>god I fucking hate being the protagonist
he doesn't know he's in a video game
>>741416332If this game was written 20 years later he would.
>>741416346
>>741415872You're implying the wrong context. He's listening to them argue about whose going to be team leader for the infiltration mission and gets tired of it and makes the choice himself.
>>741415872if you apply your life like Squall, youll always winJust respond to every situation IRL with "Whatever".
>>741415872>everyone is relying on me>I've just been retarded this whole timeIt wears on you.
>>741415872If you didn't send Zell, Selphie and Quistis, you are a bad leader.
>>741415872They should remake the game but actually finish this time around. The original vision would have mogged FF7
>>741420794what was cut?
>>741420703The fact you can choose to send Rinoa to the missile base is wild to me considering that she already proved during the assassination mission that she’s a liability unless Squall is there to keep her in check. You also miss out on some cute moments between the two of them at Balamb if you send her.
>>741421038Most of Laguna's content. It was originally 50/50 Squall and Laguna. Laguna would have had a traversible world map.
SOVL
>>741417616You joke, but nonchalance makes women wet.
FF8 and 9 were both letdowns
>>741421513maybe in 2010. Now it just pisses them off.
>>741421387You need to send Rinoa to the missile base because if you don't, she will have an FMV scene on the Balamb Garden balcony when the Garden starts to move and it can get the game stuck. So unless you absolutely need to see the FMV of Rinoa looking at some birds and risk losing hours of progression when the FMV gets fucked up, you send her to the missile base.
>>741422327>>741421387Also Squall, Zell and Quistis are Balamb mains so it makes sense for them to go Balamb to warn everyone of the missile strike. Selphie was freshly transferred from Trabia, Irvine is from Galbadian Garden and Rinoa is Rinoa so it makes sense Selphie, Irvine and Rinoa go to missile base while Squall, Zell and Quistis return to their home to try save it
>>741415872>one of our people is missing and shit's exploding everywhere, but we need guidance on what to do with the hot dogs RIGHT NOW
>>741422327I brought Rinoa to Balamb and had zero issues.
Finished 8 for the 4th time recently. Now playing 7 to see what all the hype is about
>>741421650It pisses them off because secretly it makes them wet but society/other women around them demand that they keep pretending like it doesnt.
>>741421038Disc 3 and 4 were rushed for deadlines in the same way that Diablo 2 Act 4 was. Hell, Disc 4 is literally just 1 dungeon and 2 boss fights (one optional)
>>741415872Dear god, I can barely remember anything about that game. I can maybe remember two or three parts of the game although it's slowly coming back to me. I'm starting to remember a few more things but I can instantly think of dozens of places or events in FF7 and FF10. What made this one so forgettable?
uh oh I think that anon spent too much time with his GF
>>741422327Just save
>>741423942No, I just send Rinoa to missile base>>741423247>Hell, Disc 4 is literally just 1 dungeon and 2 boss fightsNo, Ultimecia castle has lots of boss fights. Each defeated boss unlocks one of the aspects that get sealed when you step in.Also if you did Card Club quest in Balamb Garden, all the CC members are in Ragnarok in Disc 4 and you can win back any card you missed, lost or refined.
>>741423063Didn't really like 7 much on my first playthrough. Only on another run years later it clicked with me. My expectations were way too high because of the fame so it soured my experience when I didn't get mindblown at every opportunity. Only later when I was judging it on its own merits it became a very solid game to me.
>>741415872Literally the coolest protagonist in all of vidya
>>741424146I feel FF8 and 9 were bound to fail to satisfy fans of 7, because 7 was hyped to such an unreasonable degree that no one would have accepted anything other than a total copycat sequel. I respect 8 and 9 a lot for doing something different from 7 rather than trying to copy it. I feel it’s made them age better as a result.
>>741424978I feel like the only weak point of 8 is the plot. 9's is the turns taking forever. Other than that, I think they are almost flawless games.
>>741425318Yes, 9 is slog and slow. Also you can't affect when to utilize Trance and there's less of character customization and side stuff. Treno's battle arena is a joke, Tetra Master is a step down from Triple Triad and the only side stuff with actual meaningful rewards is Chocobo Hot And Cold and treasure hunting with Chocographs you get from Chocobo Hot and Cold.
>>741415872He's trapped in one of the worst Final Fantasy games and tied to (arguably) the most annoying love interest in the series. I'd be a bitchy cunt too.
