Civilization VI like it, it's a comfy game. My safe zone game, even
MONEH
I'm trying the vox populi mod atm, it's pretty fun
>>741479713
which civ game is unironically the best now
fuck it i've never done a full game im gonna nut up and do it this time give me a civ to play
>>741479713>My safe zone gamemine is Civ VI, but V is also very good. better in a lot of ways, even, I just like the feel of VI.
>>741479878Depends on what you want. IV, V or VI. Some people even think III. But 95% will answer IV, V or VI.
>>741479894Same here. I theoretically SHOULD prefer V since I like going tall but I actually like the busywork and the fact that almost every turn has some decently sizable choices to make in VI
>>741479878All have their strengths. Personally I like 4 the most.
>>741479713I got bored of it when i realized how strong söyence is I know just like real life. Advancing in tech makes you rule the world. So because of that by far Babylon or Mesopotamia i dont remember is the best Civ. Like stupidly strong. and Korea.
>>741479713Its great, need a minor rebalance/fix on a couple things but otherwise the perfect 4x game.
>>7414798784 and by far
>>7414798785 is overall the 'best' in a general sense, but lot of people like 6 cuz its just got lots of shit in it. 6's weakness is also its just got lots of shit in it, so many random systems, mechanics and currencies/resources that dont really synergise but attracts autists.
>>7414806655 is solved
>>741480665>attracts autistsbut i think 6 is great
>>741479713Once Rhye's and Fall for Civ 5 comes out, you bet your fucking ass I'll play the shit out of Civ 5
>>741480612Actually money rules the world which makes the Venetian Jew the best leader there is
>>741480778its a combination of money and techvince sucks except if ur doing the 1 city challenge there its the best
>>741480742Its pretty good, but it suffers heavily from>start teching up>takes forever because builders only last 2 uses and you have to constantly rebuild them>need floop-de-doo points>need to expand 5 more cities and specialise them into farming derpy derp coins to get floop-de-doo points>start building shit in the ultra minmax formation to place all my districts counting tiles autistically to make sure I'm not wasting any bonus>this makes everyone's turn take 5min instead of 30sec by the way>start getting faith>now I get to spent twice as much on my turns micromanaging not just an actual war but a holy war with units as well>my floop-de-doos are capped, so now I have to use those to create a doink zone >this makes the attractiveness go up so my population get Ultra GigaChad mode mog status and this shit continues endlessly until someone gets fed up and just steamrolls the whole map with the military they've been building instead of fucking around with that other shit. Civ6's main problem is it punishes you by completely wasting your time if you do anything other than just invade everyone constantly. The grievances help this along by just making all the AI blindly declare war on you for no real reason other than they hate you. The main thing that is cool about it though is the districts, the policy cards and the random game modes like zombie mode, secret societies, climate change and other shit. In contract, 5 basically forces everyone into Science Victory or killing other people until you get a Science Victory and only the top half of the tech tree and 1/3rd of the policy trees are viable. So really they both have issues but if I had to pick one to play forever it'd be lightly-modded 5.
>>7414798784 is the best single player Civ game because doomstack warfare does not make the AI shit itself like 1-Unit-Per-Tile warfare of Civ 5 onwards does.
>>741479713V is comfy and great for multiplayer, if it weren't so unstablemap is satisfying in a tactile sense, resources matter because happiness is such a delicate balancing act on every diffculty except babbies tons of civs, without 6's eye sore district tetris minigame reducing the map to a weird minigame Honestly though, III and IV are goated for different reasonsIII had climate change and IV had amazing mods and better combat than shitty spearman vs tank cornball rng I know nothing of VII except that the suits fell for the corniest gimmick in 4x, and suffer to this very day for it
>>741479881Morocco
>>741479713i try to play with my friend (with mods) and it just breaks after around 100 turns. very sad.
