Is getting filtered by Professor Layton puzzles normal? I'm struggling even with clues sometimes.
>>741396760yes
>>741396760Layton's puzzles are notorious for being bullshit.
>>741396831Damn
>>741396760Sometimes the clues are actually trolling you in a condescending way, so don't mind them.As for the puzzles themselves, there's a few standouts that are actually bullshit, so it's ok to get stuck by a handful per game but if you mean getting filtered regularly, like every two puzzles or so, then it might be on you.
Depends on the puzzle
>>741396992zero because you just wait
>>741396992One->>741397093 Oh fuck this.
>>741396760Some puzzles are genuinely bullshit so don't feel ashamed for not getting some of them.I can do most puzzles in 1-2 attempts without hint coins, but I'm a sucker for puzzles and played through several Layton games at this point. There's still the occasional puzzle that I have to use multiple hint coins on and take three or more attempts to solve, though.Several puzzle types are re-used across the games so once you recognize some of them, it becomes a lot easier. If you keep playing you'll also just generally pick up on broader puzzle-solving strategies.
>>741397093unless the clock is broken
>>741397161technically on these old clocks you always need to turn back the spring for the clock to workso if the clock move it is because it has been touched at least once
My least favorite Layton puzzles are the ones that are so ridiculously easy that it seems like it's a trick question, so you end up overthinking it and getting it wrong when the obvious answer was the correct one.
The hardest Layton puzzle i ever encountered was one in Diabolical Box where it was asking you to find the area of an irregular shape and it completely destroyed me, especially because it was one you just have to put the answer in IIRC. and the hints were just some shit like "You don't actually need pi for this one haha"
>>741397690>"My friend gave me this birthday present, but it was delivered in a block of ice!>The card that came with it said you can use five 150 ml cups of hot water to melt 30 g of ice, and that I'd have to work out how many cups of hot water are necessary to melt the 2 kg ice block that's around it.">Can you help Prima work out how many cups of hot water are necessary?
>>741397828Just put it in the sink and turn it on
Professor Layton hints are always like>Hint 1: Don't overthink the solution!>Hint 2: Try looking at the puzzle from a different angle!>Hint 3: Here's the answer you fucking retard
I heff twelve metchsteek
>>741397828I can't tell if the answer is 0 because the ice will just melt on it's own, or if we're actually supposed to do the math.
>>741397986but maybe the puzzle was the present itself?
When the fuck is World of Steam coming out? It feels like I've spent an eternity getting baited by trailers promising me the game and then going into hiding. These things usually took 1 or two years to make ffs
>>741396896Nah, they're usually pretty good. There's a small handful of bullshit ones, but they're largely fine.
>>741397814You mean this one?
>>741398252It's supposed to be coming out some time this year, but it's been stuck in development hell for so long now and Level-5 has supposedly been going under so I doubt that.
>>741398148I tried to do the math firstbut the number didn't fit on the screen...
>>741397093Gah. True.
>>741397828What's the answer?
>>741397828>>741398148>>741398381The trick is that it requires 0 cups of hot water. The solution requires no math at all; you simply have to leave the block of ice by the fireplace and wait for it to melt.I dislike those kind of puzzles. >Heres an axiom use it to solve this puzzle>Actually you were supposed to ignore the axiom
>>741396992Zero because the clock will show a nice time when it's midnight, so you just wait
>>741397828>Fireplace in the backgroundThe solution is 0, because the solution image will have her stand near the fire with the block melting.
You liked our games, right?
>>741398337Yes. Even just looking at this now is pissing me off.
>>741398337This one is actually a decent outside the box thinking puzzle, I do like it.
>>741397093>>741398567I sincerely pray hell exists just so whoever came up with the concept of riddles can enjoy being raped with a red hot pitchfork for all eternity.
>>741398337Wow. That's exactly the kinda puzzle that always gets me. When you see the answer you can see how easy it is, but thinking too reframe the geometry like that just doesn't occur to me.
>>741398337Isn't that just 20x20?
>>741398337I think it's 225 meters squared
>>741398337>>741398642>>741398687If I remember the solution was something like this. You can connect the centers of the circles to their adjacent and that makes a square with 20m long sides. If you notice, there are 3 quarters of circles not filled in within the square, and there are 3 quarters of a circle filled in outside the square, so this square has the same area as the filled-in area. So you just find the area of the square with the 20m sides, and it comes out to be 400.This is just from memory so I could be wrong though.
