How much worse can the entire gaming industry get at this point?

I'm sure they'll invent new horrific ways to fleece customers. It can always get worse.
I was reading one of the SKG threads about California discussing it, they would make f2p and subscription based games excempt, so I could expect more games going in that direction to avoid adding a "host match" button

tired of remakes? get ready for remaster of those remakes!
>>
fucking wild that they turned toph into a single mom that had a kid from not 1 but 2 different fathers.
>>
>>741482141
I don't think we are even halfway into how shit thing can go.
For how shitty the industry is, we still have
Emulation
Free mods
Indies
Fightcade
We don't pay for 'online'
Stores like gog and steam that can be better but they are not the shitshow we have on consoles
>>
Every game is made with AI, but they're even shittier now and more expensive to buy. Because fuck you, give us money.
The internet continues to get locked down until all ROM sites get blacklisted because they don't check for your government IDs, enforced on an ISP level and VPNs are banned so there's no way around it. Goodbye retro gaming.

This is what is going to happen btw

Just you wait, soon the entire gaming industry will be an AI circlejerk.
AI slop games "played" by AI vtubers to audiences of bots.
>>
>>741482141
So much worse, we have it good now all things considered.

In the future the following will happen

>GabeN will die of old age, Valve goes public and enshittifies with things like paid online, controller restrictions, ads in UI etc
>computer electronics become increasingly unaffordable to the point where the only way most people can afford to play games is either Cloud streaming or if they have Fortnite tier mobile graphics
>Tim Sweeney will achieve his dream of putting all Epic games in one economy and having them share MTX, other companies will follow
>all AAA games will be developed exclusively by contract workers who are fired immediately after dev completion, they will all suck
>indie games will be our only way out but will struggle due to having to get their game on increasingly shitty big platform marketplaces

We've only seen the tip of the iceberg. You've seen how bad mobile games are, they want that to be how ALL games are.

Hyper accelerated entropy is something I was not expecting
>>
>>741483138
Thats so jewish nobody but the most broken redditor shills will even go for it. If everything is shit people will just go back to traditional forms of entertainment like card games or playing outside. You need some kind of carrot-on-a-stick angle or hook to get people initially drawn in.

It's going to die, everyone here is pointing and laughing at the destruction of the western game industry but this is going to happen to japan too. When capcom, nintendo, sequenix, bamco and FROM are struggling with bankruptcy the industry millenials grew up with will be gone and we enter the mobile appstore, fomo slop, AI slop era.

More than half of the major companies who used to support their own e3 showcases are gone
>>
>>741483804
Japanese games industry is already dead, the ones you named at the only survivors from a vast variety of japanese developers that all died.
>>
Something about generative AI in games makes it feel more subversive and malevolently humiliating my childhood worse than even the wokest DEI garbage and I'm not sure why.

In theory you could make good games with AI, but it almost never happens. I don't understand why.
>>
>>741483836
Which is why the industry sucks and if we're lucky we only get 2 major games worth playing per year. We've already reached appstore tidal wave of shit levels where nobody can trawl through all the low quality trash that releases. new high effort indies are going to die out too.
>>
>>741484037
It hasn't even gotten started. Imagine once AI workflows are fine tuned and slop dealers in the third world can pump out a new game every week AND have their bots across reddit/twitter/youtube/4chan spam it. Indie discovery will become impossible. You could make an absolute gem and it will never get sales because it is drowned in an ocean of low quality, lazy shit.
>>
>>741483839
I'm sure we'll see more as time goes on, but as it is, I'm not sure if someone with a vision would want to compromise it by cutting corners with AI. It's more a thing for companies trying to cut costs or idea guys who swear they have a 10 billion dollar idea but give every excuse imaginable to not make it.
I hope at least as a reward for all this shite we'll be able to generate competent and continuity consistent games on the fly eventually, but I'm not convinced that kind of stuff will be reasonably available to consumers whenever that theoretically happens
>>
>>741482141
Just wait for the next state of play

Gaming these days is trying to be like hollywood and hollywood fucking loves and uses AI. Its used everywhere from commercials to generic ads by christian bible camps. Hell that ugly Expedition 33 game used it notably off the top of my head.

You need a true thirst of passion to create great art; AI slop is the exact antithesis of that.
>>

More proof that the losers who always complained about how hard it is to create video games never really had it in them.

>>
>>741482141
Nearly every anon in this thread has already said it but, AI. They'll cut corners til theres nothing left. Youre gonna be playing a game and wonder why it doesnt quite click... the music has no spark to it, the dialogue is stilted and weird, the artwork is generic etc etc
>>
>>741483839
Honestly? Didn't even notice it in E33
>>
>>741483839
Same reason you could make good art with the help of ai but almost no one does, same reason you could do great doujin translations with the help of ai but no one does. Because the people using ai are typically doing it because of laziness or to cut corners/save money if they're a company. The mindset they're going in with guarantees a shit product. Like the doujin example is probably the simplest to demonstrate, you could have an ai do the translation and then go through it, fix up the grammar, double check any weird inconsistencies and shit, and properly typeset it all. But basically no one does that, they just throw the pages into a translator and then post the raw output no matter how shit it is.

Been feeling this way for the better part of 15 years already and you can't blame AI for it
>>
>>741482141
>the entire gaming industry
Huh? It could get much worse, because the industry as a whole is doing fantastic right now. You have to hyper-specify the AAA side of things in order to be all doom and gloom, and frankly you'd deserve your misery if you do.

Are you still stuck in 2019 and don't realize there's a very large AA market making original games instead of just trussed up vertical slices or nostalgia banking clones?
Ah wait, you're clearly a twitter tourist that doesn't actually play games, so the answer is yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

I can't fathom it being worse, but that's more speaking to my lack of imagination than gaming hitting trve rock bottom.
That said, you should already be firmly resolved to playing old games or whatever your niche indie/sim game is at this point; like there's guys who have just been mastering how to play 1 game or 1 genre as their gaming hobbyism for 20 years and I don't see those guys crying about the industry being shit because they aren't dependent on consuming new releases. I consider video games genuinely dead for the present time period, and everyone who acts really pleased with it has looked like an desperate coper for the last decade. Probably the best game I saw release in that time was Metroid Dread and damn that's sad.

We're already living in a world of consumers who have never known an industry that wasn't absolute worthless dogshit, yet they keep engaging with it because they don't know any better. I doubt things will get worse a generation deeper into hell world.
