Back then to be "good" at fighting games meant to have a large amount of the 'tism, putting you on the spectrum. These players you see pumping Blazblue, Guilty Gear, Under Night, anime games specifically, those anons have the 'tism. And to have the 'tism means you can focus more on something than others can because you have nothing to distract you that is in your environment. So, the reason why some of you can't get as good as them, there's a 99% chance the reason being that you get distracted too easy. Things like checking your phone, checking Social Media every 5 minutes, or even posting on 4chan. You simply can't spend a long period of time focusing on the game itself and nothing else. 09ers played games that required you to study arcade match footage on a regularly basis in order to keep up with the meta. You also had to buy the Japanese version of anime games since they came to the west a whole year later if you didn't. That's your Blazblue, Rev2, and UNI 'tism posters. They had no choice. If you were there day 1 you were apart of the spectrum. That's why "Match Database" existed. That's why Jourdal's Youtube channel exist. That's why TAS exist. That's why Combo Movies exist. It was made for the 'tism players. Spend all day watching matches. Then spend all day in training mode learning tech. And when you're ready leave the training mode and test your new abilities on other players. The moral of the story is, 09ers think fighting games are bad today because they lack the 'tism they demand their games to have. It is their biggest and only request for developers to put back into the games. To a lot of them Fighting games lacking the 'tism is the biggest crime ever committed in the FGC.

Why do they not simply make a modern fighting game where some characters are very hard to execute on and some characters are very easy.Honestly I'm not even sure if all the easier execution is a real problem. There're other ways to get combo variety and it's really just strange that modern fighters don't enforce them if they're going to be enforcing combo structure anyways. Yeah combos are a huge barrier.It's why smash is so popular, you pick the controller and you just go at it, learning as you go.Meanwhile all other fighting games are stuck in 1999 when games were expensive and you didnt had a huge choice when it came to which game you want to play.Now you can get a hundred games for 5 bucks nobody's (except autists) staying in practice mode for 9999hours to do twice as much damage.
