The only caveat is that if you've never played before, the game's tutorial dumps you in dragonflight content, so you'd be missing out on massive chunks of plot and lore. But if you don't mind going back and doing old quests while max level and care about the story, it's not a big deal. Once you hit 90, you'll be able to gear up stupidly fast without needing to be a tryhard sweatlord who joins a guild to raid 12 hours a week to gear up. You can just hit 90, get a full set of champ gear from a lootbox vendor, then immediately upgrade to heroic by doing world quests, and join easy M+s to start gearing properly. They're throwing mythic gear at people now, too, so you can actually raid if you want to without needing to spend like a month trying to gear. It's more like a week, at worst.

I would never recommend a new player start WoW at this point. It is bogged down 20 years of content piled on top of each other to the point that it is impenetrable. If you want to play WoW, play Classic (or TBC) and just level to 60 at your own pace and enjoy the world. If it sucks you in, then learn the game and keep playing.

I played some Midnight and liked some of the content, but I ended up getting bored at the final boss of the first raid tier. It wasn't bad on Normal, but on Heroic it required a competent raid group and those don't really exist outside of hardcore guilds.
