I was defending the town from legion during Glanton quest mod and I didn't know that you could build the turrets so I fought them with some NPCs, Russell and Veronica. After the NPCs died and legion got into the city Veronica told me to bury her with a dress so I killed her myself because that was not the moment to be Reddit. Weird how that was like a decade ago or more.

Had that Roberts/breeze body mod so the characters would be naked while undressed and I fucked up installing and made them with a hard on 100% of the time when naked. I was doing a legion playthrough with him as my companion and kept telling him I was going to backstab the legion eventually to keep him with me until before the dam when he said "that's it", gave me all the gear he was carrying including his clothes and left naked with an erection. I don't know why that was so funny.

society will not just abandon the social constructs it built. If today's HR and tech firms are what makes the Vaulttec systems and training/educational/lifestyle programs they would be drinking the Blackrock Koolaid inside insulated bunkers for a hundred years or so.
In fact it sounds like you're expecting society to revert to a social order while bemoaning that they're depicted following a preexisting social order.

Ya I always found the ramshackle walls and huts built from haphazardly layered scrap metal corrugate and plywood to be very immersion breaking. Like I can buy using what you have a lot of lying around, but the idea that several generations have passed and everyone is still constructing makeshift settlements and homes like the bombs just dropped makes no sense. That's just one of the many immersion breaking details, though

The idea we'd be perfectly able to form a modern day, especially current day, civilization after a nuclear apocalypse is laughable. Do you have any idea how much culture would be impacted by being reduced back to the most primitive societies or into bomb shelters for years on end until the radiation dissipated? The next generation would be deficient from a lack of sunlight. Not to mention extreme agoraphobia when time came that the outside was habitable.

She wasn't lying. Domino intentionally programmed the auto-doc he forced her in to sever and alter her vocal cords so she would sound like Vera Keyes. Domino knew Keyes' voice was the key to the Sierra Madre the entire time. Christine needed to heal up from the damage and repair before she could verbally communicate.

>>741504076
It's amazing how Veronica has a bad ending no matter what happens. Anyways,

>I cannot speak for Chris Avellone (who wrote and directed Dead Money), but I believe we were limited by time/scheduling. Veronica was written and recorded for the base New Vegas game with (IIRC) only a few hooks for Dead Money. I think reactions to Dead Money content itself would have required a more comprehensive level of (way) advanced planning, i.e., we would have needed to know exactly what Veronica was reacting to in Dead Money at the time that we recorded her for New Vegas.
>Either that or we would have needed to book Felicia Day for more studio time during the development of Dead Money. That can also be difficult and expensive, especially since voice actors and studio time are generally booked in multiple hour blocks. It’s difficult to justify if the character is only saying two or three new lines.
>It also gets a little messy when trying to decide where to draw the line. I think a lot of people would love to see some resolution between Christine and Veronica, but what about Caesar responding to the events of Honest Hearts? I wrote Joshua Graham and directed Honest Hearts, so I can speak more definitively to that. The limited reactivity Caesar could have about JG/HH wouldn’t really justify the expense of bringing John Doman back into the studio. And of course the new dialogue (minor as it might be) would still need to be tested. Caesar had one of the most complex dialogues in New Vegas, so it’s something we really tried to avoid messing with once the game shipped.
>I know that might seem a little silly, but because recording expenses can be high and recording sessions typically happen late in development, it’s often safer to err on the side of caution.

I wish that there was a romance mod that did the following:

If the Courier romances Arcade (details withheld to not bog down post), sells him into slavery, and Caesar lives, there would be an extra ending slide card where Caesar, in mourning over Arcade's suicide, realizes how important Arcade was to the Courier. In order to manipulate in keeping Caesar's proverbial Augustus around, Caesar posthumously declares Arcade the Son of Minerva, the Goddess of Knowledge. Ironically, Arcade's suicide in the Legion helps encourage the blossoming of reason and learning back in Arizona, inadvertently creating further friction between the Frumentarii and the Legati.

