What remakes are actually good and mostly replace the original? The Ys book 1 and 2 remakes on psp and pc are probably the best versions of the game
>>
>>741330249
DQ1+2 on SNES
>>
Ys Oath in Felghana. Also Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
>>
How is Chrono Trigger DS vs SNES?
>>
RE1 maybe? i only played the remake but it seemed good kek
>>
>>741330708
It's remarkable, but not comprehensive. The original has a different enough tone to be its own experience, plus it lacks defense items as a mechanic. I'd say play both.
>>
>>741330662
Not really a huge difference. There's a new translation and two optional dungeons but the new dungeon is a weird tie-in with Chrono Cross that mostly reuses assets and the other one is a weird side quest with the dinosaurs. It's graphically almost the same as the snes version.
>>
Zero Mission
FRLG
HGSS
Binding of Isaac
2nding Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
>>

Flash Isaac is superior in the only thing that matters, fun. I'd rather pink screen in Womb 2 for the 40th time than deal with half the shit introduced in Rebirth.

Just about every version of Ys 1 and 2 mogs the original PC 88 version.
The best one still has to be the one for the turbografx/PC engine though. It has the best music, gorgeous animated cutscenes, and it even combines both games into one smooth experience. I like it better than Chronicles even if both are very good.

DQ3 SNES too. Beautiful engine and enemy animations
>>

>Ys Oath in Felghana
It doesn't "replace" the original, it's an entirely new game that roughly follows the same story as the original.
>>
>>741330249
Ys 1+2 remake is definitely better than the original, but the turbografx remake, not the windows/psp one
>>
>>741330249
Wrong. The remake in your image is the best version of Ys 1 and 2. The PC remake is a demake. Bloated trash with worse combat.
>>
>>741333205
what the difference
>>
>>741334318
turbografx is the original game but with better visuals, music and more than 5fps
chronicles is like a complete remake with a changed world map and some mechanical changes that i think hurts the game overall. like 8 directional movement for example, completely destroys the bump combat because diagonal movement is too op and you can also just stunlock enemies against the walls. the new map feels too bloated compared to the original. it tries to have a more focus on the story and characters for some reason without adding anything of substance so it feels like a waste of time
it does have its pros, i think chronicles is also a good game, but it's different enough that i think both are worth playing and playing the turbografx version first is a better choice

I would disagree, they play differently enough to where there's space for both PCE-CD and Chronicles+. I do like both, however. Otherwise, it's really hard to pick a game where the remake is truly a straight upgrade to the original game, but I do have one: Revival Xanadu. Take the original game, use a similar color scheme but updated art style, and expand the decent but limited soundtrack into a much bigger and beautiful soundtrack, even touching old tracks up to sound a bit nicer. It's truly how it should be done.

I love the SNES remakes of DQ1-3, but you could make the argument that the originals are better if you specifically want a harder experience. Personally I mostly agree and just wish DQ3 SNES got a hard mode patch because it's one of my favorite games ever, and just want it but harder. Same for SMT1, actually.
>>741331382
Now granted I've barely touched Flash Isaac, but are you saying the new stuff makes it too easy or too hard/annoying? I've found Repentance has only gotten easier over time from a combination of getting better and patches, personally.
t. has Dead God (not particularly impressive but hey, I put the time in).
>>741330538
...I kinda have a soft spot for Wanderers of Ys but it is kind of a shitty game so I get where you're coming from. Oath is pretty sick.

Alter Code F is basically Wild Arms 1 but more
Great game, the ending song always brings tears to my eyes.

I heard some anons shitting hard on Alter Code F, you're telling me it's good? I was going to play it eventually, mind you.
>>
The Trails in the Sky remake replaces the original completely.

Twials of Mana is a miracle. It's a great remake that doesn't replace the original, it plays so differently while being the same game we now have two good versions of it to alternate between.

It's a shame the demake censored Angela's special move where she fully exposes her bare naked ass to taunt the enemy. Would've loved to see it in 3D.
>>

I just finished Felghana, I liked it but it felt like despite the 3d engine they were afraid of departing from its sidescroller roots. Half the levels were 2.5d hallways with no (physical) depth, but admittedly with good verticality. Only the lava zone and castle were proper 3d levels.