>>741479713I've played this game for almost a thousand hours and I still have no fucking idea what I'm doing half the time. >>741481028Attila is pretty fun.>>741480969I've wanted to get into IV for a while but I every time I get close to booting it up I realize I'm too lazy to learn how to play and just go back to playing V.
>>741480965>>start building shit in the ultra minmax formation to place all my districts counting tiles autistically to make sure I'm not wasting any bonusI mean, I enjoy that part, but tbf unlike other anon I AM autistic, I get why other people don't like it as much. imo VI is best when played somewhat casually as just a little empire builder. the individual civs have a lot of flavour with unique districts and improvements, the districts and wonders make your cities look sprawling. it's chill just to build up a nice looking empire and not worry too much about win conditions. or it can also be fun to really lean into playing around different civ's bonuses. again they did a really good job making every civ unique, and you can ignore a lot of those mechanics and just bumrush military or whatever, but it's more fun if you actually try to play around the bonuses.I only play it singleplayer though, I can see that it probably isn't great in multiplayer. my only real gripe is that the enemy AI is complete ass, so if you can overcome the initial headstart they get you will pretty much have no challenge for the rest of the game. but that's true for most civ games I guess.
I hate 6 just because of the quotes.
>>741479795what does it do?
is lekmod good?
>>741481975Are they better in VII?
>>741482197In multiplayer yesIn singleplayer I have to rec vox populii, the AI improvements are just way too fun, even though the actual gameplay changes are shit compared to lekmod
>>741482114its just kinda like an extra DLC, it adds new mechanics and rebalances everything, the AI is also way better
>>741480612yelyah
>>7414797136 is objectively a better game tho. So much more complex and refined.
>>7414798784 = 5 > 6
>>741487093Objectively yeah but on the other hand it's got too much shit going on sometimes for a comfy game
>>741481975Main thing that annoys me about VI is teammates dont share the science/policy tree like in VA good part of the fun is strategizing which tech you should both go next when doing a 2v2.
>>741479878That depends, which one has the best mods?
>>741479878Civ 5 with Vox Populi, by far the best AI of any strategy game
>>741479713I wish fighting didn't take ages in civ 5
>>741482263I see, I liked the changes in lekmod but the AI is still frustratingly boring to make it fun even with the mod. I'll give populi a try
civ multiplayer always seemed like it would be fun
>>741487093I've been playing a lot of 5 lately, but its starting to get a little samey - is 6 different enough to make the civ formula fresh?
>>741489342Just make sure you play on a lower difficulty than normal, if you play on Emperor in vanilla for example you should lower the difficulty to Prince, the AI on standard difficulty also basically gets no bonuses
>>741487093Civ 6 has complexity but not depth since the AI is even worse than Civ 5 vanilla, Civ 7 AI is probably even worse
>>741489561Yeah I would have done that anyways, the only reason you have to play on higher difficulties in vanilla is because of the AI being braindead so it just made sense
>>741479713The AI is dumb as hell tho, you snowball pretty quickly
>>7414798785 is the best comfier than 4
>>741479878Alpha Centauri is great, the atmosphere and characters make it so unique. Regarding the main franchise, everyone seems to have a different favorite
>>741489740Yeah Vox Populi AI plays to win and that makes a massive difference, it still has flavors but it strategizes like a real player, even the most peaceful and loyal civs will betray and declare war on their allies if that is the only way they can possibly stop them from winning.
Is there a decent 4x, that's NOT civ or from paradox?
I'd love to play 6 with good AI, but it will never happen. On the other hand I didn't like how 5 punished you for expansion.4, to be perfectly honest, always discourages me with how it looks, sorry for being a mental zoom-zoomWhich game/mod combination would be the best? I want to be able to spread if I want to and have competent AI opponents without cheating bonuses to everything.
>>741490249endless legend
>Raging barbarians mode on>Roll Askia>Profit
Civ V is shit. So much crap in it is just really confusingly bad game design. Not to mention AI doesn't even know how to play the game and the 1 unit per tile bullshit cripples it heavily. 4 or modded Civ 3 is the superior experience>B-BUT MUH DOOMSTACKS!!!Gee, I wonder what armies are IRL. And these complaints just translate to "AI planted a big army at my border and I shat myself because the computer is not allowed to challenge me".