Playing through all fallouts for the first time starting with 1, currently going through New Vegas and it's insane how hard this mogs FO3 even after I modded FO3 to improve the dogshit gameplay (without changing the entire game of course)
From second 1 with intro to the music to the colors, characters, setting, writing, gameplay, everything is a massive step up even while reusing a ton of stuff, it's just actually used well this time.
The reused FO1/2 music is a god sent, the active and faster battle music actually works perfectly as a contrasting tune compared to the boring slop that was FO3 music, the radio as an actual existing thing works much better and actually makes sense in a setting of desert wasteland with tons of wanderers and caravans moving around in the middle of an almost proper civilization trying to rebuild instead of somehow looking like Haiti 200 years after the bombs like FO3.
Locations are properly spread out and designed in a way that makes you either encounter them on the way to do the story shit or placed so you can see interesting landmarks on the way to do said story quests, while settlements with quests also send you out to these locations and are designed to make you want to EXPLORE, meanwhile in FO3 everything looks the exact same (and often is for the interiors) so you might get one or two quests to explore a nearby area and the rest you have to walk at 0.1 miles per hour for 5 minutes to find ANYTHING and it could be as boring and useless as a retarded shack with 1 singular early level weapon surrounded by late game stuff.

It's like playing an actual fallout 3, a proper sequel, doubly so when it's a proper continuation of FO1 and 2 story and characters, while I'll give bethesda some props for the VATS and at least trying to make it a little bit RPG it really puts a spotlight on how utterly incompetent they were with FO3, that game is the definition of slop and I can only imagine how bad FO4 is gonna be.

The main difference I began to notice when playing TTW is that 3 is much more like a giant dungeon crawler with the DC ruins. While New Vegas actually has quests that tie into its unique locations that are more spread out. In Fallout 3 only a handful of quests actually have you navigating the DC ruins and even then there isn't too much traversing. Quests that come to mind is going to the vault HQ for the violin, stealing the declaration of independence, Reileys Rangers, and getting the dish for 3 Dog. Almost all of the main story actually has the player completely avoiding that whole area. Even Underworld is completely underutilized.

No part of Fallout 3 makes any fucking sense if you think about it for even one moment. The time period doesn't really matter.
There's zero infrastructure in DC. It's a complete mystery where anyone even gets their food. There's no farming going on.
Tenpenny Tower shows us that people are still capable of creating and maintaining prewar architecture, which means that everyone else is actively choosing to live in ramshackle huttages made out of scrap metal you'd get tetanus just from touching. Everyone in Megaton is a subhuman that deserves getting nuked by the bomb they were retarded enough to build their little community around
>>

>There's no farming going on.
At least WHAT DO THEY EAT mindbroke Bethesda so hard it made them add farms to Skyrim and Fallout 4
>>
>>741516754
Morrowind and Oblivion have farms in them.
Fallout 3 is the odd one out.
>>
>>741516927
You don't necessarily need farms, like Fallout 3 does have roaming traders in it. It's just that they're all running tiny operations that don't seem capable of keeping Rivet City alive at all
>>
>>741497585
>cuck yourself?

>>
>>741516927
Morrowind is Morrowind, Bethesda changed after it. People also made fun of Oblivion but not to the same scale because there's no way in hell, even when you accept that the game worlds are only approximations of their lore size, that the farms that exist can feed the entirety of Cyrodiil. The whole of City Isle should be full of farmlands and shit. Fallout 3 then took things to a boiling point, when comparatively you look at Skyrim and every capital seems to have like two or three different farms to itself. Whiterun has Battle-Born Farm, Chillfurrow Farm and Loreius Farm, Windhelm has Brandy-Mug Farm, Hlaalu Farm and Hollyfrost Farm, etc.

Also, the mines. Every single mine in Oblivion had bandits, vampires or goblins. Skyrim actually has a mining economy going on, like in Dawnstar or Markarth.

