NTA but it feels like a game by a completely different studio when it comes to the gameplay. Sure it is still janky at times, especially when random pieces of geometry decide to stop your movement like a wall, but overall it was very pleasant to play.

Agreed, but I fear that the game and dialogue options are just too linear. I replayed the demo a few times to try and see if questions would somehow impact gameplay (like when Morrigan asks you if you're more of a sneaky guy or someone who likes having soldiers engage in combat) but it didn't seem to have made a difference. I still enjoy the music and setting a lot thus far, obviously due to the MGS inspirations but the documents makes me think it's been well-put together so far.

The demo undersells it because of how restrictive it is. In the full game, you'd just be able to go any of the 4 directions for as long there was non-overlap left there. And there are almost no original, 3D puzzles in the demo, either. It seems like just another Sokoban because, in the current state, it is.

Schizocore games fueled by AI sloppa? I could imagine we're going to see some pretty expansive autismo-verses. This one seems like a faux-MMO or OOB simulation that looks like it was made in a combination between WORLDS, Unreal Tournament '99 and Everquest. Horrible but intriguing.

>>
I played the demo for Sojourn Past. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3244790/Sojourn_Past_Demo/ It's obviously inspired by Hyper Light Drifter and plays very similar. The graphics and animations are beautiful, but... there are some areas where the devs REALLY need to polish the game.
1. In spite of the game looking pretty, they use the basic bitch unity font in all the menus. Why? It looks so bad. There's clearly so much effort put into the appearance, but then they just use Arial? It doesn't make any sense. Unity devs need to stop doing this shit, it's the biggest "I don't care about my game" red flag to anyone looking at the game. Strangely, when you set the language to Japanese the font looks a lot better and roman characters become serif (but only in the map and not in the other menus).
2. Some things lack animations or it's too sudden. For example, the radial menu opens instantly (not even a quick fade-in or animation) and it's kind of jarring because it doesn't mesh well. The death screen is also too sudden, it cheapens dying a bit.
3. There's no combat music or change in intensity during a fight, only in bosses/arenas. It's just the same ambient or piano tinkling. Not a huge deal but kind of weird.
4. You open your menus with tab, but you can't close them with tab. You have to use escape, which is annoying.
5. No map markers. If I find a secret and want to come back to it later, I don't have a way of doing that without memorizing the location. Also, there's a bug where if you zoom in/zoom out to an area on the map then the player character icon disappears. It's just my opinion, but I also think the map menu background should be translucent (or have a subtle pattern or whatever) rather than a solid blue.
>>
File: 20260617164534_1.jpg (335 KB, 1920x1080)
335 KB JPG
>>741313186
6. There's practically no labels in the game, on the map or in your inventory. Which works in a game like Tunic where you get hints and whatnot, but it just feels incomplete here. I think it would feel like less of an issue if (again) there was an animation for going into the menus because then they would feel more integrated.
All that being said I do like the game and hope the devs fix this before release, I probably won't get the game if they don't.
>>
>>741313016
the demo didnt feel grindy at all and I think its not going to be as annoying as darkest dungeon because that game is just CBT for the sake of it

It certainly looks nice but you can barely call it a game. You platform for five seconds and then you hit a dead end with an infinite spawner of enemies that you whack with an extremely simple animation. That's it. Needs a million years in EA to become something.

Dust Front is very promising but yeah it needs some serious polish. Some of the problems;
>Camera
The obvious one. It makes for good screenshots but the camera blows massive ass when you're actually trying to play the game. Awful angle and can't be zoomed out
>Supply
A minor one but something I found very annoying. Supply depots give pathetically small increases to your supply cap so you're constantly building huge swathes of the things and you can only do it a couple at a time because of build limits. The large depots that give okayish amounts of supply cost the meta resource
>Resource fields
Deplete ridiculously quickly. I'd guess it's supposed to be balanced out by resource fields being everywhere but the only way to expand is slowly basecrawling with cranes which uses the meta resource, or using your single irreplaceable mcv which is very slow and clunky. You also can't build on resource fields and they absolutely litter the entire map. I also don't like depletable resource fields as a game mechanic in RTS but oh well

100 bucks isn't that much money to piss away into the wind.
freeware games used to go out of their way to register a domain and host a website for players to download their game from, and that's a recurring maintenance cost. I did that just fine as a teenager, anyone who's a working adult should easily be able to foot a one-time fee.

that doesn't change the fact that 100 USD isn't a lot of money unless you are unemployed or live somewhere that your currency is fucking worthless.
to a lot of desperate nodevs, the gamble of 100 dollarydoos compared to the potential to become a multi-millionaire is a bet they think they can gamble on, look at the complete dogshit like that banana game that's botted to hell and back to try to exploit the steam community market.
to someone who actually enjoys making games on a shoestring budget in what is basically a basement, money is no object. it's neither an obstacle nor a goal. but that's not the circumstances that asset flippers and sloperators are in, they just want to get lucky and get rich. Don't pay low quality games any mind.