>>741425318>>741425420Also whose bright idea was to have interactive limit breaks in FF8, then take them away for FF9 and then bring them back for FF10. FF9 is comfy but god damn the player agency is reduced comapared to the others. And 1/255 chance to steal Fairy Flute from Hill Gigas when you can just buy the damn flute 2 hubs later and it doesn't even give any meaningful abilities. The only "new" ability it gives is Esuna and at that point you can either use debuff specific medicine via items by any character.
>>741422398No, it makes more sense to have Balamb's SEEDs stop the missile strike. Rinoa and Irvine have no skin in the game.
>>741425538I'm trans by the way
>>741425541Irivine is accustomed to Galbadian customs and was already tasked to get Rinoa out of Galbadian prison and he helped the others escape too, so it makes sense for Irvine to help take down Galbadian missile base too. Rinoa is daughter of Galbadian general and lived in Galbadia before becoming terrorist/freedom fighter for Galbadian occupied Timber so she too would know more about Galbadia. Irvine also has a thing for Selphie so it would be wrong to separate them and Rinoa's FMV can freeze the game in Balamb so she goes Missile Base.
Squall should have just fucked his teacher. Maybe if he'd gotten laid he'd stop being such an insufferable whiny cunt.
>>741415872I would hate to lead FFVIII's party too
>>741425787Squall had repressed memories of Quistis being bossy bitch when they were kids.
>>741425787>>741425824Quistis has Bad Breath
>>741426016She also stops wearing glasses after Dollet Mission. I guess she got tired of buying new glasses each time she used her Laser Eye limit break
Cid being married to Edea is less believable than the party members knowing each other as kids
>>741417616I've been using the Solid Snake approach for awhile. Is the Squall tactic better?
>>741426312He's funny, charismatic and devoted. Edea knew he would never cheat on her and that she's the best thing in his life.
>>741426312All sorceresses want to fuck robin williams
>>741426312>Adopt orphans from the war to his affluent private school>Stuff GF's into their head knowing full well it gives them amnesia Cid. Diddled. Kids. Or Norg did. Either way why would you give preteens something known to cause amnesia unless...?
>>741427004If SeeD can't defeat Ultimecia, it's game over for the world so training orphans to be soldiers and have them use GFs causing memory loss is a small price to pay. Not to mention Edea learned Squall becoming SeeD and defeating Ultimecia in future as dying Ultimecia and adult Squall appeared to her orphange and her accepting Ultimecia's power. The time loop was already filled so all they had to do was to go through the motions. And they did and world was saved and everyone got to live their lives happily ever after
>>741425737I do feel like Rinoa going to Balamb is the intended/canon path considering there’s a whole alternate FMV for it, plus we get extra, otherwise missable bits of romantic development between her and Squall that way.You also have to think about it from a mercenary’s perspective as well: Rinoa is Squall’s client, and sending your client into a potential suicide mission is a bad move, plus she knows Cid personally, so she’d probably be able to persuade him.
I replayed 8 during the coof and I enjoyed it just as much as I did when it first came out. I redid 7 too, and while I used to maintain I liked 8 more than 7, I had to put 7 ahead of it replaying them as an old man and trying to be objective.Fucking love 8 still though
>>741427314Isnt the entire issue caused by the gfs erasing ryonas memory?
>>741427556>Rinoa is Squall’s client, and sending your client into a potential suicide mission is a bad move,Whatever. Wanna play cards?
>>741415872>Ugh, I hate being sexy and popular so much....>ugh, why are my friends so nice and supportive....>ugh, why am I so important and cool and rich and handsome god my life is so hardI unironically fucking hate Squall he's the worst Final Fantasy protagonist
>>741427847He’s scared of trusting people and being vulnerable because the last time that happened, he got hurt.
>>741427847Low IQ take. Squall's cold attitude is because of his chilhood trauma of him feeling his big sis Ellone abandoned him. So to protect his feelings he refuses to let himself get attached again. Eventually he forgets the exact reason but he remembers it's a cope mechanism that works
>>741428029>>741428007I don't give a shit about why he's an uncharismatic dickhead, he should have been a side character instead of the party leader if he was going to be an angsty fuck that hates everyone and hates doing everything.
>>741428161He doesn't hate everyone and everything. He loves everyone and everything so much he is scared of losing everyone and everything so much he needs to pretend he hates everyone and everything so much. Are you american?
>>741428161>>741428241I can believe people have been buying into this narrative for 20 years. Cloud was also moody with depth beneath that moody exterior and people loved him.
