I think these are the first Nintendo games you could call outright bad.

These kinda releases could've strangled the Pokemon fad in the crib.
>>
>>741484410
Only Hey You Pikachu was bad, and mostly because it was outright defective if you played it as a non-Japanese speaker.
>>
Zoroark

If I had bought Pokemon Snap for $70-$80, I would cry.

Pokemon Stadium makes sense Pokemon bttle in 3D
Pokemon Snap is a neat idea
It's Puzzle de Pon
Hey You Pikachu... Yeah, what were they thinking?
>>
>>741485692
>Pokemon Stadium makes sense Pokemon bttle in 3D

That's not worth whatever they were asking.
>>
>>741484410

I'm fairly sure Nintendo has made bad games way before those
>>
>>741484410
I loved all of these games.
Also you have your own board

>>

Yeah it was, you got a unique periferal that let you play Pokemon Red/Blue on your TV.
For me that was worth it alone, no more fucking batteries.

>>
>>741484410
are you kidding me
Stadium mogs modern mainline Pokemon games to this day in animation and atmosphere departments
>>
snap was a lot of fun tho
>>
>>741486071
>taking pics of the mons(?) dunno if this was executed well
It has a number of fans because it did the thing pretty well. You have a few ways to interact with the environment by baiting Pokemon, playing music or throwing gas balls at them which can trigger evolutions, reveal some hidden Pokemon or new paths. So there's a surprising amount to explore and you can optimise the pictures you took for better scoring.
New Pokemon Snap was actually a really good sequel to the first game too. It delivered on the content and looks great.
>>
>>741485946
The issue was you either got the peripheral or the game would be unplayable.
>>
>he doesn't know Nintendo is currently working on an AI enhanced "hey you pickachu" that uses the switch 2 cemera
>>
Stadium 1 and 2 are fantastic couch multiplayer games. No other game has quite captured turn based vs battles the same way. Pick six rental shitmons each and there's actually a ton of variety and gimmicks you can do. My brother and I play them all the time.
I was hoping Champions would be a modern version of Stadium but it was just soulless online-only comp slop.

>>
>>741487094

>>
>>741486324
That's not true.
You can beat the entire game with rentals, they let you use every single mon excluding Mew/Mewtwo iirc.

I do agree it's mostly beneficial if you want the GB game, but now you don't need a gameboy to play RBY. You just need a secknd cart card for a fiver (which they cost back in the day, it's why I have 2 of each classic game lol).

Point is, I still think it was a great deal when it launched, and you haven't convinced me otherwise.
>>
>>741484410
Pokemon Puzzle League has the strongest CPU opponent in the entire PdP/TA series. The pokemon wallpaper isn't my favorite, but it's a great game.

Pokemon Snap is also excellent. It's a closet rail shooter.

I never was into Pokemon Stadium, but you have to give it credit for having x1000 better animation than any mainline pokemon game to date.

Hey You Pikachu was a tech demo equivalent to Seaman. Is the only game out of this 4 that isn't anything special besides being gimmicky
>>
>>741487343
>secknd cart card
Idk what I did here lol
*Second hand cart
>>
>>741484410
these are way better than any pokemon game they've released in the last decade. like it's not even close, we're talking miles better

by comparison games this like represent a golden age of pokemon games, that's how much worse things have gotten since
>>
>>741484509
is that why it never fucking worked? that makes a lot of sense, i thought the microphone attachment was just broken because i had rented the game. also, in what fucking world were pokemon snap and stadium bad?
>>
>>741484410

Stadium and Snap were both very popular, Hey You Pikachu was a silly little gimmick that predated Seaman by a year, and Puzzle League is a basic puzzle game franchise rebrand as has always been popular to do. You could have picked much better examples than those
>>
>>741484410
Easy money. Stadium is actually good though, so I'm not sure why it's there

>Pokemon Stadium
The game itself was bad, but it sold the dream of plugging your various hardware devices together to make your creatures COME TO LIFE IN 3D.
This shit felt like YuGiOh when the monsters came alive via hologram technology.
>>
>>741484410
idk, i liked it as a kid, mostly the playing mini games with friends part
i also used it to play my gb pokemon games on the tv which was way better
>>
>>741489721
i forgot ff7 had a pvp mode and a 4 player party mode
wait it didn't
and stadium unironically has better real time graphics and animations

