I've been completely unable to pass the first boss after that run, every time I just get shit luck with skills and I can't even get points for the next run because they end so fast.

Here's a fun little tip. You can train without having the money and go into debt. So you spend all your money at the store, and go into debt to train. Not only will you outpace the money economy, you'll also get judas kisses, which gives you decent bonuses.
