Which version is the definition version of tactics, should I hunt down an physical version of the PSP one or can I play the PS1 which was almost identical to the new remastered version?
>>741443816Physical PSP is the absolute worst way to play it because of performance issues Remake > PS1 > Modded PSP ISO
Advanced mogs it.
>>741443816Emulate PS version>>741444257Yes but you need to have played FFT before FFTA and FFTA before FFTA2.
>>741444257no it doesn't
>>741444257Their not even set in the same world are they?None of the fantasy races even appear in the original for some reason, the main dev behind the recent remastered did say a third game might include ramza & new species though
>>741444405Yes it does.
>>741444636Not that anon but Ivalice is concept originating from FFT but it also makes appearance in FFTA and FFTA 2, Vagrant Story and FFXII.I don't know what your >Their not even set in the same world are they?is supposed to say. Are you autist?
>>741444636they're only called tactics because of the combat system, they have no actual relation with eachother
>>741444636They do take place in the same world, but in a different timeline. My head cannon is that it's a different part of Ivalice in a far, far future from OG tactics, and the book that made it to the normie realm is one of their religious text from War of the Lions.
>>741444405If I had to choose whether to spend next 60 mins doing random battles and party management in FFT or FFTA, I'd pick FFTA in a heartbeat. FFT is great! FFTA is simply better game.
>>741444257I got around the halfway point before finding out not only can you steal items from enemys but you can place the little area around the map for more hidden items & gave up because I missed nearly all of them, really cool game that needed a proper remake to flesh out the monster units, the lizard monks were amazing,& the fuzzy guys with guns
>>741443816emulate the ps1 versionThe remake is ai slopPSP isn't bad with the patch but it has less romhacks>>741444257Unironically true since it unfucks the jobs for the most part
>>741444636They both take place in Ivalice. It could be different versions of it with no ties to each other though.Vagrant Story, Tactics and FF12 do take place in the same Ivalice at least, but different time periods.
>>741444873False.Chronologically FFTA -> FFTA2 -> massive timeskip -> FFT
>>741443816FFT's predecessor, Tactics Ogre, has a similar problem, maybe worse. the original SNES/PS1, PSP, and modern Reborn versions are all different from eachother and there's not really a good answer to which one is definitive.
>>741444756They called fft the ivalice chronicles for a reason. What they planned for back then will now be made. Pretty sure we will see ffta/2, and new fft7/to games and new tactics and pixel ff.
>>741444873Canonically, it's the opposite. The original Tactics takes place after all of the Ivalice games introduced afterwards, with Vagrant Story taking place after Tactics.
>>741445073>back thenTook them only 20 years to realize what people want>new fft7/to games and new tactics and pixel ff.
>>741444907Ooof. Autism is bad. Also if you ever pick it up again, check the guide for doing the missions because you can get locked out by doing wrong mission the wrong time and not being able get the mission item back and locking yourself out from the grand reward of having done all the missions.
>>741445192Idiotic game design that was common back then
>>741445031I'm open to discuss this since there's no definite answer, but why did Ivalice become racially pure for the war?
>>741445192He should just play the damn game and treat this system has a randomization mechanic instead of something to be minmaxed
Maybe I didn't grasp the systems properly, but both Tactics and TA (probably the same shit with TO and TA2) felt very grindy to actually get units online. Too much of a chore, so I would never really get far without being completely bored.
>>741445432I think it was around FFX-2 and FFTA i stopped trying to 100% games and just played and had fun without worrying about completing all the possible things
>>741443816>it's good because it's hard
>>741445495With FFT, yes. The grind is one of the core gameplay systems. Not so bad with FFTA. You usually learn the ability after 2-3 fightsFFTA is the sameTactics Ogre is really weird depending on what one you mean but assuming Let Us Cling Together. There's grind but not as obnoxious as FFT. You can literally beat the game without ever swapping classes on a unit.
>>741445615>I'm hard because it's goodFTFY
>>741445495You don't need your units to be fully built to start the game. Just don't grind. It's that easy to make it fun.
>>741445471Agreed>>741445495The games are not that hard that you would need min/max optimize your units from the get-go. It's just you "knowing" you could raise those units to their full potential before proceeding with the story or whatever. Same with FF8 and being afraid to use junctioned spells:>Oh no, if I use this Tornado, my Strength will drop from 255 to 254! I would still hit for 9999 damage but if I know my stat is not maxed, I'm gimped!
>>741445615FFT is hard? I can give you Wiegraf and him being behind 2 battle maps with no chance to turn back and grind being a surprise but after him there shoudln't be any meaningful obstacles other than possibly RNG coin toss of whether the NPC unit you are supposed to protect do dumb thing and whether the enemy assassins decide to play for real.
>>741443816Anybody tried the new TIC NG+?
>>741445991Qrd?
