whip was also my favorite weapon by far.
I did use the daggers for a while but i couldn't stick with them for long. Range too shit.
Hammer is cool for big meaty swings but knowing when and where to charge is too much for a first playthrough.
Shield was interesting but i didn't wanna bother learning parry timings.
I think i had the blaster equipped for a whole 5 seconds.
>>
>>741284105
I want to like the Hammer, but it's roll feels so weird to use.

The Battery Blaster is fun, but I definitely need to upgrade it's damage.

The game is just overall too easy anyway. I fixed 6 generators so I'm pretty sure I'm at the end of the game and I've been steamrolling every single boss for hours now. It's the only flaw I can find but it's a pretty big one. At least to me
>>
>>741285654
after the first generator or two you can start steamrolling. end game felt like playing action platformer more than anything. lot of people mostly complained about the difficulty at the beginning of the game.

>Game makes you stronger as you progress
You mean like how games used to be made? Silksong really did rot people's brains if they genuinely think Skong is a return to form for videogame difficulty. Videogames have never been as hard as Skong and on the rare occasion that they were, they were only 3 hours long max.
The satisfaction that I get from the braindead Skong glaze is that the prolonged stress levels that these faggots get from this game will shorten their lifespan.

>Amyway, most of the difficulty just seems to be at the beginning before you learn where everything is and start unlocking stuff.
Yeah that's true. As soon as you reach the town and grind out 1500 skulls and can get your second spark, the game basically snowballs since it's twice as easy to not lose bones anymore. And then you can very easily start buying health upgrades or boning up your defense rapidly.
>>
>>741286804
I disagreed with the poster too but I’m pretty sure he was a SHMUP autist.
>>
Does it actually do anything meaningful beyond copying very old games? Is it at least close to being an equal to the games it is copying?
>>
>>741287272
It’s more challenging than the GB Zelda games. It looks different than most soulslikes. It’s all well executed.
>>
>>741283356
It's very solid but also very underwhelming. Every area and boss had me thinking "oh, that was it? That was over quickly."
I can change the difficulty sure, but unfortunately upping the damage numbers or whatever won't change how short the levels are, and that's also assuming I wanna run through the game a second time which I don't.
I don't think it's gonna get GOTY.
>>
>>741285115
>when and where to charge
Completely unnecessary when you can roll around at the speed of sound while your hammer is charged. You can literally charge the hammer up, then zoom around to hit the boss.

>tip tapper

>>
>>741287926
The run that felt the most satisfying (and also the most stress-inducing) was the Below Zero run. It was the ultimate knowledge check and what made me realize just how intentional the design of each and every room was. They really do give you these sweet spots where you can hurt enemies without trading blows because you're so fucking fragile. I almost gave up when I got the Astral Orrery, but the more I played, the more I started finding those spots. If you ever do this brutal run yourself, here's another tip - you do NOT have to fight mutated Thorne. I was having an even harder time with him than The Congealed boss. You just run north and hit the two switches to get into the castle.

As for NG cycles, I did NG+1 and that was it. I was really hoping for something new in New Game+, but there's nothing. No new enemies or enemy placement layouts, no new boss patterns or attacks, nothing exclusive to playing a harder mode, just nothing. I was very disappointed in that aspect. I should do a run with no RPG mechanics where everything's balanced without leveling.

>>741288080
It feels like like it's becoming tradition for me at this point, it's happened with several games. I do this brutal fucking achievement, and then leave one easy one last because it feels so cathartic. I played Tiny Rogues and defeated super boss Amon at Cinder 14 for my second to last achievement. Then the last one was "With a Little Help From My Friends", where you need to have ten summons fighting alongside you, much easier.

That final boss fight in Mina took me forty attempts, I was too stunned to even celebrate. The final auto-scroller platforming segment before that took me over thirty attempts, I hate it so fucking much. That swinging mace guy, then the iron ball segment at the end where it's basically a one hit kill if you get hit and fall. I got hit and barely hung on to a tile sweating to survive.
>>
>>741288419
They patched that out, they found you could get multiple achievements that way. Same with the funny Casket weapon insta-kill on bosses.
>>
>>741283356

>>
>>741287552
Just finished the game for the first time. I was curious on a second playthrough for fun whether to do NG+ or just a fresh save with a bunch of the hard mods on, but it sounds like NG+ is only really worth doing for the achievement?