Fallout 3 really is primarily a dungeon crawler. it has really lip-servicey RPG elements, especially in regards to social interactions and quest choice. Combat Skills were just lifted largely from how Deus Ex worked.
Almost every quest in the game involves some level of dungeon crawling or tunnel running through metros. Recently, I was surprised at how even the Oasis quest involved going through a long-ass cave full of Mirelurks
I actually don't understand why there's this level of density of the combat. Fallout 1 and 2 have very little combat outside of random encounters and the handful of dungeons. Fallout 3 just throws you into dungeons constantly. The game needed more people who actually wanted to build an RPG with stories and characters and quests, rather than a stats-based dungeon crawler.

>I actually don't understand why there's this level of density of the combat
Because Bethesda adapted Fallout to *their* style of games. Oblivion with guns. And TES has always been, primarily, since Arena Daggerfall and Battlespire, a dungeon crawler.
>>
>>741519649
I guess, but I don't think they did a very good job. Fallout 3 should have felt more like VTMB if you wanted a more modern FPS version of Fallout 1 and 2.
Dungeons and combat sequences are fine -- even I think New Vegas could have used a bit more, but Bethesda really pulled too hard in that direction and more importantly away from narrative and character driven stories and quests based solely on npc interaction.

It's always crazy when a secondary creator rolls around and completely misses the fucking point.

Quick /co/ example.
In the comics Homelander BARELY has a presence and does not push the plot by himself in any way.
Aside from the ending he's just some dickhead guy who can fly.

In the show he's this compelling le cuuuraaazy character with loreslop and mental health issues and he just neeeds love.

And in the normie viewer perception he's literallly just Evil Superman and it doesn't make sense for him to say the n word.

Except its not. In comics he has less depth because the comic is explicitly not about him.

The story begins, culminates, and ends on Hughie and Butcher. Their relationship, their view of the world, how they've dealt with losing loved ones and the difference in who they are.

If anything, the show just goes for the now cliche road of "sympathetic villain does evil shit because he was le abused 40 years ago."

Which is a fine trope. They just don't deliver on it and it's less imaginative than the comics.

Basically in short the comic'a message is to condemn revenge action hero jerkoff and propose that to win against grimey and evil reality one must instead retain goodness and morality at their core.

Hughie saves the world at the very end not by competence but just by being inherently and unbreakably a good guy.

The superhero critique is literally just a dress setting for that personal story.

This isn't too subtle but my point was that the show-runners genuinely didn't comprehend it and stuck on a volume 1 hook for 5 seasons.

Even if it were in a different Southwest location, that would still be terrible because the Legion dominated the Southwest in its entirety up to California. To be clear, I genuinely cannot understand the spiteful mentality of Bethesda. I am comfortable with them taking the entire east side of the Continental Divide and making dogshit stories with shitty writing and puerile themes. I wouldn't be upset if they stayed in their lane. Intentionally shitting on the West is the kind of hostile behavior I expect from a kid who gets showed up on the playground's basketball court and decides to bring a gun to school the next day. Instead, professionals getting paid exorbitant amounts of money for sitting in a room eating coffee and donuts and using a LLM to do 80% of their jobs for them did that. I'm distraught that the professional world is that petty, and hate how that mentality shows up in all of their writing.

Congratulations. You;ve come to know that Fallout NV blows the fuck out of any Fagthesda entry despite the massive zoomer jeet rage threads calling it a tranny game even though /v/ shat all over Fagout 3 since its inception. A game made in only 18 months using fagthesda broken ass engine and actually being an RPG instead of some retarded watered normalfag power fantasy simulator.

i will never not find it hilarious that old world blues entire point was to say "leave it behind and grow" with the gold, and gamers pretty much unanimously said "yeah cool, but how do i get all the gold anyway?".

says a lot about society

this meme was made by gang weed
>>
>>741535264
Thematically though, the gold makes no sense. Elijah's arc from Helios One through the Sierra Madre reads more about how obsession at the expense of all else causes undue harm to the people one is loved by and responsible for. That could be reflected in the battle for the Hoover Dam. Kimball and Oliver are obsessed with the Dam and are sending conscripts to die in droves for territory they can't hold (just as how Elijah was willing to sacrifice the Mojave Chapter just to get Archimedes). House is obsessed with the Dam and how it can power the Old World technological dream he clings to through rose-tinted memories and snow globes (just as how Elijah wants to unlock the secrets of forgotten technology). Caesar is obsessed with the Dam because of his previous humiliation and needs that victory because the Legion will militarily and culturally stall and splinter if it doesn't continue pushing westward (just as how Elijah wants to get revenge on the NCR for what they did to him, specifically him, at Helios).