>>741428241Unless he has some massive change of heart on Disc 2 I never saw him act like that. I stopped playing after a dozen hours or so because I couldn't stand Squall as a protagonist, I liked every other party member much more than him and just wished I could play a game where Zell was the main character instead
>>741428007>>741428029>hurr durr he's acts like a little bitch because he actually is a little bitchThat doesn't make him anymore likable. Why are Jap games always about damaged people? They've always got some sort of abandonment issue or mommy issue or are secretly gay for their best friend or secretly in love with their own sister or some other retarded shit. What is wrong with Japs? I though the west was supposed to be the place full of mentally ill people? Thank God all the awesome western games don't have this faggot shit. Could you imagine if in Call of Duty Soap had some sort of neurosis that caused him to sulk like a fucking child all the time and feel sorry for himself? That's definitelynot making Call of Duty a better game. In fact, I think one of the Call of Duty characters actually does have a somewhat tragic past but you'd never know anything about this because the game doesn't grind to a halt every five seconds while he cries about it. God, I hate Jap writing so much.
>>741428161He smiles in the cutscene after the credits where it's revealed he survived. Before that the ending is homevideo shot by Selphie and Irvine with Squall nowhere seen and the player is left to wonder if he survived. The video shows Quistis and Irvine talking with Edea and Cid at the party, then Zell sitting with the ponytailed librarian girl and almost choking on the hotdogs, Selphie wearing Irvine's hat and then the camera starts following Angelo who's going to Rinoa who's standing in the balcony. Then the credits roll and after them the balcony scene is shown more and it's revealed Squall is there and him and Rinoa embrace, maybe even kiss and the point of view is changed behing the Garden as it looks as if it's flying towards the moon
>>741428161>Game literally shows you the actual thoughts the characters are thinking>People still misunderstand the characters this hardEmbarrassing
>>741415872>squallHas to go to Balamb>quistisFailed during the assassination mission, has to be directly under Squall and go to missile base>rinoaIs an idiot, has to go to Balamb>selphiaHas to go to the missile base>zellIs a hot head but knows shit and is a good fighter, should go to the missile base>irvineKnows galbadia, should go to missile base
Final Rantasy
>>741428530>>Game literally shows you the actual thoughts the characters are thinking
>>741428704>>741428723>>741428746https://legendsoflocalization.com/articles/ff8-squall-whatever-japanese/
>>741428362It's not so much of massive change of heart, it's more of player learning that as kid Squall stand in the rain lamenting the disappearance of his big sis Ellone and he vows to do just fine alone. Even after that he does have his cold dickish behavior and Rinoa tries to force him open and the others too are trying to open him up. In the space scene where Rinoa is floating around about to die, Squall jumps to suicide attempting to save her and they only survive because the abandoned spaceship Ragnarok happens to float there too. In Ragnarok after killing the 4 pairs of colored aliens Rinoa and Squall share a moment with Rinoa sitting on Squall's lap and telling how she used to cling on her mother too when she was a child and it brought her comfort and Squall felt uncomfortable because of his repressed memories of his childhood as he felt abandoned and after the moment the ground control inform once they land, they going to take Rinoa away and seal her so she can't be used as vessel by Ultimecia which once again plays to Squall wanting to detach beause he attachment means hurting and he lets them take Rinoa away until the rest of the party comes and convinces Squall that he needs to go rescue Rinoa and that's what Rinoa too would want. So Seifer whose dream was to be Sorceress' knight and seeking self-worth by allowing himself to become lapdog for unironically evil sorceress failed where Squall who never intended to become Sorceress' Knight unknowingly becomes one. Also the Sorceress' Knight was a movie Squall's dad Laguna starred in in the past and Seifer picked up his gunblade stance from it along with his romantic dream.
>>741428660To be fair, the assassination mission would have succeeded had Irvine not choked and fired the shot too late. Quistis made it back in time to close the gates on time.Plus, it turns out that Balamb would have been in even deeper shit if the assassination was successful because Martine planned on having Balamb take the fall for it.
>>741422327Was this a problem on the original? I swear I had an issue like this and thought my disc was scratched.
>>741428362>i didn't play the gameEvery time.
>>741429013Happened to me on emulator but i read it was common for the PS hardware too. Something Something the transistion from regular field to the FMV prone to freezing
>>741429013My disc froze during the assassination, which meant I couldn’t finish the game until years later. I’m guessing FFVIII just had a bunch of scuffed copies in circulation.
>>741427847You read the fan fiction version of him. The translation isn't very good even by the standards of the time. "Whatever" isn't even what he says
>>741426330The Solid Snake Approach?
>>741421387you should do both because their reunion scene is better than the balamb fmv
>>741429087I’m guessing it also probably has something to do with the fact that VIII has a lot of interactive AMVs where you can fully control the characters. It’s a miracle the PS1 could handle that without buckling.
