Simply because it was the first one. It delivered on its promise of players playing in a gigantic open world action rpg. Think of it like the WoW of Gachaslop. Right down to the fact that it's currently shifting the bed for normal players but addicted players with sunk costs will stay in the game to justify their 5-6 digit expenditures. I quit after 5.0.and I only blew about a hundred to get c6 Furina. If they add a skip cutscene or fast forward button I'll undoubtedly return. But I can't sit through all these cutscenes the story lost me after Fontaine peak.

The exploration and dialogue are a lot better than most other gacha already. The combat though is just stuck in 2020. No lock on, backstep, combo input is long, character switching has too much delay. They should have fixed this up years ago. Combat is still cute though so it gets a slight pass. I know women love the simplicity.

It’s a shame how popular Genshin got, because everything following it has to copy it. Endfield for example, doesn’t need weapon types. In Genshin they serve a point in the open world.