>>741446283The re-release, The Ivalice Chronicles, had an update like less than a week ago, and it added a NG+ mode where you take all of your units and items forward.Wanted to know if it was as low effort as Tactician difficulty or actually decent.
>>741445615I don't know how it is in the new remastered version but the original PS1 game you can absolutely get hard lock because random encounters could spawn higher lvl mobs that your units had no way to counter
>>741446450Factually Wrong + skill issue
>>741446450In the remaster you can back out of any battle with no consequence besides losing xp progress and items you found. You can also just skip all random battles, which makes the errand system feel a little goofy.
>>741446450The random battles decide their enemies' levels on the average of the units' levels you bring. I dunno why you have high level units and then bring low level unit unless you were grinding Cloud but even then your big boy units should easily take care of the enemies who have even lower levels than if you had bring all high level units.Maybe you are just too dumb to play baby's first grid tactics.
matsuno slop
>>741445495as long as you end all of your turns with actions that give you JP there isnt much of a need to grind, at least as long as you stick to one team and dont schizophrenically jump jobs nonstp.
>>741445447If you press Select on locations on the world map you get descriptions of themLike in Sweegy Woods you get>An ancient forest surrounded on all sides by mountains. Said to have once been home to a race of extinct moogles.Clockwork City of Goug>A mining town known for producing mechanical weapons using ancient relics excavated from underground ruins. Ancient relics aka Guns aka the weapons that Gunner Moogles used in FFTA/2Airship Graveyard>A place within the necrohol of Mullonde where the wrecks of once-proud airships languish. Here lingered the soul of Saint Ajora, who had been joined to the High Seraph, and it was that which Folmarv of the Knights Templar ultimately sought.Once-proud Airships of FFTA2 which were all destroyed prior to FFT.
>>741446804Real shame he left before XII could reach it's full potential
>>741443816if you're on PC you can mod the new remake to not look like ass. the voice acting is pretty good too, otherwise you can't go wrong with the PS1 original if you're emulating on something that isn't a PC.
>>741446712What's the baby's second grid tactics?
>>741443816>physicalDude just emulate the PS1 version, is not that hardAlso, that forced "Ye Olde English sayeth" dialogue from the PSP and remake can fuck off
>>741443816I played it recently and idk why but it didn't feel as short as a kid
>>741447602>forgetting this gem
>>741447602fire emblem 7. though I guess now it'd be three houses huh.
>>741447262you mean had a tantrum and left his team to flop.hes washed up
>>741447602Disgaea, 3d Xcom and Mewgenics
>>7414476023H. It just doesn't try at all.
Tactics Ogre One Vision. All these Tactics game are unbalanced and full of bugs without patches. One Vision is mandatory to make TO playable.
>>741444636Kek retard
>>741447602Vandal Hearts
>>741444110Don't forget people have also modified the PS1 with almost everything from the PSP port except the multiplayer stuff
>>741445041You're retarded.
>>741447775Matsuno made nothing but kino while at Square Soft and before it. SE was and always has been the problem and that should be obvious to anyone just from looking at their track record.
>>741448679clueless matsusno dickrider. its been 20 years retard
>>741447826The 1st two are great but never had the chance to try the third game on PS3
>>741443816The prose in the PSP version is fucking obnoxious. They think it's better because of the faux Shakespearean word salad, but it just drags every scene out. Tactics Ogre doesn't do this and it has a way better story than FFT.
>>741443816emulated ps1 version with the lion war of the lions modadds all the psp content including the multiplayer battle maps but it replaces Luso with Ashley Riot from vagrant storyunironically the only way ill play tactics these days
>>741449437Story? Are you playing tactics games for story?
>>741445495Job systems are inherently grind fests since the only thing stopping you from getting to that next job you want is how much time you want to spend grinding. You can choose to not grind which makes the game a little bit harder, but it's always up to the player.Tactics Ogre doesn't have the same type of system. Units are single classes and you only unlock a single "freeform" class in the final chapter and only depending on a certain chain of events. Reborn, despite the endless bitching about it, did the right thing by adding a story-based level cap which allowed you to spend some extra time working on team configs without over leveling, which is a problem in the other versions.
>>741444330>Emulate PS version>t:favela dwelling retard who hanst even tried the new version because it has denuvo
>>741449731>Reborn, despite the endless bitching about it, did the right thing by adding a story-based level cap which allowed you to spend some extra time working on team configs without over levelingThese have nothing to do with each other so I have no idea why you'd even bring it up.
>>741449954I can drink my tap water. And no, I haven't played the newer versions because I don't need to, I already played the og. I was contemplating if I wanted to buy the new version of Star Ocean 2 and decided against it because I already played the og thrice. What could the new version bring to the table other than better vusuals and sounds and maybe some half-baked new gimmick?