I know that Avellone was pressed for time, just as everyone else was, but Dead Money shouldn't have ever been about using the gold to teach the player a lesson about letting go. What should it have been? I'm not sure. I haven't given Dead Money more thought than what I've currently shared because I simply don't like it.

Bethesda has this weird obsession with making every sequel take place after the previous game. They do this with the Elder Scrolls too. Not everything needs to be chronological. Fallout 76 and TESO are the only exceptions but those are MMOs and they need to set them far enough in the past that nothing you do in those games can impact the mainline titles. I wouldn't mind an actual Fallout game taking place only 50 or 80 years after the Great War.

Everything you described here applies to all other DLCs and the base game itself. New Vegas is all about obsession with either the Old World or some kind of past trauma. Caesar wants to take the Dam because he views it as a symbol of the Old World; in conquering it, he conquers the Old World. NCR is obsessed with the Dam for far less spiritual and poetic reasons, more material and secular, but they're obsessed all the same. House is obsessed with his idealized memory of Vegas and what it could be. He wants Vegas to be like his snowglobes, perfect but stagnant, never changing. This is why the Independent ending is the most thematically fitting, as it's the closest you can get to moving the fuck on from the past and the Dam. There's more to this as well; a lot of the game is a dialectic between the Old World and the New World. Look at House's employees, they were all once tribals that adhered to some tradition, and despite the fact that they've been forced to evolve they still cling onto their past. White Gloves are trying to retvrn to cannibalism, Omertas were once the "Slither-Kin," and they're being treacherous little snakes in the present, etc etc. The Kings are obsessed with Elvis, Great Khans are obsessed over Bitter Springs, Powder Gangers are obsessed over the NCR's treatment of them in the prison, Joshua Graham is obsessed with the White Legs and Caesar, the Think Tank's highschool bullies are still living rent free in their heads 200 years later, Ulysses is obsessed with something you did in the past, Elijah is obsessed with the NCR and what happened at Helios, Christine is obsessed with Elijah, the BOS is still obsessed with the Battle of Helios One (and technology in general), I could go on and on. This single, recurring theme appears in nearly every single group in the game and many, many people.

Bear-and-Bull was meant to be the resident Legion simp before he got switched over to a major antagonist role.
>>
>>741539336
Probably because it would have risked making the Legion more sympathetic, which they obviously did not want to do
The Legion as it is in the game is just funny to me. They obviously thought that it needed to have nuance as a joinable faction, but dodged basically every opportunity to show any and instead gave all the nuance to throwaway lines

I mean I get it, though, expecting California liberals to make a sympathetic portrayal of a slave-based society, even one based on the Roman empire instead of the typical bullshit about the America South, is just wishful thinking
>>
>>741539631
New Vegas itself is thematically supposed to be the end of the series. The message is “Fallout is over, its time to move on.”
>>

This is also true. Vegas is the only Fallout game to respond to the "war never changes" line at the end of Lonesome Road. "War never changes, men do, through the roads they walk." It's almost prophetic too because Bethesda continues to parade Fallout's corpse around. They need to let go.
>>

>>741539792
According to Chris Avellone (or was it Sawyer?) everyone at Obsidian was just making content for the NCR and ignoring the Legion and Chris/Josh had to go around telling everyone that the Legion needs shit to do as well. There was going to be a Legion companion, it was Ulysses, but he was cut. Legion also wasn't intended to be so comically misogynistic and larpy but the writers didn't get the memo clearly. This is Sawyer's fault obviously since he was the director and his job was to make sure everyone is on the same page.

