Will Death Stranding 2 be remembered for decades?
>>
Probably not it was pretty forgettable. Felt like dlc for the first game. I have no idea how it took 6 years to make
>>
I didn't buy it because I hate vtumors.

Like it or not, Death Stranding is one of the best games from our current gen. To me Kojima and Death Stranding embody what videogame development should be all about. Trying new things to bring an interactive story with interesting gameplay, throwing conventions out of the window by letting your creativity run loose and in this regard, Kojima delivered. That panel with Kojima, Mikami and Suda from 2007 aged so well. Both Kojima and Mikami spoke on how they longed for creative liberty as Suda had - to make "games that don't necessarily sell". And look now, Kojima creates Death Stranding, one of the most bold and ambitious games in our recent generation.

Nah DS2 really shows that he cannot make sequels. He needs to stick to one off projects per vision.

Auteur devs make the best games. Death Stranding and Abe's Oddysee are among my favorite games ever and neither one plays quite like anything else.

APAC isn't really a stand-in for AIPAC. I kean, the similarity is clearly intentional, between the name and the logo based on that of the East India Company, it's clearly meant to invoke a colonialist organization. But they aren't a foreign lobby group.

One day the world will discover Death Stranding. Somebody popular is going to say something, memetic linkages will fall into place and people will realize that 10 years ago a game spoke of today. Of course DS1 and 2 are forgotten, they've yet to be known at all.

i played 2 and saw so much money being constantly thrown at the screen constantly i dont think they're making that budget back
>>
can someone just tell me whether either DS1 or 2 have trannies in it? I played death stranding one in full (100+ hours) and didn't see any trannies but there could be side characters I missed. If the second game also doesn't have any trannies then I'll be able to play it with a peace of mind. The reason I ask is obviously because he hangs out with trannies and hunter is definitely involved in a new game in some way and so I want to know at which point I can stop playing kojima games.

>>
>>741341259
I don't know, honestly. I think the DS games are a lot cheaper than they look. Aside from their lavishly directed cutscenes and a couple of big, but infrequent setpieces, they seem a lot more sparse than other open world titles. Low regular enemy variety, no NPC's, extremely minimalistic quests, made on a licensed engine. I think they just look more high budget then they are, because when they go big, they go really big.
>>
>>741335410

>>741335410
That's what Kojima said to Geoff when he was drizzling his pre-cum on to Geoff's luscious and eager DSLs.
>>
>>741341102
Not very successful. The larger gaming community didn't give DS1 a chance and DS2 even less. The franchise didn't even reach Dark Souls level popularity so Elden Ring tier pop is out of reach.

>>741341259
If it had been a financial disaster you bet every detractor would have jumped on the occasion to shove it in everyone's faces for some mean lulz. Yet nothing of the sort. Mere forgetfulness equates to mild success, not a blockbuster. At least it's not mainstream so it only belongs to a precious few fans.

I was excited for Death Stranding before it released, but the marketing for it constantly just being Kojima showing off which of his latest Hollywood friends were in the game got on my nerves continuously to the point that I had lost interest when they finally showed the actual game, despite thinking the game looked kind of interesting.

It was tailored gameplay and not indicative. Raw gameplay was kept until legit 1 month prior.
DS1 was most popular after release when tubers were making their reviews, though even the most honest reviewers treated it like some buttplug shaped table ornament (it must be art to somebody). Then when it released on PC so two popularity spikes.
>>

To be fair, Kojima was being pointlessly vague about the gameplay and basically went out of his way to pussyfoot around just openly saying "You play a deliveryman in the post apocalypse".

Kojima's just from a different time, when his hit games were truly hits because the market was monolithic and he was a standout innovator. Even if I think he's the vidya George Lucas, he's still oldschool and trying to create something original in a market saturated by genres and clones.