>>741429013>>741429103I could never get past the first Edea fight in 8 because the disc would freeze during the CG cut-scene right afterward I always thought it was because my disc was borked
>>741429156its still clear even in english.
the fact that the inexplicable trust in Squall from Cid and others finally makes sense at the end is great writing, and i'm tired of people shitting on the "dub"
>>741427004war and sacrifices and themes and such
>>741426330you gotta mix it up sometimes
>>741429103>>741429185I had my PS1 laying on its side because I read online it could help. And it did. I managed to play through FF9 too but on my replay FF9's disc 3 simply stopped working. My console was making noise trying to read it but nope, didn't work. I went to the store I bought it from and told them the situation and they gave me a new copy and told me other customers complained about it too. The new copy didn't work either. I guess too old PS1 models couldn't handle the later games.
>>741427004Cid is an idiot. He's told to start a mercenary school and almost immediately loses control of it to NORG.
I want VIII to be remade, not because I like it, but because I'm morbidly curious to see how Time Compression would be rendered in modern graphics
>>741430393nah it would need to be remade whole, with plot and events and other things. we don't know what is time compression. we don't know anything adequate about orphanage, about gf memory thing, about hyne, about ultimecianothing happens in ff8, there are literally people that are saying "oh, there was recently your father going around, 17 years ago"
>>741429316Mix it up, huh?
>>741431198>we don't know anything adequate about orphanage, about gf memory thing, about hyne, about ultimeciaAll of that is either explained in game or left as an intentional mystery.
>>741431536ahah yea half of plot is missing, this is intentional mystery
>>741431198>we don't know what is time compressionultimecia using junction machine ellone to "connect" to ellone through time to compress time, this is explained in game> we don't know anything adequate about orphanageafter raine died squall and ellone are sent there, the rest are war orphans from the war with adel, this is explained in game or heavily implied (only laguna is squalls dad is never stated explicitly)> about gf memory thingthis is explained AT THE START if you read the computer>about hynefirst valid pointif you had said "Selphie junctioned a GF so long ago she can't remember its name????!?" you'd have a point.but, despite everything it DOES need the remake treatment, with a more 1:1 approach than 7. a little disappointing that square announced no more remakes after revelation 5 minutes ago so we won't get one until i'm 50
>>741431868A remake of VIII would completely destroy the vibe and aesthetic of the game. I feel the atmosphere couldn’t be translated.
>>741431404Whatever
>>741423269>what made this one so forgettable?Equipping GFs
>>741432017yeah well, remastered isn't good enough. a downgrade even depending on version (pc has fucking midis)also if hobbyists can do it on youtube and get the aesthetic right so can billion dollar company
>>741423063Even if you don't like the plot, the materia system lets you go full autism with job customization (except the game is piss easy so you'll never have to take advantage of it).
>>741423063You get Steal materia in sewers. After the sewers it's train graveyard. There you can steal Ethers from the small dragon enemies and they sell for lot of gil so consider spending some time raking them up. There's also rare enemy encounter there, Eligor, a death looking like enemy with a horse carriage, you can steal weapon for Aerith from it.The next important steal spot is in Shinra HQ, the Soldier 3rd Class enemies have a sword for Cloud to steal.Once you in World Map, the area around Midgar has Sweeper enemies that teach enemy skill Matra Magic if you holding Enemy Skill materia when getting hit by it.Once you Cait Sith joins, he comes with Manipulate materia and you can return to the first continent via Costa Del Sol (drive your buggy into it and you can bring it to the first continent too). With Manipulate you can make the green Zemzelett enemies use White Wind on you to learn it as Enemy Skill. You can also go fight the big snake at the swamp and learn Beta enemy skill from it (it's fire elemental so bring fire protection). The cave across the river in the first continent Junon area has sleeping man who gives elemental rings and Mystle key item if you talk to him when your fought battles number's last 2 digits are in doubles (44, 122, 133 and so on).The beaches around the Gold Saucer have octopus enemies you can Manipulate for Big Guard enemy skill. The deathclaws in Desert Prison have Laser enemy skill. The Chimeras around Gold Saucer have Aqualung enemy skill, easy way to proc Chimera fight is to use Chocobo Lure in chocobo tracks near Gold Saucer).Materia Keeper has Trine enemy skill and you can only learn Trine from it, red Stilva enemies in icicle caves and Yuffie's sub-quest's boss. The icicile caves close off after clearing them and Materia Keeper and Yuffie's boss are one-time fights so make sure you pick Trine from them.
>>741433045ignore this guy.Enemy Skill provides absolutely busted abilities that trivialize the game.
