It's Friday. Let's play some board games on Tabletop Simulator.
Lobby: /v/oard gamesPassword: rage
>>741467783What games are you hosting?
>>741469343That depends on how many people show up. I would like to play Tower of Babel, Santiago, or Bus. But if there is anything in particular you want to play I am all ears.
>>741467783I wish you'd host these a little earlier so I could get join for a game or two, I'm always out by the time these show up.No I am not making the thread myself.Being a host is too much responsibility
What's with all the /tg/ threads here recently? Did something happen over there? Mods went nuclear didn't they?>>741467783
>>741469572Idk any of those names, I was expecting something closer to CAH or Sorry.
>>741469692/tg/ is kind of a shithole, and as always the best discussion can be found outside of the main board.
>>741469572>BusBased Splotterkino, finally managed to get it at a reasonable price after they reprinted it. It's good but I'm not paying 200 bucks for a game. Now let's hope the same happens with Food Chain Magnate. >>741469741>CAH>SorryDude you need to play real board games.
>>741470002Next you're going to hate on Backgammon.
>>741467783do you mind having spectators?
>>741470002If a game takes more than 1 minute to learn and more than 1 hour to play then it's not worth playing. You can't debate this.
>>741470046>BackgammonI never knew how to play that, I would just use the chess side for chess and checkers.
>>741470060Wouldn't it be more fun to be a participant?
>>741470060Nobody has joined in 50 minutes so there is nothing to spectate yet. You're welcome to be a spectator though.>>741470103I'm not convinced that Cards Against Humanity or Sorry! could be taught in one minute.Tower of Babel takes about 40 minutes in person. On TTS it would be around an hour.Santiago takes about an hour in person but it would be much slower on TTS.I can't defend Bus.
>>741470260Welcome to nu-/v/, nobody really plays anymore unless it's Nintendo (because playing with random kids on wifi is hell) or they are just circlejerking their fucking discord (Jackbox/Party van)
>>741470260CAH is just playing a card in response to the black one in hopes the judge chooses it for being the funniest one, and Sorry is just rolling the dice and moving, if you hit a piece they return to the start. Simple, straightforward rules that are easy to comprehend. Nothing like trade this for this amount and solve this equation to know how many things you get back bullshit of modern games
>>741467783>Workshop with thousands of games you can download for free>Still upHow have they escaped the jewish hammer of intellectual property for this long?
>>741470708>bullshit of modern gamesTower of Babel is 21 years old and it's the newest game on my list.If you want to play something ancient I would be up for Acquire.
How come it doesn't have a board game?
>>741471194"Digital" is probably as far as you can get from actual board games. They play DnD on the show though.
>>741470787Board gaming is such a niche hobby that something like TTS is great publicity or obscure enough for corporations to notice unless somebody snitches
>>741470941How old are you?
Onitama with 2.
>>741467783What does /v/ think about painting miniatures?Based or cringe?
>>741471747Never heard of this one. Oriental mini chess?
>>741471798based, but the prices are cringedsomehow its a body more cucked than console players.
>>741472076You and the opponent share a deck of 5 random movement cards (there are a lot with the expansions, promos, etc.). You play one of two, pass that used card to your opponent, and replenish your movement options with the card that's waiting for you.
>>741472076Pretty much. You play one of your 2 cards and move according to it. Your opponent gets the card you used but they can't use it on their next turn.
>>741471798I suck at painting but I respect people who paint their stuff. What I don't respect, is people painting figurines but never actually play with them. I have a friend that bought the game Ankh, didn't want to play it until he finished painting the figurines (took him like 3 months), then now he doesn't to play them because he'd have to use some of the pieces he chose to put on display.
>>741469692It's a /vm/ thread, /tg/ are all buyfags they don't pirate games with TTS.
>>741470787not all the games do, quite a lot get taken down, or strike a deal where an older version with no expansions is allowed on the workshop and the fans hand out the new version on a need-to-play basis personally
>>741472332They don't play them either!
>>741470787More and more publishers are taking them down. They're on a sekrit discord now and updated KDM in particular is a paid mod.
>>741470103If you never played an 18XX or a Splotter in your life, you haven't seen what games are capable of, or what they can turn a man into with just the game mechanics alone. though one can argue that you can learn an 18XX in one minute, if you know how other games in the system work then learning a new one is just learning the differences from the baseline of 1830.
