how can anyone genuinely enjoy this?
im 2 hours in, and it still feels like handholdy tutorial
I feel like it combines everything wrong with modern gaming
terrible writing, handholding and movie game "gameplay"
>>
>>741414526
a streamer i liked played it and i was really struck by how awful it was as a viewer. it's probably fine if you're playing it but it's so passive because even the streamer has no agency and is just going through the motions of each scripted sequence. going from this to him streaming Goldeneye days earlier was such a whiplash. everyone liked Goldeneye more because it was so much more fun and open.
>>
because its not james bond hitman
its james bond uncharted. they never said it was gonna be james bond hitman, that was just the fallacy of "these are the hitman devs, therefore every game they make is hutman"
>>
>>741414526
I enjoyed it. Have you considered you don't have a high enough IQ for James Bond media?
>>
>>741414924
Then why bother giving it to IOI if it's going to just be a budget Uncharted but with Hitman's button layout?
And yeah unfortunately the game sucks. The tutorial is longer than two actual Bond movies put together and even over halfway through the game you're doing THRILLING, action packed gameplay like
>Slowly escort an old cripple through an empty office building and get nagged at.

Uninstalled pirated copy after prologue. I wouldn't mind the generic "gameplay" but it doesn't feel right. Just trash.

>>
>>741414526
It’s a good Bond game and has good combat, but Hitman mogs it as an actual game in general. I wouldn’t mind a sequel that’s a bit less railroady, but I’m glad they’re going back to Hitman.
>>
/v/ continues to have a serious hateboner for this game.
>>
>>741414526
I got past the chess mission and the ship graveyard. I didn't have much fun. Too much exposition, slow walking listening to dialogue, driving listening to dialogue, climbing around to unlock paths, cliche characters, side objectives that pad the time even more (did we really need to stretch the mission out by having to obtain 100k..?)
It's the same song and dance as any movie game you've played before but with the context of 007 which doesn't really do much to elevate it. Felt like a game that was made 15 years ago and released in 2026 for some reason. Would've been nice to play back then, but today? Not really.
The whole time I was thinking "I could open up Hitman right now and have 10x the amount of fun." It's too difficult not to compare the two because you realize it's watered down of any potentially fun and varied gameplay the devs are already known to be capable of. Decided to drop it.
>>
>>741414526
Yeah, that's what I thought. The sequence before the title really feels like the tutorial, but then everything after is just more tutorial, but it's intersped with "press W to walk" sequences, and by the time you get to the end of the "training montage" it STILL feels like a tutorial with no game in sight. What a weird decision to do it that way
>>
It's Hitman Absolution with a Bond skin. You never get any actual freedom like in Hitman WoA.

no lol.
Compare this to 007 for the GameCube Agent Underfire
that shit is fun as fuck, jetpacks, grappling hooks, Frenesi Shotguns that shoot fast af, rocket launchers with guidable missiles.

This game punishes you for using guns lmao, it wants you to Batman Arkham slop every encounter or use stealth take downs. It doesnt want you to use weaponry and go guns blazing like you know... ALL OTHER 007 games?

>>
>>741416553
...you can absolutely go guns blazing in this game.
Have you got filtered by the combat, or are stupid enough not to realize the game wants you to mix and match guns and melee?
>>
>>741414850
>probably fine if you're playing it
It really isn't. The game practically plays itself
>>
It's a shame. I think they nailed the bond feeling but from what I've played so far, I just wish it was Hitman. It feels like an incredibly railroaded hitman with the occasional uncharted set piece.
>>
>>741416776
Ask me how I know you haven't played it?
>>
>>741416471
It makes sense from a story perspective, since they want you to have some slice of life shenanigans with the other 00 agents so you’re somewhat attached to them when they get killed off, but it does lead to an awkward position where the nightclub is the first “real” level. The whole thing feels paced like a TV show.