>>741423063if you thought time compression was a mindfuck wait until you (extreme spoilers), you ain't seen nothing yet. have fun.the original, right? not remake first. its a sequel.
>>741429157A HIND D?!
>>741429037There's a difference between >I didn't play itand >I didn't finish it because I didn't like it
>>741432432>except the game is piss easy so you'll never have to take advantage of itThis is a problem I have with alot of FF games. 8 is actually a favourite of mine because the level scaling and junction system means that you have to engage with the mechanics and can’t just spam attack and grind to win.
Speaking of FFVIII, FFVIII and KH share similar themes, motifs, and plot elements it's not even funnySee picrel for starters
Also https://files.catbox.moe/39sy7c.mp4
>>741433045thanks for the tips anon
>>741433675>8 is actually a favourite of mine because the level scaling and junction system means that you have to engage with the mechanics and can’t just spam attack and grind to win.No you just raise your max HP to thousands, keep your current HP in yellows and shift turns until the character hits Limit Break. Totally different thing. And if you can't afford to keep your HP in yellows, you just cast Aura on yourself and Meltdown on the enemy and you proc some limit breaks.
>>741433406>until you (extreme spoilers)the death scene? pretty much unavoidable unless I was living under a rock
>>741433920i mean jenova and way to ignore spoiler tags for anon who stated very clearly they haven't played 7 before, im out I can't relate to you morons anymore you just shit on everything and think its funny or something, im out.
>>741433920The death scene is known spoiler. The actual spoiler is later and it's difficult to explain unless you know the premise. When playing, keep in mind unreliable narrator.
>>741433045>sleeping man who gives elemental rings and Mystle key item if you talk to him when your fought battles number's last 2 digits are in doubles (44, 122, 133 and so on).
>decide to replay any FF from 7/8/9/10>hmm I don't remember the missables>look up a guide>several side quests and summons are permanently missable if you don't do obscure thing at a small time window in the game>either I follow a guide which sucks or never complete a lot of sidequests>get disillusioned and don't play the game>repeat a few years later
>>741429693he had to borrow money from the usual suspects
>>741433694KH1’s plot is literally just a rehash of FFVIII’s plot:>Riku is Seifer>Kairi is Rinoa (complete with the “she’s secretly a witch and important to the villain’s plan”)>Maleficent and Ansem pull double duty as Ultimecia, being shadowy villains who manipulate the rival characters>Keyblades are obviously a stand in for gunblades>main antagonist’s goal is to consume all of existence>lots of surreal sequences>finale of the game involves going through a gothic castle housing a witch and then fighting the final boss in a black void>a big late game event that makes high level monsters spawn all over the worldThe only real difference is that they replaced VIII’s military/spec ops aesthetic with something that feels like a blend of FFX and Disney.
>>741433672If you play 12 hours of a 60 hour long game you shouldn’t comment on the story or characters because you didn’t actually experience it.
>>741433672Not liking it is fine, commenting on characters like you know them is the problem
>>741434408How long do you have to play the game before Squall becomes a nicer person?
>>741434553until the post-credits scene
>>741434098>when you forget to draw a gf from an enemy 2 hours back
>>741434098There are very few missables that actually matter. It's more of autism thing.FF9 has Excalibur 2 you can only get if you speed run the game but it does fucking nothing because you are hitting 9999 max damage without it anyways.FF8 has some GFs to draw from bosses (if missed, can be drawn from the bosses in Final Dungeon). Cards yeah, but once again, can be won in Disc 4 if you did Card Club in Balamb. I guess the Card Club quest is missable that can matter in long run. There are some instances of getting access to super good GF abilities if you get Rosetta stone or other ability teaching item but once again, it's not like you'd be struggling without them. Diablos GF and the Magic Lamp it comes from is missable because you need to talk to Cid before going to Timber to get it. It's important because Diablos learns Enc-None to remove random battles if you want.FF7 gives access to better weapons early if you steal them from enemies. Enemy Skill Pandora Box can be learned only once per save file, the first time Dragon Zombie random enemy in final dungeon dies. Ramuh summon materia can be picked up only once in Chocobo Race jockey area. Miss it and you can't make Master Summon materia but you can win Master Summon materia by beating Emerald Weapon and bringing its loot to the man in Kalm. But at that point why would you even need it? And to be honest do you even need the Master Summon, Master Magic or Master Command at that point when you would get them as they require all the other materias in that set to be mastered? Cait Sith and Barret's final weapons are missable, can only be picked during return to Midgar. Cait Sith's weapon requires you to go check the locker in Shinra HQ, Barret's requires you to have Barret in party when climbing the stairs to the cannon.