>>741398809Once again it's 0 if you just look at it upside down
>>7413988090, just look at the matches from the opposite perspective. You're not tricking me this time, Layton.
>>741398809I want to say 1 to make the 11 to 9.But I'm sure there's some bullshit answer
>>741398870Ok I thought you could find the entire area of the square around the flowers, and divide it by 4. I got 300 squared, divided by 4. I can see it was wrong
>>7413988091, Move the first 1 to the other side of the equation to make 11 = 11.
>>741398809I can see two solutions moving only one matchstick. I imagine the answer is to move 0 matchsticks and just burn one instead. Or to change the equation and put a - in front of the 1 or something equally asinine.
>>741398930Pretty much, you just have to realize that the middle shape combined with the circle can make a square when put together.
>>741398626I did, actually. Alfendi's game is pretty alright for a Layton Spinoff from puzzles to a general case solving, and Lucy is a total cutie.Katrielle's game is also fine for me, I really like the designs, music and atmosphere, the story is very terrible and rushed because they tried that episodic element for being a phone game first, so much so that they had to make an entire anime to redo it; and some of the puzzles are a bit memetic with the whole use of 0 as an answer and such, but overall the puzzle quality is pretty good, albeit a bit on the easier side.
>>741399026And now I see: >>741398943 >>741398945Goddamn.
>>741398809Does lighting the matches and letting them burn count as moving them?Because you can light the 2 ones and it becomes 10=10
>>741398337I have no fucking clue what the fuck a radius, metre or metres squared is. I can't even comprehend what this is asking. I have no clue how the fuck people actually enjoy puzzle games, this shit is infuriating.
>>741398930>>741398642I think you still need to calculate the area of the square minus the area of one circle, to get only the area of the red in the centerand to calculate the area of a circle you need A = πr2very annoying but maybe the puzzle answer is 0 like all shitty layton puzzle
>>741398626No. Kat was okay but her beta orbiter and talking dog were insufferable. And the puzzles were worse too.
>>741398847>>741398930Good work! I didn't intend on puzzle posting tonight but since what I'm doing doesn't require my full attention I could post some for my fellow anons
>>741398943shiiiiiiiiiit
>>741397828Why the fuck would you measure how much hot water you need? Just pour it on until it's melted. I have no fucking clue how many grams go into a kilogram so whatever math fuckery is intended here means nothing.
>>741399097Stupidity is not something to celebrate, anon.
>>741399171J, since the middle spout is supposed to be 10
>>741399171J, since 10 is already taken by the middle.
Focus on the puzzle, lads.
>>741399171Naieve answer says J, but that's too easy. I've missed whatever the trick is.
>>741399235How many IQ points do I need before outside knowledge manifests autonomously in my brain? Fuck being smart, thinking is painful.
>>741399171J. That represents 10, which the middle fountain already covers
>>741399171J would be 0, but 0 isn't counted in 1-9. Each center is 10, each A-I is 1.
>>741398626It's a shame mystery brothers didn't become a series, it had potential.
>>7413992541200+100+500+800 = 26001100+200+400+300+600 = 26001000+700+900 = 2600
>>741399305I guess he dies killed by the cat jumping on the butterfly before that?
>>741399305Pinky.It's still base 5, so 763 would be the 3rd number in the chain.
>>741399305Little finger
>>741399305pinky because every number that ends in 3 ends in 3.
>>741399254This isn't a particularly interesting puzzle, it's just math
>>741399240>>741399249>>741399304>>741399312Indeed it's J!
>>741399305So 1-5 is left thumb, left middle finger, left pinkie, left ring finger, left index finger, and 6-10 is right thumb, right middle finger, right pinkie, right ring finger, right index finger. I get this, but counting to that point would take fucking forever.
>>741399305I got this right without solving it, because the naieve answer is correct even if you completely miss what the puzzle is actually doing.Lol
>>741399497every number that ends in 3 ends in 3
>>741399097The image already shows you what the radius of a circle is. Metre is just an unit, you can swap it out for inches or football stadiums or a dick-widths of George Washington if you wish. The puzzle will remain the same. If you do not know what "squared" is then maybe wait a year or two and they will teach it to you in school.
>>741399464>>741399526>763 starts with 3
>>741399497It's still Base 5 though. Every 5 it resets back to his Thumb. So it's just count 761, 762, 763 on his finger.
>>741399558no, it ends in 3 which means it ENDS in 3.
>>741399464>every number that ends in 3 ends in 3.Woah dude
>>741399540I'm 37. I don't remember school. How the fuck is the puzzle the same if you use different measurements? I don't see what a radius is indicated anywhere in there, unless it's that weird symbol with the 10 by it.
