So now they're stuck with a bloated company that is less efficient than it was 15 years ago, where they can only work on one project at a time, each project takes half a decade and the imaginative spark that created some of the highlights of their older games thanks to singular devs that had an idea and worked on it in their free time to present it to Todd or whatever, doesn't exist anymore.

With Oblivion and Fallout 3, sure you can technically not fast travel but quests will take you all over the map without the consideration of diegetic travel that Morrowind had, so in reality you'll just waste time traveling through the same road for the 70th time a playthrough while trying to do the Fighters Guild which takes you all over Cyrodiil, with no random encounters or unmarked locations to find and with a world that outside of dungeons seems completely empty and sterile.That changed with Skyrim though. Leaving aside how the actual world was made that much more detailed in exploration, locations to find, shrines, random encounters, height levels that obfuscate travel, etc. they added carriages you can take just like the Silt Striders of old, and once you've advanced enough in the game's quests you can even fly dragons yourself. Fallout 4 had the same thing with the ability to call Vertibirds and to have them fly you in real time. The official survival mode which eliminates fast travel works for those games in a way that wouldn't in Oblivion or Fallout 3 precisely because they brought some of the Morrowind options back.
