It's nice to discuss undertale yellow and the things it has inspired once in a while. Its been a few years since it released, and it changed the way a lot of people looked at fan projects. The UTY team never revised the previous areas to make their quality more on par with the rest of the game, we know this because there are very few changes between the final game and the demo that released half a decade prior.

Alright, reviewing where Martlet actually follows you in yellow, I think the real issue is that they tried to avoid having her follow you where you could fight something, maybe because they thought about how she might react, or didn't want to think about how she might react. Now, UT didn't have this issue as much because it had other ways of engaging you with certain characters across the journey (the phone calls with papyrus and undyne do a lot of heavy lifting), but yellow is structured as a pretty straight forward journey all the way through, never thinking to give you reason to return (it has a few easter eggs but doesn't give hangouts and stuff like that, and martlets goal is specifically to help you get home so they didn't consider giving her a "hang out". So by the time you get to the oasis, you're a hop and a skip away from the dunes, and they decide to make way for starlo and then roba. I'm thinking more heavily on what that one anon said about them polishing the steamworks, and it makes sense, because they came up with a way for the roba to engage in your battles, but those are also against junk robots.I'm willing to bet they wanted a segment of clover going through dealing with monsters, but didn't want Martlet to be there complicating it.>>741527227yeah that feels right then. if I can use my credentials as the number one dalv fan in the world I liked what they did for shades of justice but I think it tries a little too hard to make him interact with marty even if it's perfectly understandable as to why, if i could march into the shades of justice corporation office and demand change I would make it so he becomes a recurring character like that one anon suggested and revert the beginning of the post credits scene to vanilla since the vanilla post credits scene is one of Dalv's coolest moments

I have a dead city, the residents of which are either all already dead or left before you arrived, and need to add characters and life into said empty city. I already wanted it to be mostly focused on atmosphere and puzzle solving, so I figured that would be an elegant solution to make the place not end up boring like the dark ruins were. Plus I get to have the mechanic reprise in the very Bioshock inspired chapter later in the story. I don't just add stuff because "oh this is cool" but because I think it would add to the story or solve a problem I've been having.
