Halo 2A is around half of the install size, Halo 4 is also pretty big too, both games use pre-rendered cutscenes, mainly H2A, 4 only has them for the prologue and epilogue.

Halo 4 is pretty much an end-of-generation title and slips a ton of pre-rendered shit in there, Halo 2 is the original plus the remade visuals with pre-renders, and Combat Evolved also has its anniversary remaster in there. Everything is basically higher resolution textures on top of their original selves.

It's a collection. OF COURSE if you download the "content complete" version it's going to be 100+ gigs.

If you don't need the whole thing, it's WAY less than that. Halo 2-3 multiplayer is like 25gigs.

PSA.
Recently Halo 2 Restored made it to the archive and it is playable online with Project Cartographer and its anti-cheat works unlike MCC.
Restored is essentially Halo 2 Vista minus GFWL plus quality of life updates.
It runs great, plays better than the MCC version and it is the only way you will play Halo 2 MP in the year of our lord.
Halo 2 on MCC sees next to no play, with Halo 3 and Reach being the most played titles.
End of message.


Now someone tell me if ElDewrito is better or if that is only for Halo 3/4.
Halo 2 is so much fun, I landed a sticky on a guy who was like 3 stories above me and dropped the oddball, I shouted get the fuck down from there as it happened. Lol.
Also melee in Halo 2 just feels better.
I used to like Halo 3 better but H2 is growing in me.

This is one of several reasons why Infinite was a technological disaster internally. Slipspace Engine is really just a retitled Blam, like how Creation Engine is still just Gamebryo underneath the flashy veneer. Another major problem is that because Microsoft moved to 18 month contractor policies to try to avoid paying health benefits for longer-term employees, they had a massive brain drain of the people that knew the engine in the first place and thus people lost track of how to actually develop for it.

That's why Campaign Evolved and the rebrand are making such a big ass push to Unreal Engine in a desperate attempt to wipe the technical debt. And yet they just imported Halo Reach shit wholesale over with possibilities that it's just a UE5 layer on top of Blam code, which would be even more retardo debt.

But you're right, having a revolving door of contractors who wouldn't know how a proprietary engine works does not help anyone. And because it's easier and cheaper to just hire those people, it results in every game using the same 2 engines.
