for the multiplayer. Imo the most fun part is role-playing and trying out different races/traits and all that, even if they're not that strong, it's fun trying to make them work.
>>
>>741264550
Too expensive, thanks to shit regional pricing.

>MEGA DISCOUNT GOING ON RIGHT NOW, MY NIGGERS!!!! 50% OFF!!!
>even with a discount, it's still four times as expensive as an indie game, just as expensive as Civ VI without a discount, etc
>>
>>741264550
I got this for like 20$. Pirated all dlc. 300 hours later it's probably my favorite strategy game of the last decade. Gonna give a cult of tyranny with the new gluttonous tome+beacon for super immortals.
>>
>>741264550
let me know when they finish making the game
>>
>Click on guy