>>741434206It gets even funnier if you get balls deep into the lore from the other games.>There's a group of mostly child/teen Keyblade wielders called the Dandelions, who were secretly being prepared for an apocalyptic war>Dandelions = seeds that get scattered about. Seeds. SeeDs.>Ventus, one of the main heroes from Birth by Sleep, is eventually revealed to have secretly been one of these ancient Dandelions. He survived from the distant past into the future, but he has no memory of it.And that's just the tip of the iceberg, there's many more FF8 parallels
>>741434553End of disc 1, and into disc 2 where he starts being thrust into leadership roles.
>>741415872>SAVE THE HOT DOGS!
>>741434553I'd say the first big change is after CD 2. At the end of CD 2 you fight Edea again and after beating her, the sorceress Ultimecia possessing Edea jumps into Rinoa and Rinoa goes coma. Before that Squall was annoyed with Rinoa forcing herself on Squall, demanding his ring so she can make a copy of it for herself, throwing a party on Squall becoming the leader and Squall overall being annoyed by her. Then when he sees Rinoa just laying there knowing he had brought her to danger and her getting hit by the risk, he decides to forfeit everything and carry Rinoa over the bridge connecting the continents with a faint hope that the ellusive Eshtar country could have cure for her. As he carries her on his back, he takes a break and lowers her down and he starts speaking out of his mind and ironically comments it's like talking to a wall (same expression he mocked Quistis with when Quistis wanted to talk about her feelings to him).
>>741434592Most things aren’t missable in VIII because it’s actually possible to get back to the Ragnarok in Disc 4 (though it’s a bit of an ordeal to reach). Plus, any missed GFs can be found in Ulti’s castle like you said (I think Carbuncle is the only truly missable one). That said, I’m not sure how else you’re supposed to get the Gilgamesh card unless you complete the CC club side quest before time compression. And I’m not sure how you’re supposed to be able to beat Omega Weapon without either Holy Wars or maxing out every party member’s HP.
It’s funny how the only character anyone ever discusses is Squall because he’s the only character who isn’t a flat piece of cardboard in the entire game.Genuinely one of the worst casts in a JRPG ever.
>>741434950>and I’m not sure how you’re supposed to be able to beat Omega Weapon without either Holy WarsLaguna card turns into 100 Heroes. They give invincibility to one character while Holy Wars give it to the whole party.>maxing out every party member’s HP.You max out HP to 9999 very early. But I know what you mean, the Omega Weapon big boy attack without invincibility would require max HP, protect or shell and summoning GF to take up the damage
>>741435110Selphie is a fun character.People discuss Squall because the game is about him. All the other characters are there to further his development.
>>741434553Disc 3
>>741434592Those are mostly just powerful items. Not missing side stories is more important for the game experience. In FF9 a lot of Moogles are hiding in barrels or behind objects with only a few pixels of them visible. If you miss any of them, you can no longer do the Mognet letter delivery side quest. Some of the rare beans for the coffee side quest are permanently missable, one with a very small window of opportunity. Stitzkin is also permanently missable. Many of the moonstones are missable.Festival of the Hunt basically requires you to look up a guide so you know that you need to let specific characters get KO'd if you want the card reward.Several Active Time Events which is story content and character building are very easy to miss.
>>741435371Thank you for reminding me why I don't like FF9 as much as I like 5, 7, 8 and 10
>>741433694>>741434609https://rentry.org/a2fsdfmp
>>741435515Sora has both Cloud and Squall's victory poses
>>741434909>>741434615>End of disc 1, and into disc 2>End of Disc 2Well there's the problem, I started to lose interest after Disc 1
>>741435674I don't care. I played them all and when I discuss them, I expect anyone partakin in discussion to also have played them.
>>741435731Well its a bit silly to assume that the people saying they didn't actually enjoy FF8 slogged through 60 hours of a game they weren't enjoying
>>741435769You chose to come to the thread, you chose to post your shitty take, you chose to feel insulted when others mocked you for giving uneducated shitty take and now you digging your hole deeper. It's as if a flat-earther came to astronomy convention, demanded mic, started to spout his shit, got the mic taken away from him and then yelled how the others didn't respect him.
>>741435371Is a game that's intentionally designed for you to use a guide even a good game?