Demos of upcoming games. When a game enters Early Access, my assumption is that it will be there for years because half the time EA is just used as an overly extended beta period so they can milk money early. Plus it's going to be balanced "by committee" rather than by the devs themselves, which for an RPG could be a fucking death knell.
Either way, I just don't have a strong opinion of Early Access.

Cute girls slapping each other with magic cards. It looks like a deckbuilder but it feels more like a rhythm game.
Attacks have various modifiers and using a set amount of specific elemental spells gives you strong buffs, so I assume harder content will demand proper attack combos (I hope so, at least).
Play it if you like flashy attack effects and/or butt physics.

AI slop but gave it a change anyway and it was good but at times tedious. It mixes all mechanics from other jrps like body parts from F&H, press turns and a flaw system where you do a strong free attack if you meet some requisite against the enemy, like using electric damage in the mechanical parts. Losing everything when you die because this is an extraction JRPG, you can load the game anyway. Some super strong enemies that blocks random paths and can't passs them in anyway are a pain in the ass. Wish the game had a better translation, the AI the dev used suck at it.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4145130/ORPHEUS_TO_HELL_AND_BACK/
So yeah it was a game, stiff controls, puzzle game, attract, repel or stun enemies with your music. It was short and so boringly easy that I can't say if it is good or bad, it was a tutorial dressed as a demo. the boss was junky.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4358660/Hull_Rupture/
It was hard as balls or maybe I am stupid. This game is a resource management more than a tower defense, you have to make guys to control the ship which make energy to make rooms which turn energy into steel then make the steel into something else and bla bla. Should have go slower so I won't have wasted so much biofuel. Good game.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4029380/Pathogenic_Demo/
It was good, it has a curious equipment system where the nodes are connected to some parts so you have to be mindful with which weapon you want to get which upgrade and what take the center. there was a good range of weapons, swords, slow clords, flamethrower ect. It was good if you like those kind of roguelites

Okay thoughts on the shit I've played so far:
>Demon's Reign
Art is good, Combat is so early you don't really get a feel for how it will play because it's basically impossible to lose if you recognize it's a Black Souls clone and know how dodge works in Black Souls. On that note, the game is way too derivative of both Black Souls and Demon's Souls.
>SAO slop
strangely similar sentiment to the last game but it's a very derivative souls game. I only did the first mission of the demo because you just run through empty cooridors and fight the same 3 enemies and pick up rocks and when you get to a boss it has like no HP.
>Entropy
Weird take on party-based RPG combat focused on party formations and managing hired mercenaries. It's fine, I don't feel like I really got the full taste of the system from the demo but it seems like it can get very complex and autistic. The default graphics settings have a bunch of faux-retro stuff enabled like a crt filter and excessive dithering effect that makes the game look like sludge. There's also some deranged fantasy third gender shit which I don't really care about but I know will annoy many. The best part about this game are the monster designs they're really cool.
>GrimDelve
complete dogshit. I've been following the dev's progress and this is basically like a weird normie take on LonaRPG & BS I'm not even joking. It's RPGM but there's no combat there's some stealth and there's some puzzles that have multiple solutions based on your character traits but other than that it's a weird edgy walking sim.
>Nimaat
I'm on board with the concept but this game is extremely buggy right now. There's weird stretched text everywhere, controller doesn't work and sometimes it shows controller prompts when using keyboard anyway. Dev is an ESL and it shows, keyboard controls are terrible. The rotoscoped animations are nice but seem goofy in a supposed horror game. I'm keeping an eye on this one but so far it's meh (also the main character is hot).
>>
>>741328274
If you advance far enough Bautista updates the compiler to automatically translate base-8 to base-10 so that gets easier
>>
>>741328237
eerie unsettling horror, for the most part.
there were a few "jumpscare" moments, the worst one being during the opening sequence, but the others require you to ignore the warnings the game gives you. I had to watch a youtube video to see them because I didn't trigger any during my playthrough.
Some secrets buried in the demo you can leave the "intended path" in the car park area
>>
>>741328281
>Order of the sinking star
I actually haven't played any of Blow's other games but I quite liked this. It's probably the most polished sokoban I've played. It's honestly refreshing that even a couple hours in the game hasn't thrown any real ball-busters, like Baba gets hard as balls pretty quick IMO.
>Enderfield
everything about this game is good, art was good, combat was good. I really like the Junji Ito inspiration but unfortunately I cannot stand farming sims so I probably won't play the full game.

