there you go fag, a mobile AC unit for 250 euros, you open a window a little or drill a hole for the air to leave and that's it, you can now play games without issues

>>

It's a combination of building homes that last instead of wooden huts, winters having been the more pressing concern in the past, and the will to actually record why all those old people drop.
>>
>>741430948
We've never had these ridiculous summers when houses were built anon

NTA, but when my contract ended i ended up having to pay a 1500 dollars fine cause i didn't ask for permission to drill holes in the walls for shelves, and yes i did fill the holes before leaving.
And yes, he would have let me drill them, the issue is i didnt notify him that i wanted to do this before doing it.
If you drill a hole like that without permission, you'll just get your ass fucked to the point is way larger than that hole you drilled, even if you do fill it afterwards.
And if the landlord doesn't give you permission and you do it anyway, that can even result in a permanent stain on your record for whatever other place you might want to go next.

Stop telling people to do stuff you don't know jack shit about.

>yesterday was the hottest day of the year
>also yesterday my new AC was installed in my room

You have no idea how comfy I am right now, I have it set at 23°C and my CPU which would normally idle at 50°C with Firefox open is now averaging 35°C. I also can finally semi-retire this old standing fan I've been using for almost a decade, it's so nice not having it blasting right next to me almost 24/7.
>>
>>741429797
It depends on the GPU fan courve. If the GPU switches off the fans when idle it'll get to 50, if it keeps them running it'll stay cooler.

>>

>mfw eurocucks have houses specifically designed to prevent AC units being easily put in
that's just wrong though?
Every house and apartment over here has AC, the only difference is we have thicker walls so we can't really mount it ourselves and need "professionals" to do it, but that's usually around a 50 euro job.
>>
>>741431319
Anon your houses are built to withstand heat

>>
>tfw my apartment has AC and solar panels
>>
>>741431319
>no it fucking isn't
>my gpu idles at 39
do you realize that "normal idle temps" is not a fixed number, but a range, and one that is quite wide, right?
do you realize that BOTH 39 and 50 are within the range of what's normal idle temps, right?

Most GPUs have their default curve set so fans don't spin until it reaches 55°C, if not even 60°C, so yes, anything under 55°C is normal idle temps, even when they're higher than what YOUR GPU idles at.
>>

Depends on the make.
But on average idle temp is supposed to be 40~45°C if you're set for max performance which doesn't allow your card to clock down into low power mode, and it can go as low as 30~35°C if it idles in low power mode.
If it sits at 50°C idle then you have insufficient cooling or airflow.

better to get the dual hose ones and attach a hose on the outside of the intake that hangs down a few inches, that way the intake isn't just sucking the exhaust air right back in

>>741435232
there are store-bought adapter kits for those type of windows, but you can also just DIY it and cut a piece of plywood to the size of the opening, then cut holes in the board for the hose(s)
paint the outside white, glue some foam backing to the inside and seal up the edges tight with weather stripping and aluminum tape to insulate it
you can also get insulation to wrap the hose(s)

some people use plexiglass instead of plywood/etc. which looks nice but doesn't insulate as well

NTA but positive pressure is the way to go. Assuming air cooling on cpu the rear fan should be exhaust and the rear top fan should also be exhaust. Any top fan mounting that sits in front of the cpu cooler should not be used (it messes with the front intake air flow) and front fans should be intake. Side panel fans are really good for cooling gpus but 1) modern gpu coolers are damn good and 2) fishtank cases have no mounting anyway.

Not having AC is some weird cope. In Northern Europe where summers are mildest basically anyone except the unemployed have AC. You see even students having window minisplits in Northern Europe, cheapest models are only couple hundred euros and the poors just make window adapters out of plywood (or cardboard/hiking mat if they are really poor)
>But muh electricity costs
a) cool down a single room instead of the entire house retard
b) dont buy "inside unit only" like most middle EU retards. That shit sucks inside air in and blows half of it out as hotter air. As a result your apartment keeps constantly pulling in hot air from the outside, resulting you to have to keep the machine at constant full blast just to reduce the temperature by 5*C. Single units require like 1200% more energy after you factor in this fact and their inherently bad energy efficiency.

My house is best part of a century old so even with all the upgrades over the years it does much better in the winter than the summer. The upside is the walls are thicc so it takes some serious effort for next door to make noise that is loud enough to be an issue. Even a barking dog basically stops being audible a short distance from the dividing wall.

what's actually overheating for DDR5? I've noticed my first stick (the one used more) goes to 42,5C at most while heavy gaming
>>
>>741449182
they are literally overclocked by default to pretend there's been any improvement whatsoever in tech in the last 5 years or so
just turn off the XMP or amd equivalent and use default stock speeds, they will instantly cool down while you see negligible speed decreases
>>
>>741449182
DDR5 just runs decently hot due to high frequencies and respectable voltage required to sustain that. One dimm getting hotter than the other - assuming dual channel - is just however the system is allocating memory and obviously doing more reads and writes to that dimm. ATX would benefit great from rotating the dimms 90 degrees like HEDT platforms do just for the directed airflow, especially as memory densities get higher and as such under load heat density increases.

You don't NEED a dedicated ram cooler (or even fancy heatsinks) as long as airflow is good but that is diminishing these days due to case design and the preference for quiet operation over amount of air pushed.

It gets involved but in short a lot of modern cpu time is wasted on waiting on data to come in from memory, so faster memory (lets just go with mhz for now and ignore latency) = less time cpu is waiting = more fps cpu can push, to a point. That is why AMDs X3d cpus are so fast AND give no fuck about ram speed as the huge amount of inbuilt memory means it touches ram significantly less (and the cpu inbuilt memory is orders of magnitude faster than ram) as it can store more data locally.

>>741450220
You see the same sort of effect in some games when running ultra turbo deluxe mega texture settings on gpus that lack the memory to hold them. The gpu has to keep swapping data over the pcie bus and that is slower than just having said data sit in gpu memory all the time.

The core issue for both is that the actual memory chips have not advanced in throughput as quickly as the actually beep boop computation elements have so chip designers have spent decades pulling all kinds of design tricks and hacks to mask and hide slow memory access. Those X3D chips are some very fancy manufacturing to be at the end of the day "lmao just glue more memory on". GPUs get even weirder as they have less layers of memory on the beep boop parts so how quickly they can access their vram pool matters even more.

skill issue

It's still cool inside, the problem will come when shit doesn't get cooler than 20C outside for more than a week. Now that is where an AC is god's gift.

Lol, europeans are so cucked they're not even allowed to remove the caps from their plastic bottles. There's no way they would ever be allowed to install central AC.
>>

Just don't think about. Your brain registers the heat when you think about it, if you ignore it, you won't feel it. Just like how you're always automatically breathing and blinking without thinking about it (well, not anymore)