>>741415872he's literally me. totally relatable unlike most upbeat protagonists
>>741436008I can understand the original vision of early internet era to have players find secret stuff and tell about it to their friends who also play it. But the execution in FF9 and the guide mostly telling to go see the online guide for the thing is absolutely horrendous. For FFX it got bit better for the og japanese version but the international version added the Dark Aeons that blocked player from trying to go back to do the temples' destruction spheres to unlock Anima and the sun item for Tidus final weapon from Yunalesca's chamber. So international players either had to clear destruction spheres on their first visit and pick the sun thing or grind for and suffer through Dark Valefor, Dark Shiva and Dark Bahamut to come back for the missed things
>>741425787insufferable yeah but I don't know where you're getting whiny from
>>741435937I never said I felt insulted, I said its a bit silly to make assumptions like you have been doing. I came to this thread because what I played of FF8 sucked so hard that I often go out of my way to mention that I hated playing it when given the chance. I don't really care if you think I'm wrong.
>>741436934damn dude you owned that guy. i even yelled "BAZINGA!" out loud.
>>741436985ok
>>741435151The Laguna card is also missable. Point is that Omega Weapon just isn’t feasible without extreme grinding or cheesing. I get that he’s the game’s ultimate superboss, but the two heroes you get from the Seifer fights are barely enough for Ultimecia, nevermind anything else.
>>741436934Good for you. You are still posting though.I have played games I don't like. I don't go to threads about the games I dislike though. Instead I go to threads about games I do like or am interested in.
>>741437198Anon I'm gonna be blunt with you, what you are trying to explain is the simple fact that we are two different people and we do different things. Telling me how you would do stuff and why isn't gonna stop me from doing things the way I do them.
>>741429171That makes sense, my other problem spot was the attack on Balamb garden which has a similar sequence.
>>741437181You can win any card you missed apart PuPu in Disc 4 in Ragnarok if you did Card Club quest in Balamb. I gave you Gilgamesh because the king of the card club has it so if you missed the king, you missed the card and didn't clear the quest and you wouldn't be able to play Triple Triad on disc 4 either.
>>741416346Yeah and instead of a cult classic 150iq people love decades later it would be a disgusting sloppa that people would forget in a week
You now remember trying to locate the White SeeD ship.
How's the balancing in this game if you go in blind and ignorant? I heard it's very easy to break but if you don't figure all of that out does it become annoying on the other side?
>>741438010Hey fuck you buddy
>>741438010looking for the white seed? here you go *unzips pants*
>>741438053As long as you learn the basics of junctioning (which is that you boost your stats by assigning magic spells to them), then you should be fine. You’ll only hit a wall if you don’t engage with the system at all, and even in that case, you can’t softlock yourself. The game does have a dozen ways you can cheese it, but they all involve item refinement and playing the card minigame. Casually, it’s harder than most FFs, but not an impossibly difficult game by any means.
>>741438053If you are really brain damaged, you can make things really hard for yourself. For example in the beginning of Disc 3 there's a forced encounter against Ruby Dragon, bit end of the line random enemy. Since the enemies scale with your level and the exp requirement for level ups is flat 1000exp you can easily overlevel but if you don't know how to utilize the system, the monster's levels and stats go through the roof but your stats stay low. So in the forced Ruby Dragon fight you are in enclosed area with no way to proc better stats unless you have already learned refining skills to make better magic for better stats.Simple things to know:>You can choose which abilities the GFs are learning in the GF menu>Don't fight excessive fights because if you can't up your stats with stronger magic, the enemies will become HP bloats and have higher stats>You can proc limit breaks by switching turns until you hit limit break when your current HP is in yellows>You can avoid EXP by using Card command on the enemies to turn them into cards. You still get AP but you won't get the EXP
>>7414241467 is really great if you compare 6 to 7. The leap in every regard is amazing. It slams in your face that "we can do amazing shit now".It left you feeling there were people out there making technological and creative miracles happen that could do no wrong. 8 seemed a step back because there was no improvement from that. It made 7 look like a fluke. 7 hat a bunch of minigames, vehicles and wild themes, biomechas etc. 8 had an unbelievable twist and convoluted mechanics. Its cool parts were as cool as 7s, but not cooler, and less varied.8 is my favorite game I near-worship, but it's easy to see why the audiences back then were disappointed. 7 rose expectations so much in all regards. So 7 today isn't nearly as amazing, but back then was beyond mind-blowing, while also being a cool, fun game. It also felt much bigger because the locations all seemed bigger than they were, probably because the characters felt smaller too and the way locations were designed.
>>7414384517 did have the benefit of being a revolutionary game, similar to Ocarina of Time. In that way? You could argue that 8 is the Majora’s Mask of FF - the weird and experimental cult sequel that got overshadowed by its more popular predecessor. IMO, 6 and 7 are good games, but they don’t feel as mindblowing today because the groundbreaking stuff they did feels quaint by modern standards (i.e 6’s story being SLIGHTLY darker than most other games at the time, and 7’s really dated blocky graphics).