still apples and oranges
>>
>Stadium
>Snap
>bad
when I was a kid, I bought these games just so I could see the Pokemon in 3D for the first time
>>
WHY
>>
puzzle league was a cheap cash-grab but panel de pon is generally good so whatever
snap is kino
stadium let you battle in 3D which was enough of a gimmick on its own that they were still making games like it into the Wii era
hey you pikachu was trash, yeah
pokemon's spinoff games have always been better than mainline, even from the earliest days with stuff like snap, pinball or the TCG games on GBC
>>
Real question: is Snap really different from Star Fox? They are basically the same genre.
>>
>>741491389
>Pikachu's foot is the reset button
nice
>>
>>741484410
kill yourself
>>
>>741491658
they aren't even remotely similar outside of both games being rail shooters, and really that barely even applies to starfox depending on the game
>>
>>741484410
The only one of these I played back in the day was Stadium but my wife had both Snap and Puzzle League and has replayed both pretty extensively on the switch. I think that was largely the point of these games, Nintendo realized that the not only had an unprecedented phenomenon on their hands with this franchise but one that appealed to girls as much as boys.
>>
>>741484597
Those are games anon
>>
>>741485915
>Zelda 2 and Mario 2
Those are bad games anon
>>
>>741484410
I thought Pokemon snap was a system selling blockbuster
>>
>>741484557
It unironically has more content than Star Fox 64
>>
>>741492678
this entire thread reeks of some lil zoomzoom that sees all the people shitting on modern pokemon (rightfully so mind you) and thinks they can pull a "sonic was never good" on the era that created the largest marketing franchise in the entire goddamn world
>>
>>741491514
Spinoff games only became better than mainline in gen 8, muh spinoffs being better than mainline was always a contrarian take until then.
>>

>>741484410
This was back in the day when the pokemon brand was so strong that you could slap the brand name on literally anything and it would sell, even blatant nonsensical cash-grabs like these
Nowadays the brand is arguably stronger than ever, to the point where you could sell a nonfunctional and blatantly inferior game, but since it has the brand it still breaks records
>>741492916
This “era” was trying to cash in on it in a lazy fashion, these were the duds
>>741492962
Let’s be real, half the reason we didn’t get much spinoffs in the switch era compared to the previous era’s is cause GF didn’t want to be outshined since they were better. People can’t say the spinoffs are better if they barley even exist
>>
>>741493072
Even so Pokken and New Snap mog every other Pokemon game on the switch except for PLA

>>741484557
You might be too young to remember this, but games like stadium and snap were usually rentals. You could also put the cart in these stations at blockbuster and have them print your photos, which was cool.
>>
>>741484410
>>741484557
>Rented them
>They were fun
Nothing perosnell
>>
>>741487507
Hey You Pikachu assumes you have a 4-year-old voice with either a Japanese or American accent depending on the version. They never released it in Europe because there were way too many accents to consider.
>>
>>741492589
Only Mario 2 (and even then, debatable).
Zelda 2 is genuinely good
>>
>>741495106
>Only Mario 2 (and even then, debatable).
nah it's not debatable, Mario 2 is trash. I don't care if that was the style at the time for sequels, they clearly knew it was shit back then too or else they wouldn't have done the whole doki doki panic thing.
>>
>>741484410
3 of those are perfectly fine
>>
>>741486324

>>

More like Round 1 Elite Four. You'd be surprised how many people don't know there's even a Round 2 in Pokemon Stadium.
>>
>>741492532

>>
Stadium animations gave pokemon so much soul and personalities its not even funny it mogs modern pokeslop games.
Of course OP probably suck some sloptube dick for opinions

These kind of games were the ones you rented from blockbuster but never bought yourself. and they were good, except hey you pikachu that shit was broken.
>>
>>741484410
Graphics were a bigger draw back then especially as console 3d was still newish, considering all the mainline games were on the Gameboy.

Pokémon stadium was the only way to see Pokémon battles the way you imagined they should look
>>
These came out during Pokemania (1999-2001). Anything that had Pokemons on it would sell during that time. Some products felt rushed because they knew the hype would eventually go away.
>>
>>741484410
Stadium was balls to the wall hard. I never managed to beat those fucking tournaments. But it was fun in mp when everyone could import their own real team.

Any tips?
Pic unrelated

>>

>>
>>741496482
You just had to play broken with broken, paralize and confuse everything you can, get lucky crits and probably know how to give experience stats to your pokemon. I didn't fully understood that back then but grinding the elite four and depositing your pokemon on the pc made their stats grow even at level 100. Dodrio tower made this so easy

Pokemon Snap should have had a sequel RIGHT after the first game, why they took so long to do a second game is beyond me, it was the perfect way to showcase Pokemon in their natural environment and they got it right out the gate.

I'm mad they fucked up these releases, they should have made the NSO controller at least compatible with the transfer pack but they pussied out, same with xd lack of support when a usb-gcn controller port exist and you could have connected your original gba games.
Hell even the digital FRLG releases aren't compatible with it.

Stadium 1 and 2 with the transfer pak are excellent games, they're like 3D battle frontiers for the GB Pokemon games with some extras like minigames, GB Tower to play on the big screen (with Doduo/Dodrio Tower for 2x/3x speed) and special Pokemon to transfer to the mainline games as rewards.

I was a huge pokemon fag from from late 98 to 2000 had the following games
Red
Yellow
Pinball
TCG gameboy
Snap
Stadium
Crystal "last pokemon gane I bought"
Stadium 2
Was really into the anime but quit watching around the time the 2nd movie came out quit collecting the cards by the time gen 2 came out. DBZ pretty much replaced pokemon starting in 2000 to early 2003 then I was done with anime.