A major theme is the salvation of humanity through the system which is unique within our modern storytelling landscape since The System is always portrayed as the antagonist and we spend the game destroying the evil system and then we kill Basically-Sauron.
In DS we build the system, a system controlled by humans and not the other way around. DS2 is the antithesis to the thesis of DS1 by presenting "here's how good intentions pave the road to hell".
>>
>>741343239
what does unc say?
>>
>>741343315
It confused even the fans. We have a protag drowning at the depths of depression and the tone of the game is "sunny vacation in Australia", we have photorealistic 3D actors playing out scenes you'd see in a Slice of Life Moe anime. The music selection is full-on eclectic, the landscape is various biomes smashed together, it's difficult to make out DS2. It's a better game in parts and also a worst game in parts, i'll be critically honest i can't tell if it's a good sequel. I know i love DS2. It doesn't try to replace DS1.
>>
>>741343467
>good intentions pave the road to hell
Isn't that just a repeat of DS1?
>>
>>741344404
It is not because in DS1 it was a failure of the system that triggered the apocalypse at the end of the game. Amelie is the forces of nature independent of human will. Higgs is defeated long before that shit goes down.
In DS2 the problem is human error, bad actors who take control of the system, APAC and then Higgs do this. Now you see the parallel with what's been happening in the tech industry with those ideologically charged corpo lords talking like they can and should save society through their apps and services.
>>
Death stranding wont even be remember in 10 years.
>>
>>741335410
It's fucking shit. I only tolerated Kojima because he put out stealth action games like MGS.
Not for nip cock sucking like this>>741335684
I have sworn off all of his games for the future.
I'm praying that Ubisoft will bring Splinter Cell back so i can get my fill elsewhere. I don't trust those retarded nips at Konami to give me anything. If anything their reboot of MGS would just be a shitty Hideki Kamiya game and it would just be themed with codec calls and UI sounds.
>>
>>741344925
I never had fun playing metal gear games, death stranding is more fun.
>>
>>741345015
MGS is only important to me for it's role in the stealth genre. Aside from Splinter Cell there was practically no competitors or clones that lived up to it and quite a few tried but failed. Hitman is the other influential game of the era.

The major theme of DS1 is Sam coming to terms with the death of his wife/their baby.
Over the course of the game he opens himself up to humanity and finds a new "family" with Deadman and his BB.
The ending of DS1 is him figuratively saving "his" baby by literally saving BB. The weight of the first game is that Sam opened himself up to others, found something worth living for, and was able to overcome his guilt by saving a random baby he had connected with, that had been discarded by the society he'd originally shunned.
The message of DS2 is that nothing really matters because no one really dies (robbing any weight from the Deadman scene at the start of the game and the Fragile scene at the end), and oh yeah, actually the random baby he saved in DS1 was his real daughter all along because Kojima doesn't have a tard wrangler to stop him from writing soap opera tier twists.

Death Stranding 1 and 2 are some of the best games I've ever played.
That being said, I wish they had been two very long movies instead that somehow keep the feel you get while playing the game, the story, music, art direction and atmosphere.
It's an amazing experience from start to finish and I wish more people could see it instead of being "trapped" in the video game world.

I know A24 are making a movie about it, but it's and original story and not about Sam (which I think is a bad decision. The actors are getting older, but they could still pull it off)
>>
>>741352058
Maybe when dead facebook people come back as AI mimicks we'll feel the death stranding.
I think the context is already here because DS was written from its own context but people are dazzled and distracted so they don't have hindsight on current events. Reminder cyberpunk is from the 80's, it's legacy sci-fi and we're here 40 years later pretending it's a future aesthetic but cyberpunk is the past.
>>

Modern society is way more advanced than people dreamed of 40, 50 or 60+ years ago. It's just because we don't have flying cars, jetpacks and rayguns it doesn't look futuristic.