Why don't they have Wyrmspan? It's better than Wingspan, imo.
>>741472624Worse art.
>>741472601Problem with 18XX games is that they are boring as hell.
>>741472624"better than wingspan" is not a high bar to clear, to be honest.
>>741472624>>741472556https://litter.catbox.moe/krd1nw.json
>>741472683>i play in a boring way but somehow that's the fault of the game not melol, lmao. what's next, you'll tell me Catan is the holy grail of gaming?
>>741472624>Why don't they have Wyrmspan?Stonemaier is the publisher that does the most TTS takedowns.
>>741472556>updated KDM in particular is a paid modKek, KDM is truly the paypig's """"game""" of choice. A guy brought it once to a monthly meetup and it's literally just a "attack and move" luckfest that's le epic hard and though with legacy elements. I'll never understand how people like it or Blood on the Clocktower. Well, at least KDM has sexy minis to stare at while you get bored to death (monster).
Unfortunately it's midnight here, so I can't join. Hope eurofriends hop in for some games!
>>741472749My nigga, I guess /v/ is alrite sometimes.
>>741472865Blood on the Clocktower is actually Mafia++, where every player is active in collecting information, be it for the good side or for the bad side. Unlike most "social deduction" games where half the players are "you have no abilities, good fucking luck lol", here everyone does something, either once at game start or continuously every night phase. This already makes it more enjoyable than most Mafia clones.Agree on your KDS opinion, people say the game really shows its colors when you upgrade your equipment, but in that case why not start with the equipment and skip the boring bits? Bad game design no matter how you slice it.
>>741473108>Blood on the Clocktower is actually Mafia++That's not really a positive considering Mafia fucking sucks. But BotC is more like an express DnD campaign with roles instead of stats. The rulebook even tells the DM to swing things in certain people's favor in order to keep the thing flowing. You really need to like roleplaying in order to enjoy it, if you're mechanics-driven like most actual board gamers are, it's not gonna be a particularly interesting nor fun experience.
Are you still playing?
>>741473323Host usually announces when they close the lobby, hop in if you want.
>>741473323there's 4 people in the lobby waiting for the duel of fates to finish, you can be the 5th
>>741472749Thanks. Was this from when it was in the steam workshop?
What's (You)r favorite game, /v/?Have you been able to play it in the last 6 months?;_;
>>741473412Based anons actually playing games
>>741473809Horseless Carriageit was so long ago i dont remember if it was in the last 6 months or notalso why is Twilight Struggle your favorite:? last time I tried it i got filtered by the random hands giving my opponent only one of my events that he threw into space, while i had a hand full of his events and no way to play them without him getting the advantage, and oh also he had Europe scoring and won in the first two hands.
>>741473809I'm lucky enough to play it semi often with my pals or with new people or anons on TTS. God I love this game.>>741474315>Another Horseless Carriage enjoyerNow that's a rare sight. Such a cool game I wish I could play more often, but seems people have a hard time getting used to the factory building, sale and tech competition; Last couple times I played it with veterans and golly gee it was one of the grandest of fun I've had in a while, bastards colluded to steal one of the last Reliability parts I could put on my factory and that cucked me out of several sales and a lot of money, can't even get mad at that.
>>741474315>why is Twilight Struggle your favorite:?I love the tension and the story it tells through gameplay. It's true you can get a bad hand that favors your opponent, but they means if you weather the storm by playing defensively and reacting to.them, you can come back strong and swiftly. The USSR has a bit of an advantage early if you don't get important cards but if you Blockade you can return and whoop them back.
>>741470708I can teach you Bang The Dice Game, Coup and Love Letter in the time it took you to write every post you've done ITT.There you've got three perfectly good casual party games that involve thinking more than just saying Boner.
>>741471798It's the only good part out of the entire table top hobby and that is despite being linked to shit games that are abusively overpriced. That my 40k friend painted all of our Gloom/Frosthaven miniatures makes them beautiful additions to actually good games for us to play.
Tower of Babel with 4 and a ghost who doesn't play games.
I wish I understood bridge but every time I try watching tutorials on it the plays make no fucking sense
>>741475062Wait till you hear about Cribbage.>>741475019>and a ghost who doesn't play gamesOh hey you've been visited by the spirit of /v/
>>741475019Better or worse than Lords of Waterdeep?