>He wants Vegas to be like his snowglobes, perfect but stagnant, never changing
That is precisely the opposite of what he says. Resurrecting Vegas as he knew it is basically just the first step in his plan.

>He wants Vegas to be like his snowglobes, perfect but stagnant, never changing
Maybe Cooke is. The rest of them just want to steal shit and get away with it

>Christine is obsessed with Elijah
She's on a mission to track him down and assassinate him; there's no evidence that it's personal.

> the BOS is still obsessed with the Battle of Helios One
if there's anything they're clinging to, it's the idea of remaining in the Mojave even though it's clear that they're going get gigafucked by doing so

Anyway, events being shaped by the past is just standard storytelling. A character without a fixation is an uninteresting character.

Sawyer said he wanted Legion cities you could travel to show what life was like in Legion territories and how it was different than in an active warzone like the Mojave. Basically, he says the Legion has towns like Novac and Goodsprings that are free to do whatever they please and operate under their own laws, as long as they don't interfere with Legion operations. If the Legion randomly shows up one day and tells them their town is gonna become a fortress and they need to relocate, they expect full obedience without any objection else they get the cross, but will also give them resources and help move them safely if they comply.
>>

>>
>>741540647
Yeah. Maybe they should have used one of the dlc slots to actually expand the vanilla game.
>>
>>741540762
They should have. But considering that Caesar's Legion is the "evil" faction and only like 10% of the playerbase sided with them because of how barebones they are in the base game, it would have never been approved. Also the way the gamebryo engine is set up, it's extremely hard to have DLC resources interact with the base game, mostly due to console limitations, so if they had made a Legion centric DLC, it would not have been able to affect the Legion in the base game in any way.
>>
>>741540673
The fact that there's been no news on Obsidian related to any cuts, even from journos that are very well connected within MS, and that they've been on a hiring spree these past few months and are still hiring right now despite all the hiring freezes (like Id software), leads to me believe they're actually gonna be told to make a new Fallout game while Bethesda sharts out their new procedurally generated action game. Either that or they'll continue shitting out 2-3 games pass slop games a year.

That must've been like pulling teeth considering how protective Toddy boy has been over the idea since FNV. He gives them once chance and never hears the end of it. TES6 won't be out until the late 2040s at best so those Fallout mines will be spun up in response to the purges. Nothing stopped them from picking up Bakersfield and turning that into a side piece.

I don't think Asha gives a shit about Todd's grievances. She needs games and she needs them now, and they do not have the money to buy another studio or outsource the game. There's only 4 options to make a new Fallout right now. Kill FO76, ESO and Starfield and have those Bethesda devs begin a new Fallout, get Arkane to do it, get Inxile to do it, or get Obsidian to do it. They have no other studio in house that has any experience making anything remotely close to Fallout. The first option is retarded because all those 3 games make money and killing a steady source of profit would never happen. Arkane is in danger of shutting down and are supposedly making a Blade game. InXile is all hands on deck with Clockwork revolution, which is set to release late 2027, and they're a pretty small studio. Obsidian is making 4 games right now according to their higher management. Avowed 2, Grounded 2, and 2 unannounced games. I wouldn't be surprised if Asha tells them to cancel all of them, except Grounded 2 which is about to release, and tells them to get all hands on deck on a new Fallout as soon as possible.

It depends how well population can recover and reuse the ruins. But then, if population can recover well and there are many ruins after 200 years then it would mean that many parts are just not inhabited by people at all. Areas we see in the games, where people live, should probably most picked clean of salvage and buildings that people live in maintained.

Probably, I don't have any faith that she'll save xbox and it will probably come crashing down in a few years. But her saying that she wants to de-emphasize game pass, killing studios that make nothing but walking simulators and bring exclusives back make me like her more than Phil already. At the end of the day, she'll operate under a "if you make no profit you're gone" mentality from now on. All the studios that survive the purge will get a single chance to prove their worth, otherwise she's killing them. That is also a positive in my opinion.

