What's the exact moment that a game you were enjoying went to shit? I don't mean like "replaying THAT part" of a game that you still like. I mean you were having a good time playing a game for the first time and then something specific happened in-game and you never want to touch it again, regardless of if you actually beat the game or not.
3D Dot Game Heroes was really cool, and for the most part it was. But when I got the reflect spell, I thought that shit would be useless. Turns out the game ends up forcing you to use that every fourth dungeon room because it has to spam its equivalent of Zelda wizrobes. It's not hard, it's just boring, like the screen shifts, you mash over to the spell, activate it, and put the controller down for 15 seconds. Repeat every three or four minutes in a dungeon.
I know this game is topical right now, but Ocarina of Time. I was enjoying my first couple hours, but once I got to the Forest Temple as Adult Link, I started growing bored. I couldn't tell you why and I can't really say it's rational, I just stopped finding the game fun.
>>741476814That's a weird time considering that's when the game finally starts going anywhere. The child sections are basically a tutorial for this part of the game.
>>741476814The forest temple kinda sucks honestly.
>start game>this seems ok>suddenly rainbow pride shit, tranny flag, black npcs, drag queens, communismjesus christ and entirely without warning
>>741476857Yeah like I said, I wouldn't be able to explain the "why", especially since I could finish Zelda 1, Zelda 2, and Majora's Mask without issue.
What sticks out is Altus Plateau in Elden Ring. At that point I had been really enjoying exploring and fighting, and thinking about the story and the lore. Then I get hit by this massive area that is basically empty, but knowing there were X amount of dungeons I felt forced to explore. I still finished the game and enjoyed the bosses, but I wasn't as immersed or interested.
>>741476913>indie game releases demo>pretty cool game>dev troons out mid-development (literally groomed into doing so)>game now full of trans shit and political shitThis is why I pirate everything before buying. I refuse to financially support mental illnesses unless it involves them getting actual mental help.
DOS2 when you get to Arx(act 3) a lot of bullshit there and if you build somewhat logically you're way too strong.
>>741477002Celeste or something else?
>>741476649I was playing Bravely Default and got the tutorial on Bravely Second or whatever the thing in the cash shop was. I got free 3 charges of it by AFKing, used it to see what it was like and reloaded my game before the battle where I used them, thinking I would be able to use them later. Upon loading it I saw that it actually kept the fact that I used my 3 free ones up across the save game boundary, noped the fuck out of that game. When I tell people I dropped Bravely Default they just assume it was due to the time loop thing but nope, I just clocked the game as predatory garbage long before that and stopped. Also it really fails as an RPG, the damage cap of 9999 is per hit so classes that deal all their damage in one hit are gimped, I was already hitting close to the damage cap on some classes by the time I quit. And wouldn't you know it the cash shop is also how you bypass the 9999 damage limit. Just an embarrassing trainwreck of a game, mechanically speaking.
>>741477142Small Saga
>>741476914>played most of the Zeldas that halfway treat the player like they have a brain firstThat's probably what did it. You might as well go straight to Oracle of Ages and then call it there. Maybe Link to the Past and Awakening if you really want to push it beyond that point.
>>741476649brutal legend went from a pretty good action adventure to a shitty RTS
>>741477143Please, tell me more. I've always been meaning to try BD1, since everyone always jerks off the job system mechanics. I really like FF5, FFT, and even FF Dimensions on mobile, so I'm curious what other negative critiques you have about the system, since I already know about the time loop shit aming other spoilers. I still want to play it, but I am curious about any other issues that most people gloss over or aren't aware of mechanically.
>>741477186Damn, that's unfortunate. I know a guy who was mildly interested in that, but that's a hard nope now.
>>741477002I played overwatch on release for like 8 months and really enjoyed it. Then one day I realized it was a game for losers made by losers and dropped it cold turkey. I was seriously playing like 4 hours a day
Soul Hackers 2 is the last game to do that to me.>Start of the game is fine, nothing ground breaking. Scratches the turn based itch.>Don't ever get to see the demons summoned or equipped ever except for the end of turn spell Ringo does and they're just kinda there.>Have to do an entire dungeon to upgrade your party for 1(one) skill? Weird.>Do an abandoned subway dungeon.>Another series of blue dungeons to upgrade a skill. Finally a party member gets a unique attack skill... and it uses her basic attack animation.>ANOTHER underground subway dungeon. This one longer and more tedious than the last.>Blue upgrade dungeon again. The cutscene in this one showed a memory of one of the girl party members sleeping with what I imagine if the final boss. Think that's kind of interesting but...I just couldn't give a shit anymore about the shitty combat system or dungeon crawling.
>>741476649recently mouse PI. I can't exactly say the moment but probably around the steamboat stage where you just walk around the party boat like some kind of detective simulator. the game is confused at what it wants to be sometimes, while it's best at just being a shooter. and even then it overstays its welcome so even the shooting gets old.
>>741476649>What's the exact moment that a game you were enjoying went to shit?the jeep ride in mgsv.