>>741474902Why are board game names so fucking gay?
>>741475296Probably worse but it's by Reiner Knizia so it distills most of the fluff.
>>741474968>Gloom/Frosthaven>actually good gamesoh no no no no
>>741474315what the hell am I looking at, some sliding puzzle game?
>>741475753Shame because LoW is already a hardish sell to my group, that I fucking DM for, just because of the themeing so I doubt I can push "this but that".>>741475831Frost is a worse sequel just because it stole a bunch of stuff from KD that took away from the part of the game that is undeniably great, the dungeon diving. If you just outright dislike that I don't know how to continue an honest conversation anon.
>>741475062bridge is a trick taking game, whoever is the turn player plays a card and everyone else must play a card of the same suit if they can, highest card takes the trickthe nonsense plays take place in the bidding phase, where each player bets on how many tricks they and the partner sitting accross from them will win, IF the bid suit is the Trump suit (basically if you have no lead suit, this wins the trick). Managing to hit the goal and not overshoot gives bonus points. So the entire first half of the bid process is a set of coded messages about your hand and what suit you'd like to have trump for the round because you have a lot of that card. Bridge is the worst tricktaker but people play it because it's the oldest. If you want a fresh take on the genre with modern sensibilities try Cat in the Box
>>741475464I'll teach you Treasure Island that is probably the best deduction game ever made with perfect theming and fairly simple but it requires a GM who cares more about keeping a fun flow to the game then just outright winning for themselves so I imagine most people in a random thread on /v/ will fail to get it.
>>741476135I know HOW to play, I dont understand the strategy of it
>>741476135Cockroach Poker or whatever that german ox game also fill the role of Bridge but better.
>>741476225Keep pouring wine and try and fuck your grandmother's friend. That's the strategy.
>>741476257
>>741476316Alright fine keep pouring wine and rob your grandmother and her friend. Bit of a basic bitch strategy but everyone has to start somewhere.
>>741475062Hearts is the thinking's man game anyways.
>>741475910no, closer to Factorio with a side of tetris. What's not pictured is everyone else's factories that get even wackier, and the central board thats half trackers for various resources, and other half a grid of customer demand based on the features that they wanna see in a car. but the specs change based on the research the players do into them, so you have to play this round and three rounds in the future at the same time, it's pretty goodif i could post a PDF i'd post the rulebook but alas, hackers forced hiro to delete the feature
>>741470787There's a lot of board games that will just straight up commission their own mods for TTS. A lot are entirely fine with it because anyone that plays on TTS is generally gonna end up buying something at some pointI'd also say that TTS mods being just a collection of links also makes it a bit looser to go after. It's not like other games where you actually upload the files to the Steam Cloud (although you can). Might make it a bit tougher to actually pin down enough, and by the time they do, another mod goes up. Like how Munchkin got slapped a LOT when Jackson Games was about to put up their own standalone client, but now that their attention waned, it all quickly came back
>>741475019We finished this and we're starting Ricochet Robots.
>>741472157I like going to my LGS. They have a bin of loose miniatures for $2.50 a pop. If you don't mind what you're getting or that you mind need to remove paint, it's a nice treat to buy one.
>>741477431
i have never felt more stupid in my entire life
>>741476225the strategy is tell your partner what your hand is without telling them too much because the opps can hear you (and explicit comms are not allowed by the rules), then use the info to bet as many tricks as you think you'll be able to win and try to win that many so you score the points bonus.
>>741478482Sock Lover with 3.
>>741478482yes, I know how betting works. but look at my picture. He switches to 3 hearts even though his opponents have more and higher trumps
>>7414788360/4
>>741478836maybe he can't do another 2 bet because trump suit order or whatever its called, so he bet in the 3, and hearts because, well idk why. if i was him i'd bet 3 spades beause of my hand or diamonds because of what the partner said. maybe its a bluff meant to scare the opps into thinking he has red cards when his hand is mostly black? maybe it's to force the opps to overbet on the suit they have a handle on, while he wins 3 even though he has no hearts he does have 3 high cards (ace king king)?
anyone got updated Final Girl boardgame
>>741479117Everyone left, including me. The lobby is now closed.
