I like the early hours of TP (after you're done running errands in Ordon) and I really like it between Midna's Lament and finishing Arbiter's Grounds.

But the rest is a mixed bag and it's the first Zelda I played where the story really collapses under its own weight.

Nah. There's a purity and perfectness to its story and how it's delivered that TP doesn't even come close to. LA, MM and Wind Waker are all in the same tier as OoT, and you can debate some of them being better than it, but TP is not in that league of Zelda game. TP was the beginning of 3D Zelda not being very good IMO.
