>Sony originally wanted the PS3 to use 2 Cell CPUs instead, doing all rendering on the Cell>PlayStation 3 is powered by the Cell Broadband Engine, a 3.2 GHz processor co-developed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBMHow impressive was PS3 in 2006?
probably the last true generational leap
>>741478635garbage gpugimmicky cpu that made you bend over backwards to get something slightly better than the 360
>>741478635>How impressive was PS3 in 2006?Really impressive. Even my dad and his buddy who are boomers and don't give a fuck about games or tech were impressed with the value it brought with the blue ray player and the multi media stuff. I also thought the graphics were insane. Seeing metal gear solid 4 and then playing it to this day still feels next gen. People rip on the 599 meme for some retarded reason when you could get the 20gb model for 499 which yea was expensive but most saw the insane value
what a console >demon souls>mgs4>tlou
>>741479481>People rip on the 599 meme for some retarded reason when you could get the 20gb model for 499 which yea was expensive but most saw the insane valueIn context, it was actually insanely cheap>Literally no Bluray players at the time under that>No paid online means that after 5 years you matched the Xbox 360 in cost
>>741479530You have zero taste, cattle
>>741478635It would be amazing to have two cells instead of a shitty GPU. Xbox ruined gaming forever
>>741479432you're a retard. everything looks worse on ps3 even gta when the devs worked directly with sony. >>741479481>>741479530kys movie sloppers
>>741478635pretty impressive if you did anything other than just play games. if you bought it for games, you paid more upfront, and ps3 versions of multiplats were often worse because of their architecture nobody knew what to do with.
>>741479530If you unironically think the ps3 had no games then you just don't have any real knowledge about gaming. The fact you only listed the most normie slop titles kinda proves that.
>>741480934PS3 has no games.
>>741481139Not for normies like you
>>741481158There were no hardcore games for real gamers in the 7th gen.
>>741478635The PS3 always planned to have a custom gpu called the RS fabbed by Toshiba. The second chip was never a second cell it was the RS. When they gave up on the RS and went nvidia they called the replacement silicon RSX.
>>741478635It would have sucked. GPUs are much better for 3D rendering compared to CPUsThere is a reason we moved to 3D acceleration cards on PC.
>>741480934the ps3 had gamesbut the ps3 has no game
>>741480836>you're a retard. everything looks worse on ps3 even gta when the devs worked directly with sony. That doesn't change the fact that the PS3 had a stronger CPU than the 360. You are tech illiterate.
This gen was so god awful and aged even worse than 5th gen.Every game had no AA, 720p, a shitload of post processing, could barely maintain 30fps and most games targetting 60 would dip to 40.There was very little anisotropy and long load times across the board. Its funny how the ps2 was also a piece of shit hardware wise and yet the games looked and aged better on it than the triple.
>>741482101So wrong.
>>741478635Basically unfathomable.
>>741482101As opposed to the PS2 era where every game had no AA, 480i, a shitload of post processing, could barely maintain 24fps and most games targetting 60 would dip to 40
>>741480934compared to the PS2 it's library sucked, compared to the PS4 it's library was amazing. I'm not comparing it to the PS5 lmao
The Last of Us, Heavy Rain and Killzone 2 proves it was pretty good. But everything else on it was pretty bad. And coming with wifi and bluetooth means it can't be used in prisons.I don't like GPUs personally. I think they combined with high resolution cause downgrades. And make everything look the same.It would be nice for PCs to have stupidly expensive CPUS or GPGPUS that could do anything they are told to. Then however people make games could be how they stayed, maybe, if that is the issue. Maybe it's just "optimisation" assholes trying to make what was already good look better or perform better. Or reducing evertyhign so the system doesn't dtruggle especially under load. Some excuse. And invalid. Games go from looking amazing to nothing special at all.PCs amazing CPU. Consoles hardware that does what the PCs were tasked with. Wait a generation to play an undowngraded game maybe.I don't like the ideo of artists having to conform to hardware. They should be doing the best they can. With networked hardware limitations should cease, then pay for what is required to play something. Again that would be bad for prisons though unless they were convinced they couldn't be hacked. Prisons should not exist, but it's not a world where should has much sway anymore.
>>741478635The real impressive console was the xbox 360t. Zoomer who recently studied this period and the tech. Why the fuck was Sony actually convinced we would go back to drawing graphics via cpu? >>741482383That isnt really applicable, they werent running games. Its inherently a different workflow.
>>741487354Because people have their own ideas of how things should be done. The gpu look looks bad.
>>741480934Ps3 has tons of multiplatform games for cheap and other shit like infamous but that's not good enough for /v/
>>741487439In addition to this: Prioritization of EVERYTHING is important. Whatever needs it the most, whatever needs to be done the best should be.
>>741483134>compared to the PS4 it's library was amazingNo
>>741487354The 360 didn't even have hdmi. It was added because of Sony.
>>741478635>Cell CPUsI remember this shit being sold as being able to somehow pool compute power across multiple theoretical devices in your house, sounds real retarded in hindsight since SLI isn't even viable due to bandwidth constraints despite the GPUs being right next to each other
>>741488429The CELL had a excellent Folding@Home implementation that proved it can crunch math at rates unheard off in that price range.
>>741479530Is.. is that it? Bros?
>>741488489Consumers don't have any use for this supercomputer like parrelised compute though so it's a stupid selling point