>>
>>741357576
I'm sure it's probably hand waved away in the lore somewhere. It's dumb as shit that killer groups are just allowed to exist. Hell even bandits existing is silly. At some point Bridges should have been like
>Alright you fuckers are too much of a hassle. We're just gonna deal with hauling your bodies to the incinerator
Hell I would have done it asap as I could, and I didn't have a whiny bitch little baby strapped to my chest.

Also if a bandit dies what do they do?
>Aw shucks, can we use your incinerator? Our friend here died of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy
I would guess that they'd burn the bodies somewhere outside of their camps, but we never saw any funeral pyres in our travels. Which makes me think more that they just drop the bodies off at a distro center and let them deal with it.
>>
>>741358683
There's no mention of NPCs going the lethal route. It made more sense before to be non lethal when bodies had to be burned in remote locations. In 2 you can waltz in any distro center with a truck full of corpses and get rid of them right there, no high amount of chiralium appearing in the air anymore due to the burning

>>741359051
>if a bandit dies what do they do?
Their buddies probably chuck them into the closest tar pit. Did distro centers in australia even have incinerators before drawbridge came along ? I also find it strange that there no incinerators at all in australia. It all feels like something they didn't really think about and changed for the sake of gameplay

Before anon's murderous intervention we are in a situation where people leave the cities and become survivalists for some reason. Anon intervenes and kills all survivalists, what does this act have to do with the trend? Survivalist rebels will continue to happen because the cause of them was not resolved so anon will kill them again, and again a third time and by that point i'd be surprise if the number a survivalist hasn't quadrupled just to spite anon's ruinous policy. The analogies are endless.

Anon's a guy who was warned not to fight fire with fire and thought it was stupid, didn't understand why it wouldn't work and decided to do the opposite because the warning must be a trick or something. Don't put this guy in charge.

>old guy
Dies and turns into a BT
In the first game dying had consequnces, you either became a faceless BT or became a faceless BT and voided out when you touched the living.
The connected Beaches in DS2 is an interesting idea and COULD have been done more effectively i.e. Deadman comes back at the end of the game to help Sam with Higgs, THEN says goodbye forever, Heartman sees his family again and decides to live. Instead Kojima went for Deadman was the red samurai the whole time, Heartman moved on off screen. Red samurai's reveal has zero emotional impact based on its placement in the game; nor does the hamfisted reveal of Tomorrow being Lou being Sam's daughter to his apathetic response.
It was simply a boring sequel with bad writing and in some places, improved gameplay.

I meant ideally they'd do nothing because that's what i want, i want the ideal result. Realistically the survivalists are going to do a bit of killing and my job is to bring that to a possible minimum which is implied to happen in game in SSS posts, codec entries, in the deliveries themselves and in the fact the survivalists organize in fortified camps meaning somebody has been attacking them before Sam arrived.

Because DS2 has more in common with an anime than a hollywood movie.
If DS3 doesn't have gravity rush + abzu tier fluid movement mechanics then Kojima's a hack.

No, it's not MGS2.
In fact Kojima should've stopped making games after MGS2.
>>
>>741365684
Well put i've gotta admit.
DS1 shocked people then they decided they "got it" and had their fill.
What kind of reason is that to engage with a game just to get it. Oh okay got it.
>>
>>741341848
I've grown more incensed with Dollman as the game went on. It'd be different if Sam talked to him, but he doesn't, so he's just annoying me, the Sam-yer.
>>
>>741343315
It reminds me of Portal 2 compared to Portal 1.
>>
Love or hate him, you got to admit that Kojima is currently at a good place right now.
>scanned joosten (probably fucked her)
>scanned elle fanning (probably fucked her)
>scanned that french girl (probably fucked her too)
>scanned that sophia lillis (kojima fucked her too)

