>>741451076The answer is 'it depends'.
>>741451076If someone is already within lunging/tackling distance, then a gun is going to do jackshit in preventing you from getting shanked if they really want to kill you.
>>741451306All's I remember is that one guy from the Irishman said >run away from a knife >run towards the gun
>>741451076Guns are much much louder than movies and video games will show you so a knife is better if you can use it.
Knives are probably the most useless weapon imaginable. You'd literally be better off with an actual stick. Knives can't even penetrate modern plates so you'd need to get their neck or legs and good luck doing that when they can just shoot you.
Up close I think knives have a greater scariness factor to them, a gun is scary too of course, but there's a high likelihood of a clean wound and that you won't bleed to death, if you get stabbed it's most likely in the vitals and you're probably donzo
>>741451076It depends how close. If we’re talking skin to skin contact, then the knife wins.
>>741451779Any modern soldier will be wearing a flak and plates and probably have a dick flap and a neck guard and a helmet. Even a really big knife will have trouble getting through all that and being stabbed doesnt stop you from shooting the stabber in the face 17 times when you mag dump them.Knife kills aren't real we don't live in a video game you will just die.
Army knives are more tools than actual weapons, except in some extreme emergency where your gun is inoperable. A knife can be blocked or wrestled away and it can take several hits before your opponent starts blacking out from blood loss, in the meantime he can do some serious damage to you. A point blank gunshot wound will just put him out of comission immediately.
>>741452098There are a thousand videos of soldiers with body cams mad dumping each other in close quarters and not any of them using curved knives on each other or going on stab rampages. Even in trenches and stuff where you're feasibly close enough to stab each other they just shoot each other 100 times with entire magazines when they bump into each other.

>>741451076To aim a gun you have to hold your arms out straight and align your eyesight down the barrel and towards your target. You can feel where and what the knife is doing like it is an extension of your arm.
>>741451076Naked Snake mostly uses the knife to control a soldier and judo throws them if he aims to incapacitate, so I dunno maybe.
Snake should really just collect the jacket and head mask of every soldier he kills and go in undercover.
>>741451076If you're in a situation like Snake then a knife is your best friend, because it conserves precious ammo and allows you to kill relatively silently to avoid giving away your position. In actual normal combat operations then a knife is next to useless, but MGS3 isn't a normal combat operation.
>>741452098>>741452198I recall exactly one video of a knife fight occurring organically in the Russia-Ukraine dustup, and everyone thought it was staged until corroborating drone footage was released. Meanwhile, we have oodles of building and trench clearing footage being done with service rifles and (lots and lots of) grenades. On a related note, that one knife fight was a relatively lengthy affair compared to the average CQC fight which is won within half a second by the guy who gets their rifle on target first.Autoloading firearms just kill so absurdly quickly and easily compared to any melee weapon. Given the choice, you would be insane to choose a knife over a reliable handgun.