>>741476649Does MMO updates count? If so, FFXIV Shadowbringers expansion. Everyone was too busy gushing over the story nobody talked about how they killed all the jobs in one fell swoop. They went from everyone having fun and situational spells like a DnD class to just spelling out a rotation for you to follow slavishly and everything was made around a "2-minute meta" to "make it easier for raiders." For raiding, in a game where less than a fifth of all max level players even enter raiding instances. This shit went on now for seven years until the last Fanfest where the devs admitted themselves the 2-minute meta fucking sucked. They are changing it now, but the damage is done and we are never getting something Scholar back again. I get irrationally mad every time thinking off what we lost to this backwards company that made its success of casual players playing dress up and put all their gameplay eggs in one basket trying to cater to poopsockers. Its just so fucking stupid and I better get off before my autism overtakes me.
>>741476649Look, I know people absolutely love Kingdom Hearts 2, but FUCK, when I first played it, my own enjoyment took a huge nosedive the minute you start controlling Sora again.Very few games out there can match the vibe and aesthetic of those first 3 hours.
>>741477501I feel like it was originally designed as gachashit or something.
>>741477630I didn't even enjoy the start of the game but obviously things go to shit as soon as you're forced to play through the awful linear Disney worlds.KH2 is a fucking stain.
>>741476649Expedition 33>muh real worldFuck off
>>741477305I didn't get to the timelooping part so obviously I don't have a list of grievances that spans the whole game and it's also been several years but I'll try to remember what I can.First of all it's very obnoxious with leaving the 3DS on. As mentioned you can get one charge of removing the damage cap per 24 hours your 3DS is on, which means it expects you to leave it on for 72 hours to get the free uses. It also has some incredibly out of place farmville minigame where you once again AFK to build buildings that give you items. They're also really good items, most of my gear upgrades coming from that. I seem to recall a lot of 3DS games having really awkward and forced spotpass integration around this time so there's probably some corporate meddling to try and push the feature. Class wise the problem is your basic attack damage is tied to your class level, so whenever you get a new class and want to try it your damage just gets completely dumpstered. You're stuck in this scenario where you want to use the classes you have high levels in to actually deal damage but you want to keep unlocking class abilities. Stat wise the game seems like a mess, your characters level up but actual levels barely do anything. Characters have some innate stat differences but they're only in the single digits and don't change as the game progresses. All your stats basically come from whatever class you currently have equipped which again makes it really hard to swap classes as you play. The battle system is also rather simplistic once you get down to it, you just guard a few times in a row to build up turns then blow every character's load at the same time. There's a multiplicative combo thing going but again because the damage cap is 9999 you'll start hitting it within the first few hours. Once you realize the sequence that leads to that you just repeat it for every single boss and it will work on most of them with no variance.
>>741476905its very atmospheric and spookyall temples go hard except the water one
>>741477804Water's one of the best in an exploratory sense, like there's a nonzero chance that you'll actually get a bit lost navigating it.
Gran Pulse in FFXIII. Which is hilarious to me because it's when everyone says the game "opens up" and gets good. No. The plot grinds to a complete halt for no real reason. They don't accomplish anything there besides unlocking Hope and Vanille's eidolons and you just go back to Cocoon. Sure, there's optional shit to do, but nearly all of it is designed to be played as the post-game. So you play like 5-10 hours of just running through empty fields fighting the same reskinned monsters just to get back to the main plot which is several more hours of "the city is under attack" beelining it to the final boss. I honestly would have taken more hallway simulator gameplay because FFXIII's pacing and storytelling is at least pretty tight until Gran Pulse. Honestly it's a shit game I would never want to play if it weren't for the FF branding taunting me because I like the rest of the series.>>741476905I rate it the worst temple because it requires the fewest items, has the most generic aesthetic, and the only real gimmick to the dungeon design is the twisty hallways. But I still think it's a really good dungeon against other games.>>741476913For me this is the tranny bartender in Hogwarts Legacy. Just a really offbeat inclusion in the game, and the voice is so jarring.
>>741477143>>741477776The whole Bravely Second thing is wholly optional and basically just there as an 'oh fuck I'm about to wipe let me literally stop time and do something to prevent it' option instead of wiping and just trying the battle over again, if you so choose. Anyone who ever relied, or worse, paid for Bravely Second, is a turbo brainlet.Everything else, yeah, you're not wrong. I kinda lost interest right at the end of chapter 4, where I wanted to do this sidequest to deal with some dragons, but they're all so absurdly stacked to deal with normal strategies that it just put me off the rest of it.>fight fire dragon>let me just equip my party with the few items I have that resist, negate, or absorb fire>dragon uses a skill on turn 1 to make all my party weak to fire regardless of equipment>one-shots everything on turn 2
>>741476649I've complained about it before on here but the game Clash: Artifacts of Chaos has a fixed limited number of health items with no warning that it's the case and no workarounds to get more once you're out. I realized this before I had fully ran out and was able to rush to the final boss and skip a big chunk of the story, but it immediately dropped the game from 8/10 to 5/10 at best
>>741478584Those items only improved your drinks, you dunce, and they still recharge endlessly with water at camps.
>>741476923I really like the atlus plateau from the gold sky to the music. I guess there's not much to see when you're around the big pit you meet goldmask, is that why it felt empty? For me it was getting to Morgott in reforged mod with a faith melee build that had to cast buffs too often for low damage and knowing I had to do the endgame boss rush after