Gossamer Matrix seemed clearly inspired by Cruelty Squad so I thought they would be similar experiences, where a talented dev makes something that seems like shit on purpose but you realize there's actually a lot of work put into it. But no, Gossamer Matrix is just kind of shit. There's no level design or thought put into the encounters. The shooting is awful. There's no interesting art. >can't really judge this because I can't get any lobby matches and the CPU is too braindead to really feel like I'm trying anything
I'm a shitter at fighting games but it seems alright for a "simple" fighter. Never played the OG game but this is like
>a button is normal/specials with cardinal direction inputs changing how it works
>b is metered specials, same rule of different attacks coming from directional inputs like forward special button
>c a one button super
>airdasher with spot dodge
>characters available are some shoto equivalent guy, a person who uses stacks to use boosted versions of his standard normal/a button attacks and a setplay character who creates nodes to detonate, move around or zip between
You can still do combos, the game has a combo trial in it and generally explains the character's gimmicks with specific trials. I think that the setplay character's the most fun to mess around with (Yo-Yona) because the angle of her yoyo nodes can affect the direction for the opponent when they get launched by the yoyo set detonation
Demo got promoted in my next fest queues but the game's demo was out since Apr.

I passed over this at least twice while looking through demos, almost entirely because of the art style and it from the surface looking like a trackmania clone. Another anon mentioned it played solid so I gave it another try.

It IS a trackmania clone, at the basic level. With the addition of, analog input for gas and brake, manual with clutch, and a boost bar that is filled through skill.
I'm usually not a fan of using a clutch + shifting on a controller but I got a handle on this system very quickly and you can slam shifts real quick. It became very satisfying very quick. Rev match downshifting during chained drifts can get pretty hectic for the hands though.
Personally, I could do without the boost mechanic and more of a pure focus on vehicle control instead of trying to game out when the best use of boost is. The overall vehicle handling characteristics felt extremely solid as well.
Got at least god times on about half the available times in an hour before my hands started getting tired. There were also some test maps showing the dev experimenting with a traffic filled highway and rally environments.
Vid related ended up being a top 8 time worldwide, could for sure clean it up by a few seconds without the wallride and starting the lap with a boost which I didn't do.

I'm confused on why they made such a big deal about it being made by the DN devs when the thing DN did right was the combat. The combat in this game is somehow more basic than blue protocol. Very disappointing, yet I'm not surprised. It seems like korea has forgotten how to make anything that isn't standardized.

>Empulse
Blatant Titanfall 2 clone. As a old /tfg/ man this hits pretty well (though needs some polish, sometimes I just randomly stop while slidehopping) and the paint gimmick is neat. However, the weapons look like they're all hitscan and you're forced to play as a REDACTED until level 44 where you unlock the white man, which instantly disqualifies this as potentially being good. While writing this I realized this is coming from the splitgate devs, which is probably also a huge red flag.
>Echos of Aincrad
combat is alright, map design is atrocious. Tries to be open world but is also insanely restrictive on where you can go if you try to walk anywhere but the paths. Everything either has high walls you can't climb, areas you can't drop down to because of the PATHETIC fall height, or actual invisible walls. I gave up after coming across a bridge that was blocked because "outside the mission area", despite LITERALLY going towards the objective and instead you have to take an extremely long path around. Also death game mode being locked out if you transfer your save to the full game sucks.
>Iron Nest
Pretty cool sim of controlling this giant fucking thing. I think this would be much better in VR, though the dev's already stated a big MAYBE if he ever figures out VR dev (gl with that). The angle controls being calculated automatically feels a little sour though, feels like something you should have to do yourself. Wishlisted