>>741451076In a close range encounter, a pistol isn't going to instantly put someone down if you're getting shoulder and torso shots unless you hit something vital. And a knife is too cumbersome to use with a long gun for obvious reasons. While CQC as in-game is totally made up for the sake of making the characters look action movie badass, like Equilibrium logic almost, there's definitely grounds to the theory because of a knife's utility in immediate, severe and crippling wounds if someone's getting that close. You're just not going to see most real training or combat arts try to utilize gun and knife because of specialization and infiltration ops not really being a key component of most conflict or warfare for this style.
shut the fuck you faggot losers pretend tough guys
>>741456118One more word Hinata and I'll kiss you.
>>741455631Pistols are for mag dumping that's why they moved every branch to higher capacity magazines. An entire 15-20 round mag of 9MM or .40 will put anyone down if theyre dumb enough to charge you with a knife or try to tackle you and you can mag dump without even aiming or assuming a proper stance if you have to just tuck your arm into your side and pull the trigger until you have to reload. Pistol>>>>>>>>>>actual dogshit>>>>>>>knifeSoldiers aren't cops who have to stay holstered until they're 100% sure a threat is real the whole knife gun argument is more of a cop thing where they aren't supposed to be seeing red 24/7 and murdering anyone in a different color uniform than themselves.
>>741457067That's presuming having the time and opportunity to mag dump someone. In an urban environment or theoretical indoors, and you're not a soldier with a long gun, at the very minimum any corner is a potential jump, though at the same time the average raid would probably just see you lit up like a christmas tree from down a hall instead.
>>741454054No, thats still krausers knife. His original knife is the unlockable "primal knife"
>>741457223Maybe but as you said in real shit everyone's ass blasting every room shooting through every wall or yeeting grenades. The entire YouTuber gun community shares all these retarded videos of morons practicing things like "room clearing" where some snide cunt hides with a knife behind a corner to pull a gotcha but IRL the likelihood of that in actual combat is pretty fucking low. Someone's already fragged that room or dumped 50 rounds of 5.56 belt fed machine gun ammo into the walls and the idea you're ready to pounce with a kramabit in a microsecond when they come in is just stupid. You will have shit your pants and died or you'd be screaming in the corner crying and begging not to be shot if you survived the 6 grenades they lobbed in there after mulching all your friends in the room with you. For cops and LE raids the gun knife argument is very real, for soldiers it isn't really a thing. Like how they say MCMAP is a real thing but the average marine does it for like a week in boot camp because it's useless.
>>741451076Of course not. That's why in real life cqb just uses your gun.

>>741451076Typically no, but even a spork is better than a 45.
it's not so much that a knife isn't better than a gun in close quarters it's that it's featured as a primary combat technique, snake being a disciple of the cqc master. getting within arm's length of sentries and manhandling them with a knife just isn't something militaries plan operations around irl. you're either in a ghillie suit a football field away crawling or you're committed to a rapid offensive operation with obfuscated silenced fire.

>>741451076Yes. In CQC, the gun discharge would pretty much deafen the shooter. Does no one here actually fire guns? You wear protection while range shooting FOR A FUCKING REASON. You're as liable to stun yourself as the other guy.
>>741460574>I can't mag dump because my ears hurtSaid literally no cop ever
>>741451076Literally all you need to do to negate a gun is grab it, if you're wrestling then they can't point it at you.If you're wrestling someone with a knife you're probably fucked.
>>741451076Bullets don't do much damage at close range. The impact of the bullet comes from its acceleration as it leaves the gun barrel. Too close, and it's too slow. There's an optimal distance where the bullet reaches maximum velocity before it slows down again.
>>741451076Snake is a super perfect soldier that he knows what to use that's suited for the close quarters situation on the spot, that's why he fights with a gun knife.Obviously instantly figuring out what to use on the spot is the most OP, but even if you're a perfectly trained soldier that is not realistic.Panic shot always wins against panic knife, police cam shows that every time. Only time they lose is when the suspect has a meth buff but you can't win against methmonster with a knife either.
>>741452401>I don't believe there are crocodiles in Russia. There are in the MGS universe.
>>741460805If you run away from a bullet you can even catch it with your cheeks.
>>741460823Nearly every shooting where the perpetrator has a knife they die. Every once in awhile a knife guy lucks out. But even stabbing a cop in the neck isn't enough half the time and they still have enough precious lifeblood to shoot them like 20 times and the knife guy still dies. Cops are taught the 21 foot rule because being stabbed hurts and you're not supposed to stab cops. They are the walking embodiment of law (or they're supposed to be anyway) that is why they can shoot someone who tries to pull a knife on them. The knife guy literally almost never wins or even kills the cop.
>>741451076If you are somehow in a situation where a knife in your hand is better than a gun you did something horribly wrong to get in that scenario
>>741451076Kojipro hired a Japanese swat cop to teach Kojima and the gang how to clear rooms and stuff for mgs2. So this is probably true.
>>741451076Knives can be modulated in ways pistols lack. It's not about killing the person, it's about credible threats. If I point a gun at someone at point blank range, there is a chance they will believe they are in danger, but if the gun is suited for long range combat, there is also a chance they won't kill me even if they manage to get a shot off. Knives can mitigate that threat level by keeping the credibility high. A shotgun at point blank range is very dangerous, but a M4 takes time to chamber, load and reload, and if I'm in proximity, I need a way to eliminate the person, that's why knives can be useful.
>>741460967Snake is a martial arts super master, not a crackhead with a knifeIf he's at knife range, he's going to be able to control the opponent's weapon and not get shot
>>741460805This is also why snipers take high positions because the gravity makes the bullet even faster.
>>741460574Have you? I ruined my hearing years ago but it's not nearly as big if a deal as you are implying
>>741451076I associate the knives are better for close quarters more with RE4 because of Leon. Snake's CQC with the gun and knife both at the ready always felt practical, though.
>>741451365The problem with that is you read prison stories where some guy survived being shanked 40 times, or some woman survives her boyfriend stabbing her 20+ times. Don't get me wrong, I never want to be stabbed ever, but I think even if you got to stab someone you're probably gonna still be shot and killed. I would always have a knife, and in literally all of these scenarios the guy doesn't have his gun drawn. Snake walks around with his gun out. If your gun is drawn then a knife has no chance even at point blank range. Even if you let them put the knife up against your cheek you'll still kill them with a gun if it is drawn.

