Why aren't you playing old classics with CRT shaders?
They used to be a meme 10 years ago, but today they look extremely realistic.
>>
>>741476643
fuck off normalfag you will never belong here
>>
>>741476643
>Why aren't you playing old classics with CRT shaders?
because they cannot emulate how a real CRT produces light so you're just stuck with a blurrier image without the benefits of the real technology.
>>
>>741476643
stay normalking you will always belong here
>>
>>741476643
I played this exact game shaded like this on Retro Arch. It was as fun as I remembered playing it as a kid, but every bit as gimmicky and lame too. The cave escape sequence being the one massively more difficult part that you have to memorize, but the game is otherwise straightforward. The final battle is such stupid bullshit too.
>>
snes version is better
>>
>>741476643
The blue / blend filter I understand, but why do CRT cultists insist on warping the edges too? That's retarded.
>>
>>741479074
blur* not blue, herpderp
>>
>>741476748
Of course they can retard.
>>
>>741479074
It's optional. A lot of these shaders are configurable, Retroarch itself comes with a lot of presets.
>>
>>741476748
You have no idea how far CRT autists are willing to go.
Subpixels, pixel bleed, motion blur are all simulated.
>>
>>741479135
no they can't
learn how a CRTs works and how LCDs and OLEDs cannot reproduce the way it works
>>
I still have my tiny CRT that i got in the 90s as a babby yes but its not like playing on that thing is fun
>>
>>741480561
>motion blur
CRTs don't produce motion blur that's a fault with LCDs and OLEDs

There's only one way to emulate now, boy.
>>
>>741480757
They absolutely do. Especially in high contrast situations, a white object on a black background is going to produce a lot of blur because the phosphor takes a while to go from maximum brightness to black.
>>
>>741476643
because I have an actual CRT with the actual consoles hooked up to it. only thing I'm really missing that I care for is a modded PS1, been using my PS3 to emulate PS1 on it for now.

What's the current go to shader for 4k hdr displays that works for multiple resolutions 2d 3d games?
I used to use consumer and royal

Nowadays, you can even recreate flicker with a 120 Hz display with black frame insertion.

Because I just play on a CRT instead.
>>
>>741485213
Based, I would use my CRT monitor more if it was 21" but I only have 17" tube. Small screens suck.
>>
>>741476643
Because most CRT shaders look like dogshit. They use way too much bloom and other crap making it look like I'm playing on a severely neglected machine.
>>
>>741476643
Sega version is fucking terrible
Go play the snes version
>>
>>741476643
Link me the best most realistic autistic one then.
>>
>>741485494
This is correct for like 99% of games on both systems.
>>
>>741485458
I got lucky and managed to pick up an LaCie Electron Blue IV that was only an hour drive away from me. Godspeed on your search anon
>>
>>741476643
>use shaders
>don't fix the line shadowing that megadrive used to to look like a transparency on a crt
are you retarded OP? that's the whole point of shaders, to imitate the effects devs used, and your image clearly show you didn't configured the emulator correctly.
>>
>>741485494
snes and megadrive versions of Aladdin are different games, both are great.
>>
>>741485494
I don't have nostalgia for the SNES game. Although it's true the colors on the Sega version suck, same with the Lion King.

Crt shaders are garbage. It's all about the VHS filters.
>>
where's the physically rendered crt shaders
>>
>>741476643
You need at least 480Hz OLED for them to look even slightly accurate:

>>

>>
I feel like I'm in the minority now because I enjoy n64 and gamecube era 3d games with their low-mid poly aesthetic at high resolution. I think the graphical choices they made within the hardware limitations of the era are stylistically sound, and don't need high fidelity textures or models to still look good. like, I'm not going to go back to playing windwaker at 480i
>>
>>741486884
The phosphor decay causes motion blur

Ghosting after a moving image causes blur. So called Motion Blur.

>>

You're a straight up semantic faggot.
>>
>>741490728
You are making an artificial distinction between the two so it fits better with your narrative that CRTs are strictly better and don't have LCD issues.

I just don't know which to use
CRT Royale is the best but I don't like it by default and it probably needs customizing, or using a preset but again I don't know
>>
literally doing that right now
pokemon emerald on retroarch
mega bezel shader pack
>>
These dumb filers don't even do the primary thing they're supposedly made for, the thing they advertise CRTs for.
Look at all those dithered pixels in the original image being used to create shadows.
Aren't those supposed to be smoothed out by a CRT's persistence?
Yet, they look just as dithered in the CRT shader image as they did in the original.
>>
It is so odd to me how everyone wants to go backwards now. That is like selling your new car for a 90s car too lol.

Why does it butthurt you so bad that I don't like pixels of any kind unless its 3d? I'm not going to stop using shaderglass on games like mina the hollower so just cope with it already instead of making this shit circular thread where discourse was never possible.
>>
>>741476643
I aggressively don't care. We're talking about 8-bit/16-bit games. Min/maxing the graphics is basically irrelevant.
>>
Lowering the brightness on my monitor is a quicker and easier way to simulate crappy old tech.
>>
>>741476692
these games were never supposed to look pixelated
