>Can't get Camp Crystal Lake because guy who owns the rights to the first movie wants royalties
That's retarded, why the fuck is every movie all owned separately, same with Ghostface being separated from Scream?

Because copyright laws, made for the express purpose of "promotion of culture," have since before their first draft been instead for the promotion of ill-gained funds and have worsened with every expansion since ten.

If they got the nightmare on elm street license in 2026 itd probably basically be an original killer that wears a knife glove

they don't even have the original Freddy as it is
they have the remake one

They're right though. A proper scream game or Freddie Krueger game would most likely suck and cheapen the brand

Victor Miller, the original screenwriter for Friday the 13th, essentially invented the franchise and conceived all the important characters and locations: Camp Crystal Lake, Jason, and Jason's mother. However, Jason never appears as an adult in Part I, only as a child. Jason doesn't appear as an adult until Part II, and doesn't actually put on a hockey mask until Part III. For copyright purposes, these are all different works containing different sets of ideas.

Sean Cunningham, the film's producer, sold the distribution rights for the film to Paramount, which turned it into a franchise. Cunningham and Paramount got rich, but Miller didn't get any money out of the deal, so he exercised a clause in copyright law that allows authors to reclaim rights to their work 35 years after they are initially sold. Now Miller wants a paycheck before he'll allow any new Friday the 13th projects to move forward; this is why the existing Friday the 13th game had its servers shut down.

Stephen King has actually said that he'd like to write a Friday the 13th novel from Jason's perspective called "I, Jason," but doesn't think that he'll ever get the chance because the rights situation would have to be sorted out first.

Except Jason.

>Yet another licensed killer with a teleport and projectile
This nigga is literally a reskinned Springtrap, who was a reskinned Xenomorph, who was probably reskinned off someone else.

Tldr; Victor Miller agreed to a deal, regretted it later, and tangled the franchise in lawsuits for 15 years out of spite.

What powers you would have given him? Jason is kinda a basic slasher with the abilities he had in the movies being extremely strong, extremely durable and being able to "teleport". Being strong and durable doesn't translate to DBD