>>741416473
I would describe it as a micro WoA with Uncharted elements. You do get SOME freedom, but that freedom basically amounts to you only having two approaches to each situation. It’s like if in a watered down WoA, except the only choice you get is what mission stories you follow. There are moments that genuinely feel like adventure game puzzles because of how limited the solutions are.
>>
first few hours fun, then it drags
>>
>>741416819
>I would describe it as a micro WoA with Uncharted elements
...so Hitman: Absolution.
I don't know why people expect this game to be WoA, when IOI was pretty open in the marketing that it wouldn't be WoA.
>>
>>741416553
The combat is surprisingly excellent with its John Wick style gun-fu approach to combat. It’s just a waste because there’s so few combat sections in the game, the game encourages a stealthy approach (with stealth mechanics that are dumbed down from Hitman’s), and no bosses except Monroe and The Twins are proper fist fights.
>>

>>
>>741416360
>good combat
What part of that combat is good? TPS mechanics couldn't be any more basic, can't even shoot while climbing. Melee mechanics are just bamham minus all the cool abilities that made bamham combat fun
>b-b-but you can hack enemies during combat
And it feels clunky and retarded, in bamham combat gadgets are fun to use
>>
>>741416849
I feel it’s the inverse. The tutorial sections are a drag, but then it becomes fun.
>>

>aim assist pushes the crosshair towards enemies heads (can't be turned off)

The fact that ammo is limited and the combat incentivises disarming enemies to open them up for melee finishers is neat. Plus, even though the melee is simple, the animations and the fact you can use the environment make it feel good.

More like a third person point and click game. Social "stealth" is a joke of a genre
>>
>>741417225
Throwing guns at enemies, kicking guns out of enemies hands and taking them yourself, and the fact you can seamlessly transition between shooting and hand-to-hand.

Surprisingly, I think it’s the stealth that’s barebones, which is weird to me, because they could have just recycled Hitman’s stealth, which is way better.

There are two types of First Light players

You see it as an inferior copy of those games that doesn't even bother to combine the three formulas, it just separates them into different parts of the game. Here's the bit where we play Hitman for 30 minutes. Then Watch Dogs, then Uncharted.

this combo alone is an infinite, whats the point of guns except on the sections where they are obligatory. The game sucks and is extremely linear in the boring way, so it can pan out

older 007 games were instant you can speedrun every mission if you wanted. No almost down time. And the multiplayer was fun af.

I think the worst part of the game is that it unironically does what those “if X was a modern game” parody videos do where you have either James or an NPC giving you hints every two seconds, even during the FINAL BOSS. Hard to believe IO made this when Hitman WoA was the antithesis of this kind of design.

I played all those games, and I still enjoyed first light. The opening is pretty weak, but from mission 2 forward I really liked the game. I respected the attempt to give the player as much agency as possible in a fairly on-rails movie game. It borrows a lot for sure, but there's really nothing wrong with that if you do it well. Which this game does.
My only complaint is the yellow paint and handholding not being toggleable. The combat and stealth mechanics work really well, there's some MGSV in there with how you can disarm, dick around and switch between melee and shooting on the fly. The AI could have been better, and I could see some more depth in the mechanics being thrown in through DLC or updates.
And it should be said, the game runs really well, and the single bugs I saw were some physics jank.
>>
>>741414526
I'm still early in the game, the actual tutorial and the chess tournament I really enjoyed, the Somalian boat graveyard was the real suddenly uncharted. Hopefully it gets better

Pierce Brosnan bond aka The Architect was based af and akin to the Punisher and will never be out done. The games were badass af too.
>>
I enjoyed my time with the game. Finished it a couple days ago. I like more straightforward experiences like this in-between games like Deadlock of Path of Exile 2. There's a distinct lack of polished action/adventure games these days. Uncharted, The tomb raider games, maybe TLOU, and this kind of fit in there while mixing in some hitman-lite elements. My only complaint was that most of the combat was too easy. A few sections had me try it a few times (on hardest difficulty) but it generally didn't feel like it required me to use all the tools at my disposal to overcome combat challenges. I could pretty easily just headshot everyone, even the armored guys. A handful of scenarios forced me to mix it up with hand to hand, shooting, stealth and gadgets. It was those moments where I thought that if they had more of exactly that, it'd be perfect.

Oh I should add I can't stand the shooting gallery segments. They have all together way too many guys and the fun of the game is being able to switch between stealth, shooting and fighting on the spot it becomes annoying when it focuses on one completely.