and the best of all, he probably has some private personal WEG POV game where he gets to relive those experiences
>>
>>741366515
>get hit once by blade ghost mech
>OH BOY THAT MUST HURT
>YOU LOST A LOT OF BLOOD YOU SHOULD GET TO SAFETY
>SAM ARE YOU ALRIGHT???
And as you said, Sam doesn't even talk to him. He's an awful gameplay addition and his character is retarded. Wowee I brought my daughter to a BT area now we're both dead.
>>
>>741366846
Your anger is manufactured in your own mind and is not an objective quality of the game. Leave him alone.
>>
>>741366515
I can't stand Dollman's accent either. Is it supposed to be a Spanish accent? I can't tell. Regardless, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me.
>>
>>741335410
maybe when it's actually on discount on steam
>>
>>741366846
I was so fucking fed up with Dollman, that when he asked me if I wanted to hear his stupid story, I said no every time.
>WOW Really Sam!?!?
Yes you fucking idiot. Learn to take a hint after asking me the third time.

I later looked it up on YouTube, and yeah it was dumb as shit. If the Death Strandingâ„¢ never happened, he probably would have still gotten himself and his daughter killed. I'm imaging him bringing his daughter to see the family dog after it contracted rabies.
>>
>>741366846
I don't like most of his room interactions either. I miss BB. BB was funny. Dollman's musical gags aren't as endearing.

Remember when he decided to do a book club thing with Sam on the Magellan? Sam could actually say something back once or twice, you know.
>>
Death stranding gets immediately forgotten the second nobody is shilling it. Even Metal Gear Solid is only relevant because pretentious millenials who hate gaming are obsessed with it for some reason, probably because it has more cutscenes and dialogue than gameplay.

>>
>>741366989
No. He is by far the worst aspect of the game. I don't need to be told to eat ze bugs when Sam is low on blood. I don't need to be told that I dropped some cargo after the second floating carrier decided that the rock the first carrier floated over just fine was too much for it to handle. And I certainly don't need anyone else than Sam shouting when using zip-lines and jump ramps.

>>741367546
>bring daughter to black things area
>get shot to death both

>>741367605
They could've done so much more with the BB hallucination. Small interactions between her and Sam during gameplay, cute cutscenes, maybe sometimes BB fading away for a split second, Tomorrow interacting with the pod. Kojima decided to make Sam suffer for whatever reason, why not go all in at this point?
>>
>>741335684
This. You can criticize the execution of the game if you want, but the creativity attempted in Death Stranding 1 should be the standard, not the exception. It was one of the best games of the 8th gen for that reason (not a high bar). I haven't played DS2 yet though. I fear the wrong lessons were learned from DS1.

It's a famous videogame from a famous individual. It won't be forgotten no matter how unremarkable the game is.
People remember random unremarkable games from nobodies on the NES from decades ago. Why would they forget death stranding?

Kojima sucks but he isn't being forgotten.

You'd think you'd get more apples than just the one.
>>
>>741370970

>>
>>741335410
Not really. The game already aged poorly tbqh. I think Kojima became too obsessed with twitter and got depressed because of all the mean comments people would leave on random posts and decided to built an entire game around that.

Anyway, we've found out in recent years that most social media comments/interactions are actually very positive but they aren't fulfilling because there's no follow ups to those interactions. Kojima thought he was being clever by making "social media but you can only be nice :)" but that's basically what we already have: people getting hundreds of vapid, pseudo anonymous likes and compliments on their instagram stories.

Kojima spent most of his career making snide remarks about FPS games but we're now at a point where the average teen booting up Fortnite every night and shit talking on voice with his friends is getting much more healthy, nourishing social interactions than boomers like Kojima who get thousands of likes on twitter. Death Stranding really is just an incel game for friendless losers desu.

That's the second one. The first one is from the batch of apples the Dowser gives to the crew, Rainy gives one to Sam when it's not ripe yet. Then Tomorrow keeps the rest.
>>
>>741335410
Specifically 2? No but Death stranding as a whole is something I'll not forget. People laugh about the "strand" genre but there is no other game that plays like it and thus it is unique.
