Undertale is so weird. I liked it because I'm a boomer. It's a fun subversion of the old school JRPGs that I grew up with but it isn't much beyond that. Luckily it isn't that long and doesn't overstay its welcome. I thought that would be the target audience, boomers with nostalgia for Earthbound. Instead it got a fanbase of young people obsessed with things like romance, gender issues and whatnot. Nice of Tobi to skip all that shit.

I played Undertale after being gifted it by a friend. I just felt kind of annoyed the whole way through. I did a pacifist run because I found it novel at first, but by the end I just hated everyone who wasn't Papyrus.
