The Internet used to feel way bigger prior to centralization. Part of that was because many forums just had more people using them on a casual basis. Part also comes from lurking being more common than ever before.
>>

Yes, forums made the internet seem immense; you had a community in every corner, for every topic. Now you go on Twitter and you can't tell how many people are online, how many posts per minute, or which topics are active at the top of the thread list. It seems smaller despite the fact that there are 100 times more people.
>>

Tried to use gamefaqs for labyrinth of refrain the other day. Everything about the website had changed, there were three different pages for the same game because of the three different launches and none of the pages had anything. If it's like this for games that are only somewhat new and not gaas it's easy to see how gamefaqs has nothing to attract users nowadays
>>
>>741396519
Ideally you'd like to see young people replace the old, but from the graph it looks like at least for GameFAQs no one under 25 is using the site anymore. The cohort that grew up with GameFAQs continued to used GameFAQs but it failed to attract anyone younger.

Where do Zoomers get there game guides? Youtube? I only ever used GameFAQs when I was playing JRPGs but nowadays they're so handholdy you don't even need an FAQ so I haven't visited in years. I think the last time I visited GameFAQs I was playing FFXI and looking up info over summerbreak around when chains of promathia came out.

Also 25k votes -> 12k -> 6k is fucking grim. Its a ghost town over there, fucking yikes.

In the 80s if you were a college graduate it was basically a free pass to be a doctor or lawyer or some other high paying job and you were probably doing lines of cocaine or fucking multiple high class prostitutes every night and you paid for that college tuition a few years ago by working a summer job. If you were a high school graduate it most likely meant you were working a 9-5 and got paid enough to buy a house and support a family of four with your stay at home wife along with multiple vacations per year.

People just don't have enough money for that shit these days. College doesn't mean shit except putting you tens if not hundreds of thosuands of dollars in debt. Both parents working a full time job is barely enough to support a single kid.

>>
>>741396264
Nothing surprising unfortunately... The end of GameFAQs was bound to happen at some point.
I'm even a little shocked the site is still maintained and not already part of the internet archive.
It's basically a relic of the past now.
Forums (outside of porn material) have died. Replaced by social media and discord servers. As well as Steam discussions and YT.
GF was used for guides in an era of hard games with little knowledge around and barely any videos at the time.
The site and the community helped me a lot for obscure game knowledge all from 2006 until circa 2015s when I stopped visiting.
It's still one of the only places hosting some very very good written guides, for retro games.

Reminder that the highest level moderator with the most power who wasn't an admin is an autist who wanted to be the user with the highest karma so he spent hundreds of dollars on GameFAQs shirts(years ago they ran a campaign where if you bought site merch you got free karma) and then banned the person who was still ahead of him for bogus reasons just so he could take the top spot. This same moderator was known for banning anyone who disagreed with him and it continued for years because the administration didn't give a fuck.

A lot of data we know shows that Zoomers and Gen Alpha care a lot less about traditional console/PC games than every other generation. Whereas mobile gaming is growing leaps and bounds every year. With the industry reaching a cap on how much games they can sell, traditional gamers leaving the hobby due to old age, death, sickness, no free time or money and no younger people replacing them, we're just going to see a decline of what /v/ would call traditional "video games"

>convinced each other that any game older than 2 months is uncslop, trapping themselves into modern gaming hell, which started its decline in the early 2000s if we're being real, with nowadays being unfathomably worse than Deus Ex: Invisible War

The average man being able to vote was bad enough, women, average women at that, being able to vote was the worst thing to happen to the West since WW2.

>>
>>741396309
It's literally the same for everything and everywhere. Music, video games, movies, tv shows and media in general have been carried by millennials since forever.

When it comes to the internets other than Tiktok all websites are majority millennials. Like 80% of something as niche as vtubing are millennials too. It's a bit scary to think about it but younger generation are either a whole completely different breed of people or maybe a good chunk of zoomers were never even born and we don't realize how serious the population crisis actually. Because there is a reason why governments have been importing 3rd worlders like crazy to white countries even against the will of citizens.

already happened a long time ago. you think zoomers and alphababies are signing up for forums or mod sites and the like? they hang in discord. websites? they don't even click (tap, realistically) on search results in google, they only read the AI summary. websites are on their way out if you haven't noticed. given the choice between a slight bit of effort / friction and an inferior but smooth experience, younger people will always choose the latter. so that's where the market is moving. braindead one-track apps that only offer 1% of the cool stuff we enjoyed in the 2000s but in increasingly easier to digest form.

Hoflation. Women aren't worth marring anymore. Feminism made them all "sexually liberated" narcissists and the internet gave them too many options and a massive FOMO on a "better" husband and life. More than half of all marriages end in divorce and women file for divorce in 80-90% of cases.