>>
>>741418454
I was genuinely surprised the part in the museum in the room with the digital screens could be stealthed. There’s also the rescue Isola part in Vietnam, but I feel that you need specific gadgets for stealth in that section to be possible.
>>
>>741417141
Even worse they make the villains white and the white main character a bitch who gets humiliated by everyone else
>>
>>741418623
>main character a bitch who gets humiliated by everyone else

The entire game is about how Bond gets proven right about everything, and everyone else around him is incompetent.

If you’re referring to him getting captured and rescued, that’s practically a staple of the movies.
>>
>>741416553
The game absolutely does not punish you for using guns. It punishes you for trying to do an entire encounter in one spot when you can't hit shit. As someone without that problem I actively had to stop myself from just shooting everyone in the head and ending the encounter without doing anything cool
Holding RMB to aim is always available with license to kill even when you're throwing hands andgadget/ chucking a weapon + takedown automatically steals their weapon
>>
>>741417580
>because its been a while since the last uncharted and good watch dogs
Fair but I still couldn't shake the feeling that I'd rather be replaying the games it copied. WD2's stealth is just same but better, the drones and the camera hopping made hacking a lot more elaborate. Same with combat and social stealth, U4 and nu-Hitman are just same but better. I guess you can't hack things in nu-Hitman but it's not like social stealth segments use hacking in a clever way in this game, I'd rather have bigger hubs with more opportunities
>>
>>741418579
It can but it's fucking hard. I think it took me about 5 attempts. Some parts are clearly just designed for combat. And what's the incentive for stealth anyway? All it does is waste your time.
>>
>>741414850
Devs these days forget how to make mindless fun like it was directed by Michael Bay and non stop action bang bang bang flowing gun fight to gun fight or very swifty running through a bunch of enemies while getting your objectives done.

Why because they gotta make everything "realistic" which is boring as fuck.

So hacking a computer must take more or less like half the time it would take to hack a computer.

Who gives a fuck bout modern gaming. Push a button once bam the computer is hacked, move on. Bang Bang Bang, kill faggots, get objectives done, onto the next, bang bang, grappling hook, jetpack. All of this gives instant free expression on how to approach your objectives.
>>
>>741418894
That specific part in Vietnam has a challenge tied to stealthing it, so you need to do it at least once if you’re a completionist.
>>
>>741415408
Because WoA has mechanics and tech that is already like 75% there for what you'd need for 007, all it needs is to remove disguises, slightly nerf stealth, add the social system and make the combat bond-like

The story is perfectly fine I just wanted a game like tenchu where you go into a mission, kill a guy and go to the next. You don't need 100 cutscenes setting up who Bond's fellow agents are you can just dump us into a mission and have them show up along the way
>>
>>741416449
>(did we really need to stretch the mission out by having to obtain 100k..?)
I found that to be the only good part that is moderatly memorable and a bond game should have side objectives to get money to buy intel/weapons/bribes with while you're working to uncover then stop the main villain
Helps flesh out the world of assassination international espionage and mystery when you find a drug cartel moving 500euro bills, albanian arms dealers, or a bootleg vuitton smuggler who doesn't do anything for MI6 or the villain but is just there to be beaten up or blackmailed for money.
>>741417278
>combat incentivises disarming enemies to open them up for melee finishers is neat
How? shooting them in the head so they die is faster.
>>
I really liked the general gameplay from the stealth/shooting/melee, even the driving was decent despite being on rails sections you basically can't fail.

All the movie game stuff kills the pacing and grants you less freedom though, so I wonder how you'd adapt it to a more Hitman Style game? I think there's potential, the current TacSim missions suck though.

I assume IOI will have DLC out the ass for this game. A second campaign as a pseudo sequel to the first like Hitman could be pretty good. I just want the game to stop taking all my fucking weapons and gadgets for arbitrary reasons.

Also Lenny Kravitz being in the game was random as fuck.

No it's the social stealth "gameplay" that kills the pacing. Quit every time I got to one of those bits because I just can't be arsed. You literally just walk around the area and talk to NPCs for half an hour, and then maybe pickpocket or follow someone for a little bit. And it's not like you have to figure anything out, it's all highlighted and you're told what to do. Boring