I really really enjoyed the game, though; it's definitely one of my new favorites...
Also from basically every other playthrough/comment online I read, apparently I made it way harder by using these stupid ass twin swords. They feel really good when you're back is to the wall mashing because you can't get knocked away, but so often you have a lot of trouble sticking to enemies, like another anon mentioned
>>
>>741288919
>Using filters
At that point, you're no longer "people"
>>
>>741283356
Finished the game yesterday and cannot imagine using any weapon other than the flail, swords too short range, hammer too slow, blaster and shield too finicky.
I had to look up whether or not there were alternate endings depending on how much stuff you got but apparently there's only a single alt ending if you fulfill like 50+ requirements and it's a single changed cutscene. Pass. Regardless, an incredibly fun time.
>>
>>741288919
>filtering singular threads

I just finished the game, and I wonder if the inspiration for the ending was mostly just the "hollow victory" pun. It was still fun to see what's going in the different areas, like the violence just escalating in Septemburg. The game is close to having a really nice tone by having almost shockingly dark elements despite the cute animal characters, but on the other hand, it doesn't feel like it takes itself seriously at all. It's like the devs thought any more story than a GBC Zelda game would be cringe or something. I think that makes the story miss its potential. It was still really nice to be able to save Thorne at the end, since he and Lionel are close to being pretty strong characters.
Overall I thought the game was great and well worth the wait

My complaint is Mina doesn't have much personality. Playing through I thought she had a selfish outlook at things but at the end she goes full altruism despite the villagers being pissed at her. Funny enough I think the sinless ending or some variation of it should have been the default ending and you had to work to save the island. But maybe that would have been to similar to Silksong so the devs didn't do it.

Yeah, NG+ is painless only because you can get it done in like five hours since you don't need to collect anything. Also I maintain that the worse base weapon are the swords. The night star is the most beginner friendly. The hammer's the best overall, not even a contest.
>>

The roll moves you exactly 1 tile, and also won't let you fall off ledges. If you can see the world in its actual grid format, then this makes repositioning with it very easy. It also has i-frames, but that's best used to dodge through attacks, not away.

Listen, I need Mina to become popular so that people will realize that Mouse Girls are far better than Goblin Girls.
>>
>>741320665
I figure it's obvious no? It only takes a couple weeks of casual play to beat the game, then most users would move onto another game.

If anything, the Steam stats chart needs a button to exclude primarily multiplayer-focused titles.

I genuinely don't get what people were expecting from a singleplayer game. It was anticipated enough to get good sales, but it lacked any cultural presence like Silksong did. Thats how I felt aswell. Post crypt I kinda stomped the next couple of bosses. But then I noticed the pattern and added some modifiers and it became consistently challenging again. Depends on the user's willingness to use modifiers. I don't mind adding some harder mods given the devs explicitly designed them to be used willy nilly.
>>
>>741329650
>Silksong is actually difficult
yes
I've played a wide variety of 2D platformers from just about every console gen, and Silksong is firmly in the higher tiers of difficulty, unless you're counting meme games like IWBTG.
>>
>>741329679
Difficulty sliders are shit. I shouldn't have to try and fine-tune the game to not be a faceroll.
>>

Talk to the NPCs, they explain it themselves. It was being used for researching Spark or something like that.
>>
>>741329758
I can't really argue against that and I also don't want to. You are valid to feel that way. In Mina's case I just didnt mind. It feels like a game that was actually designed with that in mind and its so easy/intuitive to do.

Unless all you use are basic attacks I'm not sure when the game is supposed to be difficult. Any fight that could present a challenge is answerable with tools and you have plenty of fodder enemies along the way to make shards a non issue.
That's without even getting into certain crest/ blue and yellow tool combinations.

>>
>>741336365
yeah, I'm not really sure what the current implementation really adds outside of backtracking or having to hit an orb at the right time
Links Awakening style equipables and unlocks would have been a massive improvement and I always enjoyed getting the upgrades as the game progressed
making the whole game accessable from the start definitely warps how dungeons and puzzles can be made mechanically unique too
still will probably be my GOTY
>>
>>
Batman got on my nerves
He was running me amok
He ridiculed me calling me a bum
>>
>>741337775
after thinking about it more, the implementation also limits synergies and puzzles where the intended solution requires combining the tools in unique ways, since you can only carry one to start
instead the game favors a number of types of problems that can often be trivialized with a single set of trinkets kinda like the square peg memes
hopefully it's something that can be refined or built on in a potential sequel
>>
Kinda hoping if there's a sequel, they just go Metroidvania with it.

nah, mina is easy to break in half, the spark vial alone is broken as fuck and you get it early. mist jar + joule syringe turns you completely invincible and even then at 10 attack 10 defense you can unga bunga every boss. i don't know what lionel's patterns are, i first tried him with the hammer.
you don't really have to try hard to find broken strats.

Yeah after the first couple of dungeons, I beat almost every boss first try. Meanwhile in Silksong I could easily spend 1-2 hours bashing my head against a single boss before beating it. The difference in difficulty is pretty fucking massive.