>>741451365In nearly any realistic scenario that any average joe would be in, gun wins over a knife any day of the week. Getting shot is a far more visceral and painful action than a knife cutting through flesh by orders of magnitude. All that energy behind a bullet, point-blank or not, MUST be dissipated, and if the bullet doesn't leave the body that means the body of the person getting shot must absorb 100% of it. The kinetic force, the heat, and the pneumatic shock alone will damage nearly every organ nearby, rupture blood vessels within inches of the wound channel, and leave a malformed hole from which the bullet travels through, and that's assuming the bullet is a full metal jacket, and not a hollow point which will do far greater damage over a larger area. It is one of the singularly most painful acts that can be put onto a human being and be able to feel it outright, if they survive the initial shot at all. The pure amount of pain and the shock coming from it would be enough to stun anyone who has never experienced it before. The only time this wouldn't be a factor is when the knife-wielder would be either on an adrenaline high and not feel it, or on PCP/some other psychoactive drug to negate it, and even then hitting the heart or the head isn't exactly hard, and both will kill immediately or in seconds.

>>741464720you literally can't slash with the cqc knife, the knife only equip snake slashes and thrusts with is a full sized survival knife he carries attached to his boot.

You use the knife to create space to shoot your handgun if the combat has become that close quarters. If youre getting clinched, then you cant really use either expect for in a panic. Having a knife in the offhand to intimidate and maintain enough space to shoot with could be practical, but if a nigga is rushing, neither is realy viable in a panic and will probably be turned against you. Keep the knife sheathed, if you get into a grapple then gain dominant postion, then pull out the knife to finish the fight.
you guys are lacking imagination. It's not a question of what is better. If it was an all or nothing scenario armies would be issuing pikes and dropping knives from bomber planes onto suburbs, if knives were better.Aside from that.Knives are scary, but so are guns. However, knives are accessible and if cops catch you with a gun in most countries that's game over. People talk about noise, but come on. Killing people is usually pretty loud or noticeable despite technological advances on that part. Killing in a domestic sense is more of a function of taboo. Most people don't kill people, and so don't know what killing people sounds or looks like until it is really obvious. People mistake guns for fireworks and vice versa all of the time. Maybe if you were both trapped in an elevator a knife would have an edge. I suppose if your hands were clumsily trying to chamber a round in an elevator you would be at a significant disadvantage. What if all your classmates are there laughing at you trying to shoot this guy but for some reason the gun is not firing and you look down and you're actually just doing gun hand motions and making gun noises yourself and now you just can't hit this guy with your imaginary bullets. You wake up in a cold sweat and reach for your gun but the guy from the knife dream is still there and he throws it away and starts pretending to stab you so you throw your hands up, but he just starts laughing and saying "This is CQC! This is CQC!". I guess a knife would win in that scenario.
