With ClassicShell and Never10 installed it’s actually fine
I was using 8.1 until October 2025 and only switched because steam fucked up their downloads for versions before 10

The start screen is such a massive improvement of the retarded shit we had before with flimsy tiny columns spreading out 20 times till you find a thing you want.
With the startscreen you just put the tiles you want, disable or enable live feed of what you want(weather for me) and it also serves as direct search function by just typing into it.
Was fucking awesome but that laptop had some issues with the wifi card I didn't even use that caused like 4 bluescreens over the time I used it.
Switch to my first desktop after using 8.1 and upgrading to 10 on the last day. Best OS I have ever used.
Yes I did use linux distros before as well.

This whole ordeal really showed me that millennial boomers mistake having nostalgia for their formative years OS as being tech savvy when they get a melty from any minimal GUI change.

Windows 8 showed that people still had the guts to just reject a bad operating system.
This is why Microsoft made sure that Windows 10 couldn't easily get skipped even with the OS being just as bad as 8 if not worse.

Plenty of people skipped Vista, so what happened to 8 wasn't unusual at all. I'm sure there were plenty of people who skipped Windows 98 and ME too. I skipped ME, and used 2000 instead.
