The whole trend of remaking classic games from years ago that everybody loved is all wrong. There's no reason to remake good games when they're already good. Just go play the original. It's good. We should be finding games that SUCKED and remaking them to be good. What are some promising games that fucking sucked that need a remake so they can finally get a second chance to be good?
>imageThe oldest millenniala are 45 thoughbeit>threadI would love them to remake Spartan Total Warrior. The not-God-of-War released the same year. I remember loving it as a kid - going back as an adult, I can see it has a lot of issues but I wish they would take another crack at it. They won't because it would be guaranteed to make zero dollars. Not enough nostalgia to get former owners to buy, not suited to the current market to get new people to try it out.
>>741343003Because they are scared. It's important to minimize risk in business, and after all this huge multi-million dollar flops, they'd rather take the safe path of selling the same thing again since it clearly works. As more big titles fail, expect even more remakes. Why don't they remake something that sucked? Because it would perform worse than a beloved title. It's all about money. None of the bigwigs actually care about games.
>>741343003Because publishers exist to strip the accomplishments from creators. If someone makes a new IP with recognized success, then that person gains a bargaining chip, whereas some anonymous slopfarm remaking a game from someone who is no longer working at the company has no bargaining power. The management bureaucracy at these companies is like a clique of mentally ill highschool girls.
>>741343003I agree with this, but remaking a title known to be bad is just bad for marketing. They won't do it.I want Sonic Forces to be remade myself. I love its ideas, the setting, the villain, cloning old villains, the avatar. The vocal tracks in the OST are good too, and I even liked the wisp weapons. It's just that nothing is implemented very well and everything was squandered. Everyone controls like ass, modern Sonic is just running down a hallway simulator, classic Sonic doesn't even need to be there, the avatar creator was intentionally made worse than it could've been, the past villains gimmick was barely used. Chaos 0 is unceremoniously defeated in cutscene purely to introduce classic Sonic. The writing is not good all around. The wisp weapons are also horribly balanced, but I dunno they're kinda fun anyway. God I wish it wasn't so ass
>>741343003>mfw already over 40Dunno what the big deal is. I have aged rather well and not bald yet.
I remember being hyped for this.
>>741343003Original games are too expensive and therefore too risky to make for today's standards. When games come out that don't look AAA you say they look like PS2 games When games come out that are less than 10 hours you say they're a ripoff When games come out using UE5 you screech because they won't run on the Toshiba laptop that the nice man at the store told you mother would run everything When games come out that use AI you call them transphobic When games come out and cost half as much as they did 30 years ago you call them overpriced You get what you asked for: remakes.
>>741343003Hey wait a minute. I don't have to buy remakes.
>>741344258>When games come out and cost half as much as they did 30 years ago you call them overpriced When a game comes out that comes with a GPU, then I will consider paying Star Fox equivalent prices for it.Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game.>but inflationTools are cheaper, hardware is cheaper, knowledge is cheaper, distribution is easier and the audience is bigger.
>>741343003They do it because>studios are creatively bankrupt>their investors want an easy, guaranteed return on investment after their big projects flopped>gives them a chance to fix the "problematic" parts of old games/franchises and remake them for the "modern audience"Its just money. The original fans dont usually want remakes, but the remakes arent for them. The remakes are for the Alphies/Zoomers/Normies who've never played "Classic Game: II" from 2010.
>>741343003>make familiar good thingPeople that know what thing is will buy it out of curiosity.>make familiar bad thingPeople are hesitant to try it again because it was shit the first time around. It could even be good but because they have a negative memory they are skeptical of itBest you'll get is a remake of an IP that has a bunch of good ones and one stinker like Devil May Cry 2, and that's after they remake DMC1.
>>741343003I like the idea of "remasters" that take the original game, up the graphics just a little, rebalance things that didn't work that well, add some cut content, then add a new campaign or something. It's why I love the Quake 1 and 2 remasters. At the very LEAST just make the old games playable on newer systems.
>>741343003i dunno REmake was pretty good. if they do a good job I like remakes of good older games. Plus I think it takes less skilled developers to kind-of succeed at it. The same people who would never be able to make a real game on their own might be able to make a passable remake since most of it is copying someone else's homework. At the end of the the day there's an enormous talent shortage at game studios. If remakes let you get something of value out of untalented loser devs, then that's a positive outcome.
>>741343003It's because millennials with kids like me would rather spend my limited money on cheaper and better indie games on steam. It's the Pokémon/Nintendo virgins that complain about never owning a house that will shell out 80 plus dollars. Most of us guys that grew up with Nintendo have tired of their shitty antics, overpriced antics and emulate all their first party games on better hardware.Botw is the only Nintendo game I pirates that I felt guilty about.
>>741343003why do zoomers treat 40s like retirement age?
>>741343003>There's no reason to remake good games when they're already good. Just go play the original. It's good.It isn't as clear cut as that. For example, Resident Evil Code Veronica is antiquated to play, more so than the PS1 games as the physics and enemy AI is inferior to them. Also, it doesn't have the same atmosphere due to it being an early fully 3D Resident Evil game. However, the gameplay beats of this entry are good, so letting it fade away with the original gameplay engine is a massive waste.
>>741343003the gothic remake is kind of objectively better than the original. my problem with remakes is that they never go far enough. the original was a flawed masterpiece and they remake the game with those same flaws, why?but that is a point, if anything gothic 3 should've been remade, but the problem is finding an audience for a game people didn't like back when it released promising that you've fixed the issues it had back then - they just wouldn't sell
>>741343003>40Bro I just turned 30
>>741344483It doesn't have to be notoriously bad games that were famous for being bad. It could be games that looked promising before they were released, but came out and were absolutely disappointing and forgotten about because the execution was poor. I think a single player action-adventure Mortal Kombat spinoff starring a character from that franchise could be cool. It's just the one they attempted sucked.
>>741344702It's undeniably midlife, and you're probably stuck between work and kids at that point anyway. Women shouldn't even be having kids at that age.Not a zoomer specific sentiment since my gen x mom basically told my older bro that he's old and his life is over when he turned 30.

Glad this one is getting a remake.
>>741343678Once you get enough wrinkles (around 30) you might as well shave your head anyway
>>741343003>There's no reason to remake good games when they're already goodYes there is: money. Remakes of good games are money printers.
>>741345185 >>74134470230 is the age when your trajectory in life is mostly set. It's statistically unlikely that you can change your outcome but it is still possible with enough effort.40 is the age where your fate is sealed outside of miracles.
>>741343003Anon, "premium" goyming is a nursing home. Oldies with alzheimer buy things from their childhood(and don't finish them anyway) Kids play robloxslop on phones
>>741343003Pic related.>Edgy sonic shooting people on a motorcycle"how can this not rule?" - 10 year old meit was the worst game i ever boughtfuck nintendo power for giving it 8/10
>>741343003>There's no reason to remake good games when they're already good.Ready for the truth nuke? Old games are INHERENTLY worse for being old, just like an old painting weathers away with time. Art needs to be restored (or remade) in order to be preserved.