>>741399171What if a <1-year-old would approach the fountain? J isn't so useless after all.
>>741398626I really disliked the trend back then of suddenly coming up with a big ass timeskip where the protagonist's life gets completely upended so you can play a less likeable next generation MC, and also they adopt kids instead of having their own.Well, it's not exactly a trend, but it always felt really weird how both Ace Attorney and Professor Layton pulled the exact same thing.
>>7413992541000 - 9001200 - 800600 - 1100
>>741399658The fountain just wouldn't spout at all for anyone less than a year old, dummy
>>741399558>>741399606All he's doing is counting on his fingers 1-5 and over again, he's not changing anything. It only looks strange because he's doing it in a strange pattern, but it's exactly the same as if you counted 1-5 on your fingers. If you did it, when you got to 763, which finger would it be? Your middle finger, right, third in order? Same for him, except his pinky is the one he uses third in order.
>>741399404Nicely cut!
>>741399606I don't know what "Base 5" is. I fucking hate math, it's this endlessly convoluted series of bizarre rules and symbols that you need to memorize through repetition.>>741399607I don't know what your phrasing here is supposed to indicate.
>>741399686Then how do we verify that's a legit signal and not just a malfunction?
>>741399171Ok but how does the fountain know? That's the real riddle
>>741399730I mean I was always taught to count index-pinky and then thumb if you need it but I really didn't get finger counting because I'd always lose my place in numbers past double digits. I don't understand how you are figuring it out beyond counting up to 763 using his method, I have no fucking clue what finger I'd be on.
>>741399803None of them will work because of the knob sticking out of the end of the keys. Unless I'm missing something
>>741399753Count on both your hands, left pinky 1, left ring 2, left middle 3, left index 4, left thumb 5, right thumb 6, right index 7, right middle 8, right ring 9, right pinky 10What finger does 17 end on? Right index. How about 27? 37? 924927? All of them right index. Because right index will always be 7.Cut it in half so only one hand is used;1/6, 2/7, 3/8, 4/9, 5/10 are all counted on the same fingers. 1, 11, 21, 31, 36, 46, 76, 116 are all on the same finger because they all end with either 1 or 6.A number that ends in 3 ends in 3.
>>741399830That's quite simple, you seeThe entire town is under the influence of gas-induced hallucination from an old mining project done there decades ago, which has made the people that live there not actually be real and just happen to exist commonly to everybody that visits because that's what they expect to see when they take the train there. Since the puzzle tells you this is how the fountain works, it works perfectly through the power of suggestion.
>>741399906Or if you treated them like a stamp, then you would turn them on the side which would mean they could fit into every lock I think.
>>741399803>no idea if the knobs are part of it>they aren't to scale so figuring out how they fit relative to the keyhole is impossible>have to not only imagine 3 shapes combined, but in any potential combination of rotationsThis shit is impossible
>>741396760You need to get in the puzzle groove anon, there are some days where I too just can't even
>>741399853Even if you can't visualise the logic, there's a basic pattern to see. 3 is the pinky. Then keep counting. 8 is the pinky. 13 is the pinky. 18 is the pinky. 23 is the pinky. 28 is the pinky. If the number ends in 3 or 8, it will always be the pinky.
>>741399853Okay so if you count on one hand, every 5 you'll reset back to the start, right?1. Index2. Middle3. Ring 4. Pinky5. Thumb 6. Index7. Middle8. Ring9. Pinky10. ThumbYou can see the pattens repeats every 5. So at 760 you'll be back to your Thumb. Then Index, Middle, and finally Pointer.
>>741399948That's weird, I feel like as the numbers grew they'd get out of sync and 7 wouldn't always be on the same finger. You lost me at the part with fractions though.
>>741400013>no idea if the knobs are part of itYou're looking at it wrong, they're stamps. The knob is the handle used to press them in.
>>741400092>fractionsAnon, I'm afraid you might actually be retarded
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJbtazObqRU
>>741396992One, you spin the big hand backwards to turn the little hand to 00/12 and then the bighand hits the same position.
>>741400119If that's the case then I'm not even looking at the part that's going to actually stamp into the keyhole and it's unsolvable. I can't see the side of the stamp that is actually inserted.
>>741400218Can you imagine an apple in your head? Can you rotate it?
>>741400159I can do basic fractions like 1/2, 1/10, 1/6 stuff like that but once you get into micro permutation bullshit like 2/17 it's incomprehensible to me.