>>741443816I was about to make this same thread because the remake is on sale and I still don't see a clear answer in this threadAre all versions fully voiced at least? A game being fully voiced is very important for me
>>741450843The og isnt. If you need voices you go with the new release. I can't imagine needing voices for grid grinding
>>741450843Both the PSP & new remastered version have voice overs anon, but the original translation is only on PS1 if you care about prose getting in the way of the story
>>741451087>>741451590so just go with the steam version?
>>741451791Steam: Fully voicedPSP: Partially voicedPSX: No voiceif you want fully voiced, Steam. If you want the best translation, PSX.
>>741450843Contrarians here will disagree but the remake is the best version of the game by a mile and its not even remotely close. Both the JP and English VAs are excellent.
>>741451924Steam version it is then, thank you
>>741451964Almost everybody says the remake is better thoThe only flaw is it has denuvo killing the ability to mod it, which is a massive downside, but for a vanilla playthrough irrelevant
>>741443816>the definition version
>>741452389You can mod it though. Denuvo doesnt prevent you from modding it.
>>741443816PS1Remakes, remasters, etc are always worse.
>>741443816Do yourself a favour and play something actually enjoyable instead. Like arc the lad 1 and 2, or the Shining Force trilogy on Saturn.>>741448679The only good thing matsuno made was Vagrant Story, and it's a gigantic mess of a game that's unbelievably player hostile.FF12 would have been good but he bailed after only 12 months of development. For this reason, even Sakaguchi refused to play the game beyond the first hour or 2,
>>741448298This. Choose your translation and go nuts.Alternatively just PS1 + your choice of ASM hacks and translation.
>>741451924Only women need voice acting, coz it reminds them of watching Television (the only thing they're good at).
>>741452526>t. the gooch
>>741452526based sakaguchi.
>>741445041I need to replay the PSP version and work on my mod that unfucks the enemy drops RNG. The way they made this game is so retarded that you have to go through literal thousands of enemy formations to edit.
>>741446412It's just a loop through the same game again. Have fun with using Orlandu in the first chapter I guess?
>>741450843>A game being fully voiced is very important for meIvalice Chronicles is the only choice for you then
>>741452526>trilogyI thought the only shining game was SitD?
>>741452526>hostileBesides not really having an reable map, what's wrong with it?
>>741445548100% them is a chore. Iirc yakuza 7g is platinumed by beating the game+subquests , I like that approach.
>>741452579Hearing gaffy yell SHADOW BLADE is pretty awesome ngl
>>741452579Most men today are spiritually women.
>>741452989The game actually did need that there's so many units and items you barely get to play with
>>741452579the voice acting is pretty good tho
>>741453815It's just low imagination ability. Everything has to be acted out for modern audiences.
>>741451924>If you want the best translation, PSX.lol
>>741455564nta but what's the difference between them?
>>741455663PSX: Tries to be faithful to JPPSP: Ignores original JP, tries to rewrite the game in pseudo-intellectual ShakespeareanRemaster: Hybrid of the 2, sort of tries to be faithful to JP but also wants to be Shakespearean
>>741456630>TriesAnd fails spectacularly.I'll always prefer the original ability names but to call it the best is a real joke.
>>741444257There's a place for both. But I enjoy the whole series.
>>741457269Maybe actually read the original JP text before writing such dumb shit
>>741457691can you even read japanese
Ivalice Chronicles and War of the Lions scripts are barely any different.
>>741457691The PSX version is borderline gibberish at times, like Agrias request for the church to open the gate and the scenes with Rafa and Malak are so bad
>>741458180It falls apart after chapter 3 whenever the demons and the stones are involved.
>>741458180>gibberishanon your drunk m8
>>741458180Forsooth! Ye thinketh medieval language doth make thee superior to Engrish. But thou lacketh knowledge to foresee those among ye who were born in the Engrish, molded by it.
FFT on PS1 just has the most retarded translation
>>741457691You don't need to see the original text to know the PS1 version is nonsense.>Defeat Dycedarg's Elder Brother!
>>741459524Hold your tongue, cur. I’ll not hear your childish judgement of my Friday revelry. Ye may speak true, but know that the Father alone has the right to judge me, and He does not find me wanting. Contemplate on thine own soul, cur.
There's a typo? Better give up on translation and instead make shit up
>>741443816>Which version is the definition versionTriangle Strategy.
>>741459915Kek
>>741449731Yes but assuming it's your first time going through, you'll have a very difficult time trying to unlock some of the more obscure classes like dark knight or onion knight
>>741459915It's not typos, it's nonsense.
>>741460385I always thought the little money bit felt weird
>>741460852That's more of a programming quirk.
>>741444873So basically March found an portal to Ivalice's distance past?
>>741460385Translation was likely going to write your elder brother but had a stroke. idk why you people pretend this is impossible to comprehend
>>741461343What's impossible to comprehend?
the new translation is gay because it removes the queen reference
