>Remember when Aonuma said being lost is a good thing when referring to BotW>MM3DS>Completely reneged on every he said and shat on the old Zelda'sI'm seething
Holy shit...now that I think about it...I think you're right, when people say "Ocarina of Time is one of the most influential games ever" I always wonder wtf they're talking about? Because I can't think of many games that play like Zelda unless you reduce it to its most surface level aspects like fantasy adventure (can also mention z targeting, but this is so overrated because literally only like 2 games use it, and it's not even that impressive since Tomb Raider had lock on before, but you couldn't automatically strafe, so it wasn't baby tier, so literally the ONLY reason Z targeting gets credit is for...making lock on baby mode and easing the mental stack of orienting yourself, which feeds into your point about "casualization")But if I look at it divorced from its actual gameplay...then you're right, the progression, the handholding, the shops, minigames...ease of navigating the world and overworld...it's just a very SIMPLE and standard game, it's incredibly straightforward and easy to play and has a lot of charm. And when you see the trends of modern games making sure gameplay doesn't take too long to wear you out, or shoving tutorials in your face ever second, the focus on cinematics and presentation...straight forward "exploration" that "epic" sort of progression from weak young boy to big strong man...it's all there in modern games, just not literally in regards to the last one. It's all easy to understand above all.Holy fuck, how much seethe would /v/ have if you told them that modern gaming is OoT's fault?

>>741320069OOT has a map though? It's very minimalistic but it sure has one
>>741319380>>741319743It "set the standard" by having Nintendo meme force the standard, just like Sony and Marathon but it worked because they had memegameman behind the scenes(he was doing the least amount of labor of the over 100 people who worked on it. And they had to because it was n64 and no other dev cared (you know except the 2nd party dev who heavily influenced it being a cartridge system in the first place). They made/co developed 20 games (12-13if we're not counting the classic recycled mario bullshit).
>>741319380I'll say there's a general progression trend in games to have more tutorials and moviegaming. You observe it in rpg attack animations (like in that webm), for example. But it applies anywhere. The SNES or handheld game is quicker and has short tutorials. The PS1/N64(Oot) starts having a medium but worrying amount. RPGs have longer attack animation (moviegaming). Some of the stuff after that is just ridiculous.

It would make any zoomer or nintendo player crazy and annoyed by just not having something on the screen to guide them.

Fi was a 1000 time worse than Navi, but people forgive her because they want to fuck her.
The problems with Ocarina, aside from the obvious technical issues (20 fps isn't suitable for video games, it never was, and they knew that back then), are that the pure gameplay is very, very weak.By "pure gameplay," I mean the things you're actively solving through your interaction with the game. That is: combat, puzzles, and so on.Where the game really shines is in its atmosphere. It's relatively immersive, and it has an epic tone that comes through in every cutscene.Kids back then didn't care much that the game was unbalanced and that the pure gameplay lacked depth. They were impressed by the epic feel and the cutscenes, especially those who didn't have access to better games on PCs or PlayStation.

>>741333438I'm also seeing a lot of zoomers recently shitting on the classic GoW games' use of fixed/specific camera angles that aid the cinematic nature of the game and emphasize the grand scale of the journey/enemies that Kratos faces. They want cinematic games but don't want cinematic elements, and they drape it in this extremely smug, obnoxious pretense of "going back to basics" in game design ("appeal to retro/arcade design", if you will). They do the same kind of thing with pretending BotW is a revival of Zelda 1 that cuts out the "fluff" of the prior 3D Zelda games. The truth is, they falsely conflate their demand for constant dopamine and instant gratification with the simplicity of much older games to give their spoiled appetites authority by rooting them in dishonest claims of seniority.

>>741337393All of those things only happen a handful of times PER DUNGEON, the fuck have you done to your attention span if that's enough to make you seethe like this?
>>741336354not doing this until the ports allow it
>>741321267>tutorials are only the starting section of the gamemeanwhile, every chest with bombs will come with a multi-part text box that tells you how to use bombs. you're fucking retarded to not understand what op meant.
You know what would be cool? If the OOT remake had a built in randomizer. Not that I expect Nintendo to put that level of effort in, and chances are I'd probably still prefer the fan version. And it would be even more cool if you had the option to switch between the master quest versions of each dungeon.
>>741337220>>741337768Please fix your aspect ratio, how are you this involved in randomizer autism without even having set up your emulator properly?
>>741337569...text boxes that are very quickly dismissed with a couple button presses. You're not seriously comparing that to in-game tutorials, are you?
>>741337849You know, I never fiddled with the Aspect Ratio too much. Came from an era where it was a miracle if the damn emulator even booted. What would you recommend?
>>741329356>millenials prop up some mid moviegames for decades as "the best game ever made" without ever questioning it>people apply any kind of scrutiny like they would for any other game and realize how insanely overrated it is and how it influenced gaming for the worse>"uhh you're deranged"

>>741338757Link... Link... LINK... HEAD TO THE TOWER MARKED ON YOUR SHEIKAH SLATE.
>>741337768>If the OOT remake had a built in randomizer. It won't and you're actively being retarded by thinking to ask for this. Nintendo have no reason to add general randomization. That's exclusively shit for obsessed fans who already know how to 100% the game inside and out and want the cheapest way of getting 'unlimited replay value' out of the game, no matter how much if fucks up the integrity of the design.Nintendo may add add a 'Second Quest' type scenario for veterans, that goes beyond Master Quest, and certain aspects might be mixed up or even made somewhat random there, but the weird shit that puts major, and even plot significant, items in some hole in the ground arbitrarily is a no go.
>>741338809>the cheapest way of getting 'unlimited replay value' out of the gameyeah that'd be a really fucking stupid way to design a Zelda game
>>741314268>the second OoT Remake is announced Microsoft jeet shills start hate thread after hate threadMust be a coincidence.
Why is this guy emulating instead of playing the decomp????
>>741338809>cheapest way of getting 'unlimited replay value' out of the gameI think it's a fun addition, even if nintendo disagrees.
>>741339019Decomp IIRC doesn't include the combination MM/OOT randomizer. I know it has its own rando, but i've been craving a combo of the two.
>>741338963This isn't Microsoft jeet shills. This call is coming from inside the house (i.e. BotWfags and BotWfags larping as Z1fags).
>>741314268Ai post? You clearly have no idea of what you are barking about there.
it's an epic adventure where I got to play as a 10 year old like myself and escape from reality
>>741339320>as a 10 year old like myselfANON, NO!
>>741339320Oh no.
>>741338809True, randomizing items is a feature of roguelikes. You are very unlikely to see it in any deliberately made game. Dk Bananza has a roguelike mode though.
>>741339526>True, randomizing items is a feature of roguelikesIt's not even out of the question that OoT might end up having something like that, especially since 'dungeon generation' was a feature that was under discussion during the original game's development. But 'whacking a skultula gives you the master sword' tier shit is not happening in a million years.
>>741339751Well I guarantee they are going to sell Master Quest as DLC, but I can meet you in the middle and wonder if that might look like a roguelike this time.
>>741339751>But 'whacking a skultula gives you the master sword' tier shit is not happening in a million years. That I can understand. SKulltulas sharing the item pool is always disabled in my runs.
I've always been tired of tendies and their retarded "b-but Zelda and Mario changed everything!!" memes.