VI > V>>741479878VI
>>741479713Daw baby precious wants his safe space?
>>741479713i like the ultra marathon games that reach thousands of turns
>>741489561>>741489740>>741490047Higher difficulty in VP honestly is more fun than higher difficulty in vanilla because of how it gives the AI bonuses Rather than give the AI ridiculous up front bonuses meaning you have to stick to a checklist to even survive the early game, it gives them scaling bonuses with each era It's actually possible to get early game wonders in VP even on immortal whereas in vanilla early game wonders on higher difficulties are functionally AI only features
>>741490249Endless Legend.Been playing Endless Space 2, and that game has too much shit going on, and sometimes I feel just lost. And it feels very different to Civ's hexagonal map.But Endless Legend is pretty good, and the DLC tend to make it better, overall.
>>741490249Old World >>741490559Just use Vox Populi, doomstacks are shit and always will be
>>741490559>Gee, I wonder what armies are IRLmost of the time, not doomstacks because it's really friggin hard to supply every single unit in an entire country put into a single battle
>>741479713nothing happens, the game
>>7414798786
>>741491382I have not played it in years but yeah, vox populi AI was so damn good, a real challenge without cheating and they reacted rationally, not randomly like in the base game.>>741491397I tried playing endless legend, I loved quite a few things about it except the combat, not the separate combat mode but the movement before that, the fact that there are is no zone of control, the fact that everyone moves like 12 tiles per turn and the fact it is real time means the only actual viable strategy is parking a doomstack in your city and another to explore/conquer, no way to block paths, no way to control zones. I loved being able to skip defense in civ 5 because the terrain benefited me, or having to overcome difficult terrain against the AI.
>>741490990what are they like?
Why haven't you guys moved onto Civ VII yet? Don't you know they're adding Karl Marx?
>>741479878The answer is Civ4The actual answer is Civ6The REAL answer is Civ2The secret based answer is FreeCiv
>>741489561Yeah I tended to play on difficulty 6/7 and I've had to move it down to 4 for VP to feel like I'm on par with the AI, it's kinda nuts. Also Barbarians in this mod are a superthreat jesus christ
>>741490990>201 HappinessHow?
>>741479878IV or V, I've tried playing singleplayer on VI but it's more geared towards multiplayer and mods then anything, the diplomacy system is broken and the AI all across the board is psychopathicly passive aggressive to where it's impossible to be on good standings with them unless you are bowing to the absurd trade deals they throw at you where they want the entire disposal of your nation's resources in exchange for 5 gold. Builders being a disposable unit is interesting on paper, until a war starts and your nations resources are being constantly pillaged and destroyed but you can only build war units that pump out slower and slower because you can't build builders to fix your resources in time. The combat in the game also kind of sucks compared to previous titles because the game rewards combat towards cities over combat between units and will actively punish you for trying to build a veteran army built for combating other units as opposed to cities, and AI'S more often then not will just raze your cities and replace them with their own and get zero warmonger penalties somehow. It makes wars uninteresting and designed to be wrapped up quickly rather then be prolonged engagements that can see a nation be fundamentally altered. Wonders are also four times as hard to build because they are directly tied to how much production is produced via trade routes and can be snagged within three to five turns by other civilizations the second they become available. Rise and Fall has interesting mechanics but ultimately acts as a more extreme difficulty modifier and Gathering Storm just pisses water and ash on your cities forcing you to make more builders.
I have 900+ hours in Civ V but I only play diplomacy, dont like the other victories
>>741479713Two million years ago i bought Civ V on launchIt was the last time i bothered to buy vidya from a physical store ever againI just used the steam key that was in the containeri only logged 50 hours of playtime
Hijacking this thread to ask how endless legends 2 turned out.