I think spiritvale has three main issues
>solo dev using commissioned/unity assets, so some people are bouncing off the artstyle
>grindy as fuck with no handholding, you're effectively plopped into the game and told "go explore" because it's a spiritual successor to RO despite the game having some pretty lenient QoL (hard pity for every standard gear drop, easy access to boss spawn items to name a few)
>the game is nowhere near complete, it's going to enter early access in july because it isn't a full release. it's currently version 0.20.4 with a fairly large roadmap (e.g. several more maps, tripling the amount of advanced classes so every class has three choices, guilds + guild wars, lifeskills, etc.)
I think it's pretty fun and I've grinded the fuck out of it, but I wouldn't recommend the game to most people and I fully expect a lot of people trying the demo to bounce off. Even the most autistic anons might drop it within an hour instead of grinding enough to get to their advanced class.
Despite that, I can see it doing pretty well; the Kickstarter is successful and the guy has been consistently updating the public playtest for over a year now, so it's pretty unlikely that he'll fuck off and run.
>>
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4674010/TORR/
Basic ass rpg from NES, even with the lack of qol, text move slow and you can't skip it, it yaps for everything, check ground because a spot looks weird? 2 slow square of text, learn a magic and slowly explain you need to go to an altar. The game looks interesting but I am too zoomer for this shit.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4332880/Blades__Battles_Demo/
It was an efficient beat em'up, controls well, collisions work how they are supposed to work and is responsive, only hope the armored enemies won't become too annoying like the blue minotaur. but more importantly YOU FUCKING NIGGER WHY DON'T LET ME PLAY CO-OP IN THE DEMO!?

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3948110/Hashire_HEBEREKE_EX/
Is a running game, kind of like Mario Kart but with no wheels, only two levels that are quite simple. It comes with the original too which I can't access to in the demo. fun game I suppose, maybe emulate the original to know what this like better as the track gets more gimmicks and shit.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2531040/Rune_Golf/
So a chill precission platformer? is golf, you ahve limited shots before the hole closes, secret paths with lore and npc that say things. It was good, game needs patient as you get few shots. atmosphere is chill, looks nice and the demo has 10 levels. Good demo.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4107750/Shutter_Story_Demo/
It was pretty good, is fun to see ghost and most likely how messed up the family is.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4323990/EMPULSE/
Like some another said, Titanfall. It was good, a shame it lacks melee and instead has an insta kill hammer. It lacks a bit of mobility and doesn't feel as smooth as TF2 but to be fair, TF2 is godlike. yes good game and like the matches idea like stealing mechs and hold-the-ball.
>>
>>741335898
I didn't get to the second class, but only because the players were saying there's going to be a server wipe for the start of early access. I'd hate to burn out before the game even releases.
>>
>>741336079
Yeah, that's another factor. The server wiping kind of doubles down on the grind problem. If the EA period weren't so close to the demo period, some people might grind harder, but July 15th is close enough that people might not recharge after burning out.
The common trend I'm seeing is that people are playing for a few hours or so to get a feel for the game, maybe grinding enough to hit 2nd class and gain a few job levels so they can decide if their future main is satisfying to play as.

I wish I could have faith and believe Iron Nest is gonna have the improvements it needs on launch.
IIRC its a 2 man ESL dev team aiming for an august release.
Elevation doesn't do anything except act as a distance slider, an elevation of 0 will have the shell land directly under the nest.
Somehow its coded poorly enough that changing the max elevation would be a massive undertaking according to the devs.
The steam page description is AI written, which is forgivable because the devs are very ESL but I don't trust devs who can't cobble together enough english to write a steam description.
As others have pointed out here and in /indie/ the missions are very simple and don't require much more than baby's first triangulation followed by burning time rotating/elevating. You're only required to work quickly once and its trivial if you just plan it all out before firing your first shot.

God I hope PVKK fulfills all my autistic wishes. Every delay makes me think its trapped in development hell, but I'll pretend that it just needs that long to be good. They really would have benefited from shipping a demo though, we know they already have one because they did that physical setup demo at some show.
>>
>>741337674
My thoughts exactly. The ballistics calculator and the automatic measurements on the table just make it far too easy. Combined with the free recon photos every time you launch a shell or the scout plane, it is trivial to pinpoint every enemy on the map

Kind of disappointed by Brekekekex. The enemies feel super over-tuned with the amount of i-frames they get on their dodges/attacks/recovery (that they input read hard with) compared to you. It just feels really unbalanced and unfair for how tight everything else is. I basically had to cheese Blem with grab spam because trying to play around with any of your other options (mixing up vertical/horizontals; doesn't matter at all they input read it, tanking and punishing attacks; depletes your block bar fast) just opens you up to a ridiculous 100-0 combo he can juggle you in if you've run out of blue bar for the panic recovery move. Just now. Blitzed through it again just for you. But here's footage from two days ago when I first saw it getting mentioned it in the threads. Steam's background recording managed to keep it. Sloppier and almost died, but I killed it faster. The enemies gleefully waste their stamina on the dodges to reposition and on attacks that end up missing, and they have an extremely slow turn rate so they're never able to recover stamina properly and staying behind them is easy.

