shovelware is a sign of a healthy free/open market, right now we can't even pick up a [insert random cartoon/tvshow] game because the gaming space is now privatized/stockholder slop, for the most part, dunno if indie marlet applies here tho, but its a good thing Indies can compete, mostly thanks to steam

Those were the exception, not the rule, very few games did re-launch as a 'Greatest Hits" that did indeed add content or changed things, but hardly it was considered normal.

That's why I stated 4K.
HOWEVER, I'm willing to walk back on that, I saw a video of the Gran Turismo dude and he said they couldn't get some graphical element right on the PS3 whereas on the PS2 it was no issue.
I don't remember if it was the lighting or fog but it was def something they just couldn't do on the PS3.

Yayyyy, I love no patches. I love how almost every major PS1 franchise got an extremely rushed and cut down buggy mess of a sequel because they had to go gold on a schedule and never had a chance to put out a patch!!!! I love having to worry about game breaking bugs and softlocks 20 hours into a game because the revision that fixes them hasn't been printed yet!!!!!

I love getting fucked over massively as a consumer because games being fucked up forever is preferable to me having to spend a couple minutes downloading a patch!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!

Unavoidable in the 3D space unless you have a robust engine that's been through decades of development. Most good PS2 games were designed with the majority of their code carried over from the PS1. Those PS1 games were buggy messes but most people were able to forgive it since early 3D games were universally terrible.

We reached the point where Xwitter engagement bot posts get reposted here. No, PS2 games DID have version numbers and fixes. They just got rereleased with those patches. And this method was shit since your game was broken unless you bought the patched version (which sometimes had stuff removed).
>>

>no games

>>
>>741340008
Yep, I realized how good we had it. The moment I hard about this whole "DLC" thingie, I knew bad things were on the way and that gaming as we knew it was going to go downhill. It always baffled me that there are idiots out there who actually supported the idea of DLC, and they weren't in a small number either. They genuinely think it's better to have parts of a game chopped up into smaller pieces and sold separately, instead of getting the full game right away.

You can't really change shit. It has to be on HID keyboard + mouse and should just work. But also there are like maybe 3-4 games that have native K+M support and only Half-Life is the one where it doesn't suck. HL on PS2 with K+M is basically like the PC version just with even more HD models.

Loicences if you're a garbo wall hugger. That said doing up japa shitboxes and racing them on the tracks was cool since GT one of the few on that gen to really give it some good meat. The car variety in GT2 career mode was legit. There were some cars in the used lots that you couldn't find in the dealerships like the Toyota 2000GT, Mercury Cougar. Datsun Fairlady Z and the Skyline R30, 31 and the 4WD R32. Not to mention all those Silvia variants with the Qs and Ks.

No patches also means not being able to iron out bugs, glitches or exploits that managed to slip through QA.
DLC roadmaps get you more content for the game later down the line, same as the expansion would.
It's not the practices themselves that are at fault, it's how they are being abused.
>>
>>741347628
I only played 1 and 2 barely getting past International Class C so most of the championships are news to me. That said the Midget 2 races are worth a few runs alone just to whoop the competition with a turbo charged tofu truck flying at 120. All while they're struggling to blow past 80 on the straights. I remember there was a lot of nice cars and a few meme ones in the lineup like the Plymouth Superbird, Cuda, Fiat 500, RX-7s, Jaaag XJ220 and that one supercharged Daisen Silvia.
>>
>>741347920

Do zoomers realize we pre-ordered games because we wanted to reserve a copy? Like the stores would run out of a popular game and you just couldn't buy it if you didn't pre-order. They started incentivizing us to do that by giving us physical rewards.

In the digital age pre-order is pointless. They can't run out of data.

Something people rarely mention about this generation is how great it was for sequels. Sequels to hit games took 1-2 years to release and they actually improved upon their predecessors. Nowadays, if there's a sequel announced for a game you loved, you know it'll take 9 years to release, it'll be loaded with mtx, the true ending will divided into 4 post-launch DLCs, it'll be purple, and gay as hell. Since the launch of PS4 or so, I haven't been able to get excited for new games because there's ALWAYS a catch.
>>
>>741348015
It's the exact opposite btw. It takes decades sometimes to find speedrun bugs in some games, but nowadays, it's usually day FUCKING one.