>>741399803I honestly can't tell if this is right or not since they're not supposed to be to scale, but I'm going to go with GI was using MSPaint which only allows 90 degree rotation intervals but it piece 1 was rotated at 45 degrees, it looks like it would fit.
>>741400256Yes but I know what an apple looks like from all angles. This is a stamp that could look like absolutely anything. The handle looks like it's facing outwards and to my right, so the part actually facing me right roughly the left side of the stamp, not the part that actually fits in the keyhole.
>>741400092They'd only get out of sync if somehow after 9 there was another bigger number that didn't just end up being the next 10.Like after 59, instead of going to 60 it went to something like "Fifty Eleven" and then to 60 it would be out of sync. But numbers don't work that way.
>>741400268They're not fractions. 1/6, 2/7, 3/8, 4/9, 5/10 are all counted on the same fingers1 and 6 are counted on the same fingers. 2 and 7 are counted on the same fingers.
>>741400310I'll give you a hint.G is ONE of the correct keyholes. There's several others that work as well.
I have not played a Layton game, though they do look charming. However, I present to you this comic strip from a more civilised age:
>>741400324The puzzle is just "Here's 3 shapes, which of these shapes can you make with them?"You're overthinking it like crazy
>>741400476Then they shouldn't have put the fucking handle in there at all. It's misleading.I can see how anon got G from above but anything past that requires object rotation and I'm not doing that.
>>741400417That one is great, but this one is more true to the character
>>741399803>>741400310>>741400401A, E, G
>>741400527Wait nevermind fuck that puzzle, actually looking back at the original image it's none of them because the scale is fucked and anon had to shrink to make them fit in G.
>>741400673Let's take a looksie...
>>741400673>>741400729Here's another clue, E is NOT one of the correct keyholes.

>>741399803ABG
can they please give a fucking release date for the new one I don't even care if it sucks I just want a date there's literally only 2 other announced games I would guaranteed buy day 1
>>741400774How? It fits perfectly unless we assume the scale is just so off that the puzzle itself is pointless.
>>741400673Does it not fit in C as well?
>>741400774I don't get how it's not E since I made it fit, but I've revised my answer to be A, B, GI'm hesitant to include F since I had to mirror piece 2 to fit it in there. If it's not A, B, G or A, B, F, G then I'm giving up, I'm not going to keep trying to fit pieces into the other shapes

>>741400791Years and years ago, their was a post about women vs men differ when estimating where the water level will sit in a glass when turned at an angle. I could eye ball where the water would settle, and then did the math to get the exact spot, then some anon just broke it up into 3 different triangles or something like that. he made it look so simple and I felt very brainlet.
>>741398809I like how they tell you what the numerals translate too as if they're accounting for those who don't know them, but require you to know that IX = 9 on your own after all lol. It's not hard to know them, but I'm not sure if my shitty burgerschool ever covered them, I just learned it on my own somewhere cause they're neat
>>741399803This one's a million times easier to visualize if you just draw the lines on. Kind of a dick move to not include them, but I guess it wouldn't be a very hard puzzle then.I believe C and E are only ones that don't work.
Alright, alright, it's been long enough so let's post the->>741401252Well done anon, that is definitely a good method.

>>741397828the answer is not zero, because if you put the ice by a fireplace you are not playing by the rules set forth in the card. you may as well just say to drop it from the roof until it smashes into pieces. that's not an answer to the posed question.
>>741398943>>741398809no, once again zero is not an acceptable answer because the question is asking you to move matches. you might as well say wait for an elephant to walk by so the matches shake around and make a valid equation. that's just as legitimate an answer as "walk around to the other side and read it the wrong way".
>>741407102Read the question posed.
>>741407102But the answer is zero because it's not a machine that only opens with hot cup water
>>741407183And how many matches did (You) move when the elephant came by?
>>741407220>>741407194>If you use cups of hot water to melt this ice, how many cups will it take you?>none because i will throw the ice into the sun>wow, fuck you, i'm not coming over anymoreway to go you really solved that one>>741407232none. making it an invalid answer. just like "walk around and read it the wrong way".
>>741407102my dick length is also not zero for the same reasons
>>741407276>If you use cups of hot water to melt this iceTaking words out of your ass I see.>>>>741407232>noneSo, 0. Good job you have solved riddles for 10 year olds.
