What was your first game console? No, Brick Game 9999 in 1 doesn't count.
>>741329394I don't remember
>>741329394OG gameboy. 1991. I still have it too.
NES
>>741329394Atari 2600 I'm not that fucking old, got one as a hand me down from a family friend shortly before getting a GBC
>>741329674Sure grandpa.
NES and SNES my dad owned. 64 was my first console I got that was explicitly mine
>>741329394A black Play it Loud! Gameboy. My younger brother got a SNES the Christmas before, I played that a decent amount too.
>>741329394NES
>>741329394This count?
>>741329394ColecoVision
>>741329394does the digimon game count?
>>741329394PS2. But the first one I could call my own? The DS.
>>741329394i could give a couple of different answers. my family *tells* me i used to try and play the atari when i was a baby. but i can't remember that at all obviously, so i personally don't count it. the family did own an NES and two different sega genesises but they weren't exactly mine. the first console i owned that actually belonged to me personally was a ps1 which i got for christmas.
>>741329394N64
Famicon
i guess if handhelds can count as consoles, I guess i will go with avengers pinball machine.
>>741329394The NES
Anyone wish consoles were simpler like back then?
>>741329973Play It Loud-era Nintendo was a weird time that produced some of the best games and the worst advertisements. This is why I don't believe that "EarthBound failed due to its marketing" when every game had the same sort of noxious, unappealing marketing.
>>741329394Never owned a console, my family had a PC since the early 90's.
>>741329394Atari 2600.
Snes
>>741329394IIRC, my console history went like:FamicomMega DriveGameboy PocketGameboy Advanceanother FamicomDSi3DSSwitch
>>741329394Bootleg NES. Played a lot of SMB, Contra, a Tiny Toons game, a Power Rangers game that was incredibly fun and Lode Runner. Those were the times.
>>741329394i used to play brick game 9999my first actual console was the gameboy color
>>741329394Second hand NES.
>>741329394PS1, circa 2000. It got stolen, thankfully with only about three games, I got another one, then I played that one until it broke and replaced it with a slim PS2 in 2005.
Born in 1992, got one of these see through gameboys some time between 1996 and 1999 (I definitely already had it for a while when pokemon blue came out in my country)The only game I had for it (until pokemon blue) was Solar Striker, a very simple SHMUP with great music
>>741333963Earthbound's marketing was a little bit, uh, out there even for that, they were really playing up the boogers and puke and B.O. and stuff. Between that and the "THIS GAME... IS FUCKING DOG SHIT" tag-line, it was grossly inappropriate for the game it actually was.
>>741329394With the floppy drive because>Implying I'm going to buy video games
>>741335296Well, that and the game itself just didn't look all that impressive; delays made it look super outdated by summer 1995 when you compared it with stuff like Chrono Trigger or FFVI.Yoshi's Island's U.S. commercial was completely disgusting but the game did okay on a sales standpoint and it was one of the best-looking SNES games. (It also benefitted from Mario). It's possible that better marketing would've saved it but that's still a lot of cope for what it was and doesn't take into account similar titles.
It was a Gameboy Pocket. It used only two AAA batteries compared to the four AA in a regular Gameboy. I remember how quickly the pile of used batteries grew. I had no idea what an AC adapter was at the time.
>>741335653Me and both my sisters had our own gameboys and our parents would buy these big brick sized packs of cheap AA batteries from the department store and we'd chew through them in like two weeks
A computer running dos. We didn't know what Microsoft Windows was yet, so we just had dos on the computer and played games that came on floppy disks. Then we got an NES (which was already an old system when we got it).
>>741331619Same, I was 3 years old playing Mario kart with my brothers
>>741329394The NES. Specifically I had the bundle that came with Mario/Duck Hunt, and the orange Zapper.
>>741329394My parents had a Super Nintendo when I was born, and I got a Game Boy Pocket and later a Game Boy Color in the late 90s
>>741335296Got me to ask my parents for it, so it worked for some people. I think the real answer to why it didn't sell was because it wasn't widely distributed, and RPGs were kind of niche and most people were sticking to RPGs from Squaresoft.
>>741329394Yes im old
i was super poorfag playing pirated commodore 64 games from floppies at the same time most kids were already experiencing 3D n64/ps1 games
>>741329394N64 or Gameboy Colour.
>>741329394a fake nes, it had maybe one hundred games inside and the pistol
>>741329394NES or SNES, was too young to remember which one. They belonged to my brothers who are 5 & 7 years older.
NES but I had a bunch of different Game & Watch games and others before it and played some C64 games at a friend's home.
>>741329394PS2I'm 26
>>741329394Family wise, picrel. But my very own console was the original Gameboy
vcs2600 that my father found in a pile people put at the curb, we were immigrants with 0 money. I got a NES at release and than a PC in 1988-now.
>>741338347Yeah even then Square unironically had difficulties trying to sell FF4 in the west which underperformed FF1.It was only really Super Mario RPG that was a mainstream hit in the west that gen.
>>741329394First console was an Atari 2600. First PC was a C64.
>>741329394a sega master system that we found on the side of the road on a council cleanup in 1997-8
>>741329394atari jaguar :(with rayman and doom and super burnout, they were fun games at least, even if the first two were inferior ports.
>>741329394This god damn thing. We upgraded to a NES a while later.
Since the iMac G3 doesn't count as a console...
>>741329394First ever? NES, probably. Apparently I put pennies into it and fried it. No clue what games we had, all I know is that my dad mentions that NES like once every 5 years or so.First I can actually remember is the Sega Genesis + all the attachments (& Knuckles), or the original Game Boy, which I still had until recently (it was FUCKED. Melted, corroded, missing bits, etc.)First I fully remember clearly dumping tons of hours into is easily the SNES. We all played that shit into the ground, all the big hits too, some rented, some bought, most were used.
>>741329394sega mega drive, got a snes shortly after no idea why
>>741345084Wow go figure, the exact same thing.Eventually we got a Mega Drive but the Master System was still played just as much.
>>741329394The Mega Drive when I was 8. I actually wanted the SNES to play DKC, but it was sold out so my parents bought me that instead. It was the Sonic 3D Flickies' Island bundle, lol. The following year I also got my SNES.This for home consoles, I honesty don't remember if I got the Game Boy before or after.
>>741329394one of my first memories is playing zelda 1 with my mom on NES, probably would have been when i was about 4 in 1994. the first system that belonged to me rather than the family was my gameboy, though, that probably would have been a year or two later.
>>741329394How do you do, fellow kids?
Seems like it was the NES for most anons. I didn't have one myself, but I had played Famicom a few times at my friends' houses.
The second guy my mom was fucking had an Atari 5200 and I played on that whenever he would let me. Loved Dig Dug.The first console to call my own was a Super Nintendo I got when I was 8, or around 8, for my birthday, the Super Set edition with Mario All Stars and Super Mario World (separate carts). So much has changed since then. I've changed. Gaming's changed. Remember buying games and holding them that shit was wild. Couldn't even ride a bike now if I wanted too with how fucked my back is after surgery. I miss Alyssa and Charlie and that Chinese kid I couldn't understand but he was a real one anyway.Wish I could go back.
with tons of pirated cassettes
>>741349721>Seems like it was the NES for most anons.Puts into perspective how old people here are. I'm 38 and I only played NES at at an older relative's house when I was 4 or 5 and he was 5 years older.
>>741350041but my first proper console(cause the C64 was a pc) was the Sega Master System
>>741349940>Wish I could go back.We all do.
>>741329394Anyone who doesn't started with the Atari 2600 and kept going forward doesn't know shit about video games.