>>741438382I wouldn’t overstate level scaling. It’s important to mention that level scaling is capped, so most enemies will eventually stop scaling.
>>741422327This happened to me once when i was a kid. Later i read about it and it happens if you start moving too fast when the fmv ends. The balcony door wont open but you can still move in the balcony
>>741439027And thus Squall and Rinoa were forever trapped in the balcony where time stood still
>>741422327>FMV scene on the Balamb Garden balcony when the Garden starts to move and it can get the game stuckNever happened to me ever.
>>741439180It's enough to happen once and after that you will never bring Rinoa to Balamb Garden ever again
>>741432095Underrated reply,
>>741415872That one image has more SOVL and more thought behind it, and is 100x more appealing than any Final Fantasy game in the last 15+ years.
What would an FF8 remake be like?Would it be be like Persona where you do social links and go to class, maybe Balamb garden can be a hub area where you get given sub missions. That's how I imagine it.
>>741439304Maybe it only happened with American copies?Cause it never happened to me.
>>741439397Why are you lads obsessed with Remakes? Just enjoy the game as it is or you'll end up with Moonwalking Redxiii again.
>>741439464Euro here, happened to me on Euro console and happend to me on emulator with US version
>>741439304IIRC, it’s also possible to softlock the game by landing the Ragnarok on top of the rocket launch site the wrong way, so that isn’t even the only softlock in the game. Squaresoft games were held together with duct tape.
>>741439483Modern FF is dead to me at least with remakes I can imagine my childhood again.Plus people seem to hate FF8 anyway besides me so that makes it perfect for a remake.
>>741439397Personally, I would prefer a spiritual successor that focuses more on the mercenary aspect of the game. Basically a game that’s the Disc 1 and Disc 2 experience stretched out to an entire game. It was always a little nitpick of mine that the whole being a SeeD mercenary aspect fell into the background come Disc 3. The only time it’s really brought up again is Laguna saying he’ll pay you to assassinate Ultimecia.
>>741439642FF8 remastered version is good enough if you weren't around to play the OG version. I really wouldn't ask for FF to be remade, Square Enix simply aren't capable of doing it faithfully. You'll either end up with the FF7remake trilogy treatment having to wait 10+ years while they cut it apart and milk it to death while changing the story and core character personalities.Or you'll get the HD-2D treatment where you get these games they say are 'faithful turnbased recreations' but look like utter shit, like someone covered your screen with gloss.
>>7414396428 is hated mostly by 6 and 7fags and normie FF fans.8’s fanbase is a devoted cult fanbase that would scrutinise every little change a remake made, which is a problem since they would be your main demographic for an FF8 remake.
>>741439642>>741439872My fav is FF7 followed by 5, 8 and 10
>>741439872I really like FF8 but FF9 is my favourite. FF7 I think is overrated.
>>741439750They already made that it was called Last Remnant and it sucks. You were also a merc in Nier.No I want FF8!
>>741421610You were a letdown.
>>741440006>You were also a merc in NierYeah, but that was “medieval-style merc” rather than the “Metal Gear-esque modern espionage” merc vibe that VIII went with. The spy thriller vibe is something not a lot of JRPGs outside of FF8 commit to.

>>741420703First time I played I sent Selphie, Irvine and Quistis. I always used that set-up from there on.My logic was Quistis can help Selphie as an instructor, being the 'responsible' one and Irvine can help make things go boom (unlike Edea's case I don't think he'll be having any hesitations when it comes to blowing up machines)
>>741422327I never had that happen and I always take her to Garden. Just don't move during that fmv.
>>741422398>>741425541Mixed team is the best. Selphie is fixed, so having Zell/Irvine or Quistis/Irvine with her is good. You have two Balamb members and one Galbadia representative. Irvine in particular makes sense since if he knows Galbadian shit, he can help in the infiltration.
>>741441218>Just don't touch the controller bro, just don't play or the game gets frozenUh how about I just don't bring Rinoa to Balamb Garden in the first place
>>741439397I want more fleshed out stories of the party, laguna, seifer, fujin/raijin. Keep turn based combat, overhaul the junction system if need be for modern players but not too much (not draw a thousand times in battle). Keep the world aesthetic nearly identical to the original with of course better upgraded visuals and *good* voice acting. Character models have to look good, not like the dissidia ones. Unique looking npcs, not generic. As for the soundtrack, the original is already was peak but you can choose between that or orchestral. No padded sidequests, a few extra minigames. As for the controversial orphanage twist idk, they had 30 years to ponder on what they could have done instead. Make changing triple triad rules easier and online triple triad.
