Video games will never really be as fun and exciting as they were in the 90s. Not just the video games themselves, but "video games" as a whole.

Remember being excited to see what the next gen consoles could do? We don't even get that anymore
>>
Sorry I'm not a fag who can only associate the idea of enjoying games with my childhood, so I disagree.

I'm excited to see what fun new ideas devs come up with, and I am happy that we have reached a level of technology to accommodate it.

AAA genre is compromised
indies and AA are doing fine
>>
Video games used to be about fun. Now it's about graphics, cutscenes, slop checklists(like mandatory climbing, hacking, chore shit)
>>

What's sad is that nothing new is being made anymore, it's all regurgitated.

The problem isn't women, it's HR. It's just that women are really fucking good at HR.

Did someone really use a romhack as the example of Mario 64?

The primary audience is pic related.
Because they have endless disposable income and free time from not having children.
Plus they don't have hobbies and are lazy cunts.

So what's the easiest, laziest way to pass time when you don't have any hobbies? television and video games.

Holy shit are you from the 90s? Tiktok scrolling is literally the thing killing every single hobby on the planet.

Indies are cashgrabs akin to remakes
AA is nearly extinct

I got a bunch of retro consoles and flash carts. once I get an n64, I'll have every system I give a fuck about. This is how I plan to ride out until video games are good again.

i didn't say anything about women. i am showing the exact opposite actually. 100% white male dev teams are still out there, and i posted a pic of one. you just don't care.

Im downloading electronic gaming monthly magazines and im playing through games a played only on demo disc. Carnage heart was one whose trailer held an appeal for close to 2 decades. Its probably boring and outdated but I will still give it a shot. The meverhood came back after seeing playthroughs of jerma playing hylics.

Funny thing is back then those women were treated like part of the group because they can think like the boys.

why didn't you gatekeep harder, elitist-kun?

But are you not excited for thousands of remakes that your previous gens have played?
You can relive their excitement and nostalgia even though you were born too late for that!

I just booted up DOOM again for the first time in awhile and god damn that game is still so fucking fun holy shit
Time to go on a wad spree again

Things stalled out because nobody bothered with figuring out how to make VR as easy as just sitting and looking at the screen, and fun on the same level as a non-arcade style console games before the rot set in.
Because of this the next big leap forward in potential of what a game could be withered on the vine

While seemingly true today, I disagree conceptually for the future.
All we need is a new technological breakthrough to be used in the video gaming sphere.
Games "back then" were all about pushing the limits one way or the other. Even in the 2000s many dev teams tried to innovate. You know the Kinect and PSMove era, how the major studios still tried to innovate with new ways to play? It all fell apart because the tech itself wasn't really there yet for their futuristic views and all the innovation started to fade away partly because of those failures.
Remember that Kinect virtual life demo with that kid who responds to you? The concept was way ahead of its time. Now with all the advancements in image recognition and LLMs, concepts like that could be viable but the failures and the corporate management over devteams soured the innovation and excitement for both devs and players alike.

I think this is still possible, but that futuristic optimism needs to come back through technological breakthroughs.
