Something people rarely mention about this generation is how great it was for sequels. Sequels to hit games took 1-2 years to release and they actually improved upon their predecessors. Nowadays, if there's a sequel announced for a game you loved, you know it'll take 9 years to release, it'll be loaded with mtx, the true ending will divided into 4 post-launch DLCs, it'll be purple, and gay as hell. Since the launch of PS4 or so, I haven't been able to get excited for new games because there's ALWAYS a catch.