You've never played Fallout 2. You just watched a few youtube videos about how there's pop culture references sprinkled here and there and how there's some wacky random encounters in the wasteland and have now convinced yourself it's a goofy wacky games like Bethesda's garbage. The opening cinematic to Fallout 2 is darker than everything in Todd's slop games even come close to achieving. There's rape, ruthless crime lords, torture, addiction, child abuse, and tons of very adult topics in FO2 that are treated completely straight, nothing FO3 and FO4 even attempt to explore in any serious capacity. The first two games are grounded and realistic in the way they examine humanity and the depths of depravity people go to when pushed to the brink. NV is the only game you have an argument for not being as dark, but even if NV leans a bit more into the silly aspects of FO, it's still a much darker and more mature game than any of Todd's slop. Even Old World Blues is much darker than anything in FO3 and 4 once you read past the silly dialogue.

200 years later and everyone is still living in a sheet metal trash pile with skeletons in the diner booth

>>741530637
Yeah, should have just made it its own thing.
Not that New Vegas will get a proper sequel, and not that people should want one, because that sequel wouldn't take your choices and headcanons into account.
Fallout is done, finished.
>>
Reminder that real radiation doesn't work like it does in Fallout games. And dead grey wasteland is not really possible, besides maybe some time post nuclear winter, which is argued to not even be possible.
So yeah, Fallout 3 is very shit. Even 76 made better environments.
>>
>>741538003
I side with House because he offers to share biological immortality tech. Although, you can kind of get that with Think Tank in OWB, but I like to have plan B too.
>>
>>741547706
>Fallout is done, finished.
Wrong. It continues to exist, but as live service, microtransaction-infested Fallout 76. And the funny thing is that Bethesda's development cycles are so glacially slow that it won't even get another mainline game before Microsoft Gaming completely collapses. Bethesda will be lucky to get TES VI out the door before they're sold off or radically restructured. It's a blessing in disguise.

But yes, true Fallout has been dead for years.
>>
>>741547591
>dood.....the opening cinematic!

>>
>>741547706
New Vegas was always meant to be the conclusion to Fallout, Lonesome Road in particular, as divisive and Ulysses is. The phrase "War, War Never Changes", before Bethesda corrupted and twisted it, was always meant to imply that war is at its core, destructive, evil and a failure of humanity, something humans should never be proud of, but ashamed of, and nothing would ever change or justify that fact. But, it also had the message of hope that war was not intrinsically tied to humanity and they could always rise above it and change. The Master in FO1 is so interesting because he understands the first point but rejects the second, thinking that war will always follow humanity so he deems them obsolete. Ulysses words it perfectly at the end of LR, even if it's a bit heavy handed
>"It’s said war, war never changes. If war doesn't change, men must change, and so must their symbols."
That's the message of 1, 2 and NV at their core.
>>
>>741547925
If 3 did it better why can't you name a single example of ways it did it better?
>>
>>741547996
I would have been fine with that. They could make more games, of course, but earlier in timeline, different areas.
But yes, FNV could have been a fitting end for mainline Fallout (1, 2, FN(3)

FO2 literally opens with your crack smoking great grandmother saying that it was revealed to her in a dream that you are the literal prophesied chosen one, and then you have to go to an ancient temple of trials, that just happen to be there in the middle of the wasteland. You can't get a bigger tonal whiplash than that.
>>
>>741548180
I think you need to rewatch the intro of 2. Luckily, youtube is there to help you, which is how you also experienced the rest of the game, so it should be familiar to you.

>>
>>741548468
Fo1 and 2 were never good. They were stepping stones to 3 and 4, that's it. That's their sole cultural worth.
>>
>>741548764
Lol, no.
At least FO1 feels like something coherent, and gaps in story and map design leave some room for imagination.
FO3 is just a jet induced fever dream experience. Not a proper setting. FO4 removed the fever dreamed aspect, added more blandness, settlements and maybe one farm here or there in again dead and grey wasteland and called it a day.
That said, all Fallout games are kind of silly. I wonder if we could ever get a bit more realistic Fallout clone. Not entirely removed from weird sci fi stuff, but still more grounded, with attention to realistic detail