I like it when games are horny without going 18+, but Kotamon is clearly a case of the devs using the art as an excuse to half ass (or more like quarter ass) everything else. Even by incremental standards there's fuck all to do and the characters cease existing after the intro

They don't input read though. Their AI is easy to cheese once you have a solid grasp on your moveset and combo capabilities. What feels unfair are the differences in hitboxes/hurtboxes. The frog vs frog fight was unfun bullshit. I could try to use the tongue attack and it would never target CLEM in the air but he could combo me with it when I tried aerial approach. That's what the demo button initially looked like in steam's early days. When a dev is on the publishing form on steam, it will default to that button if it's a demo. If you want the new big ass green button like nowadays, you have to tick a checkbox on the publishing form. Think of it as a way to "filter" low effort devs who can't read.

Not a bad game, but it feels a lot like a game purely designed to teach you sql for dummies. Which is fine because I don't know sql, but it'd probably be annoying if you did.

The mission briefing audios go on for way too long and I really hope they didn't pay for them and its just a friend/the developer doing them.

Despite looking like old Zelda it locks you in a bunch of hallways immediately without a sword, demands platforming but the jump button is also the dodge button so you have to double press every time, I got stuck inside walls a couple times, if you die you respawn in place but the enemies aren't gone so they just kill you over and over until you get lucky on the timing and run away, the only reward for exploration so far is lore dumps I don't care about, it's generally just a buggy mess that is withholding any possible fun for some eason. It needs to drop the shitty castle intro sequence and let players run around in the open for a while first.

I loved the first game, but the second game so far feels... unfinished in many ways. Optimized like shit, for a start, the menus are even more complicated than the first game, skills that don't appear in your skill page but appear when you click on a hotbar slot and assign them, and these are all without leaving the open beta's starting town because the moment I went outside, it tanked to 15 fps. I hold the first game on high regard for what it was, but can't say I feel any form of hype for the second game with what I've seen so far.

Seems like another Luftrausers clone. The abilities and inputs feel a bit limited, you can't change direction on a dime and the boost is a bit weak, the maps also feel small and cramped and the enemies slow and stupid, while also spongy. The upgrades are good though, they feel substantial. Some mission rewards are leagues above the rest, making choices too obvious. Mission design is varied and interesting, but could be snappier. The objectives are a tad drawn out. Style is OK but feels unpolished. At least the loading is snappy. Hard to say it needs more time in the oven after six years, so it's probably just not for me. Removed from wishlist, might pick up on a sale.

I hadn't tried that one

When they call it the "Edge of" series I knew it would be "Tales of" inspired

Tried it, this was barely past the concept stage and it ran like complete shit. I don't have high hopes with it releasing in a month

That's so weird, I wasn't ever able to get clem or the last frog to do that turning animation they get stuck in. Whenever I'd knock them down they'd immediately try to hit me with the wake up neutral air lmb or backflip away while instantly pivoting towards my direction. Never seen him jump away from me into a belly flop after knocking him down. You're definitely just better though

I've got a few.
>Deep Snow Delivery
Death Stranding, but in a tank and there's literally nothing happening at all between stops. Slow, monotonousness, and does very little to try and keep you engaged.
>Dr. Finklestein's Marvelous Room
Just a shitpost game / walking simulator. Apparently 50 people submitted ideas for objects for you to spawn into the Marvelous Room and they each have a bit. I suppose it'll be less of a game and more of a community art project. It was fine.
>VHOLUME
Simplified and faster Mirror's Edge parkour in brutalist megastructures. Just parkour and nothing else. It was pretty fun.

ain't this from the last fest

Why does everything have to be "dark fantasy?" Why can't we have regular fantasy too?

Meant to include that I was indeed making sure to position behind them while they were knocked down duhh I'm dumb. Anyway loved the game and I can't wait to see more, I hope the other characters are cooler than the spear guy and the frogs.

Deep Snow Delivery is a niche game. You should know if you'll like it or not from the trailer alone. You missed the entire gameplay despite playing it yourself. Traversing difficulty terrain in a blizzard while keeping your cargo from falling out is fun.

it's Dark Souls actually

As much as I fucking hate the HLD devs now for selling out and being complete soulless bitches that immediatelly started being garbage after getting some money. HLD is special, you can't replicate that sort of game easily

cheers to the anon who mentioned otterly lost, incredibly cute game!