>>741407330>Taking words out of your ass I see.no, anon. it is not making up words, because i am not autistic, and can infer that my friend is just trying to give me a fun birthday present. anyone who answers zero is a retard who failed to understand that a puzzle is no longer a puzzle when you ignore the rules.>>741407330>So, 0. Good job you have solved riddles for 10 year olds.yes, the wrong answer is "zero". is there something you're not understanding?
>>741398049FUCK YOU
>>741407428>because i am not autisticlmao you almost got me there.
sex with Luke
>>741407547anon, you are autistic if you cannot grasp the concept of a puzzle.
>What is the minimum number of cars you have to touch to get the red car out of the parking lot?>hurr it's zero because it can just drive over the white linesno, faggot. you failed. you got it wrong. you did not understand basic human communication, because of your autism.
>>741407671Exactly. One is also autistic if they lack self awareness. Can't be helped though, I wish you good luck.
>>741407739i'm sorry you are this mad about being demonstrably wrong about something so trivial, but the fact that you stopped trying to defend yourself reveals your realization. you can't take it back either lol
>>741407737Ok but you can just drive over the white lines
>>741407737>He lets white lines tell him what to doBet you love yellow paint too
>>741407737that puzzle would also say you can't go over the white lines and explain how the cars move. No need to imagine situations to appease your anger when there are real examples out there.
>>741407794>>741407795you think you are trying to prove a point, but you were actually allowed to be autistic and answer the question wrong the entire time.
>>741407819sorry, that's also wrong. normal people don't have to say things like "also, you are not allowed to put the ice near a fireplace, or throw it off the roof, or run over it with your car."because normal people understand these things to be a given when their friend sends them a fun birthday present puzzle in the mail. because we are not autistic like you are.
>>741407785You can imagine me mad if that will help you sleep at night, I can continue to explain why you are failing to understand the concept of a puzzle despite you defining it perfectly early on but we'll just be going in circles considering how obtuse you are.You can have the last reply or whatever, I don't mind.
>>741397828>Can you help Prima work out how many cups of hot waterSure, we just divide 2000 grams by 30 and then multiply that by the numbers of cups and...>are necessaryFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
>>741407967>You can have the last reply or whatever, I don't mind.
>>741398040underrated post
>>741407967>I can continue to explainanon you gave up like four posts ago because you realized where it was going to end up. with you looking even more like a wrong retard.
>>741407870Isn't it more autistic to draw entirely in the lines?
>>741408082anon at no point did anyone in this thread say anything about drawing anything in any lines. you might be autistic
>>741408117>anon at no point did anyone in this thread say anything about drawing anything in any linesI did. Just now.
>>741408152LAYTOOOOOOOON
>>741403451the arms are connected anyway, you'd only have to move one either wayi guess you never had a pendulum clock
>>741407737You have to touch one car, the red car.
>>741408317Damn, you're right.
>>741408317Actually, they're all RC cars, so you don't have to touch any of them, making the answer zero. I'm so clever.
>>741405571It's not tricking people. It's getting people to engage in unconventional thinking. The point is to show that our prior knowledge and expectations which usually help us arrive at correct answers can sometimes be used against us.
>>741409620real complex puzzles involving prisoners and logic chains are more fun tho
moon logic bullshit.
>>741402042x^2/15^2 = 4/9
>>741404734Lol
>>741409620We already knew that. Make some real fucking puzzles
>>741405418Pics?
>>741398040lmao true
>Don't do anything. It's actually a trick! It's 0. >>741396992>Why did you put 0? It's not a trick. >>741398809Why are Layton puzzles always like this? Like sure if they're trying to teach you in the beginning of the game that there's always a hidden solution then it's fine but there's always picarats on the line so every puzzle flipflopping between trick and not a trick ruins the point of the puzzles.
>>741396760>I haef one machsteek.
asa from shuffle!
Fuck this one. I was on a train and I think I spent half an hour trying to figure out the answer. I felt aggressively stupid when it dawned on me.
>>741396992Wtf is this retardation. The clock shows 3:30 PM? You want it to show midnight? It's a fucking analog clock, it doesn't show AM or PM
>>741411903Is the answer 1?
>>741411903Did you pick up a male or a female mouse?
>>741411741Is that fucking loss?
>>741411903inb4 the answer is 'you will have no mice but you will have 1 mouse :^)'
>>741411903It's 1 because it mice don't duplicate on their own COUGH eventhoughthepromptimpliesthisbreedofmousecan COUGH
>>741411903>OK, let me spell it out for you. You need your mouse to become pregnant before it will give birth. What does the mouse need in order to become pregnant?Wow game fuck you too
